Ok everyone, it's a little long...hope you enjoy!
In a galaxy far, far away...I was watching TV one night, very sad that LOST was on hiatus & was really the only show I ever watched...I was so tired of all the reality shows & to my great surprise, really enjoyed the first episode of Rockstar:INXS. I thought "wow! these people are all really good!" so the story goes...a few weeks later after I saw Marty sing "Take Me Out" it was all over. I HAD to go see this show taping! Gosh I only lived an hour away in OC! My first week was seeing him perform "With Arms Wide Open" - WOW. I had dragged my friend along with me...we ended up getting VIP on our tickets & were right to the right of the catwalk. Everyone was phenomenal - this was the week Jordis sang "Man Who Sold the World" so you can only imagine.
Well, I was hooked. I had to go every week, at the risk of getting way too far behind at work, whatever it took. I then got a special e-vite to attend a taping of a live concert, with the last 6 rockers - which, I'm still waiting for CBS/MB to release! They all sang 2 songs, & they sang their most downloaded songs. I was right in front of where the rockers sat...just feet away from Marty! The producers were giving their commentary inbetween, & told everyone they'd do it until the songs sounded great - well needless to say, everyone's performances were pretty much flawless. When Marty sang Lithium...it was SO unbelievable. This was just for a recording, not video. Marty commented that even if he did not get it exactly right, he wasn't going to do it again because Kurt Cobain would not have done a second take! So I'm standing there, feet away from Marty...& I told my friends (new ones that I dragged along) that I had to get their (the rockers) autographs! So...Marty was first. I shook his hand & I think that was my first experience of djfiertenfhfoarh snkjdfeot - LOL! Can't remember much of what I said, other than he was amazing, loved his style, his grace, and of course kdfjerisjfknfvkladfvaivkdfn. His hands were SOOO soft! So everyone at some point signed my paper - except, ironically, J.D. - J.D. was off backstage doing his own rehearsing. That's all I'll say on that
Well after that taping...no one could or would go with me! I'm like "what do you MEAN you have to WORK??" Thank God for a flexible business! So...my next time was for the next elimination show, I went by myself. I actually no longer had the 'wait in the long line tickets', I had a guaranteed in, yet I was by myself with no one to share it with! That's when I met Suzi - who is now one of my dearest friends! I told her come with me on my tickets! And we had the best time.
The following week...Suzi & I brought another friend with us, Patty...and this time we made it to the FRONT of the catwalk! Unfortunately for my tv debut, I'm JUST cut out of just about every shot on us...but Suzi is in the entire show! (see the pix with Suzi from RS:INXS site...she has the cute short blonde haircut!) Patty is in the show dancing away, too...she has the beret on. We tivoed it many times...
So after that...I was going by myself. I got to see Marty see his Aunt in the audience, when he joined Mig for his encore of Baby I Love Your Way...I got to see "Acoustic? Or eeeelectric??" (for Trees), I got to see the encore for WYWH - that was incredible, standing where I could actually touch his feet if I tried!...I probably need to go back & watch all the shows so I can really remember all of this, it's been awhile now! I can't remember which week it was, but one time during INXS' deliberation, Marty answered questions. He was unbelievable...answering questions from the audience, like "boxers or briefs?" (neither he said) or "besides INXS who would you front?" (Velvet Revolver) or "are you single?" (yes!) or "are you into older women?" (yes, older women are my thing!)...and more. It was just so great to hear him talk! He's just so genuine. I was even standing once by an old friend of his from IL...she said he was even more genuine in person than what we all saw on TV. We were standing by where the rockers sit & when he spotted her, he totally recognized her & went to talk to her. Unfortunately again, the rules didn't really allow much interaction with the audience. BUT here's where my determination set in!! I created my first Marty shirt - bought the bedazzler & everything. I was standing next to where the rockers sit NO MATTER WHAT. No one was going to get in my space & no one was going to stand closer the edge (well in my little spot) than I was - and they tried! Anyway, it was awesome. He spotted my shirt...& said "that's the coolest thing ever!" & smiled. I asked him if he would sign it...& he said yes...but they wouldn't let him. After a few more breaks...Marty ended up RIGHT NEXT to me - WOW. Sooo amazing...well when they were going backstage for the last time, he told me to come over so he could sign my shirt! (Yes, I was dying inside)...and the stagehand said NO!!! Well guess what, Marty wouldn't take no for an answer...he said "I'm SIGNing her shirt, look at it!" So we begged the girl & he had me come backstage! That's where I about died...but I kept it cool, have no idea what I said (funny how that happens to us all!) & he signed it...basically, I was bent over in front of him see below! I was just ecstatic!
Then came the finale...there were no tickets being given out for this one - insiders only I guess. But I was so excited for my experience. Then...I just happened to be at my desk when the beautiful email came through - I could request tickets! I think because I had been so many times, who knows, but whatever divine intervention came through, I'm forever grateful...because at the moment the email came through, I am NOT normally at my desk. I also tried to get more a little bit later & they were all taken - so, it was meant to be!
I had 8 tickets...and guess what, no one could go. UNbelievable. Well..at the last minute, friends of friends ended up being able to come - Tina, Lany, & Julie...AND we got to the front of the catwalk VIP again!! OMG it was unbelievable. I had my new Marty shirt on - the one I wore to the METRO - & was RIGHT there to see Marty perform to the end. He was SO graceful - even more in person - and peaceful with the decision. When INXS asked him & the LH to tour with them, he was just so happy - the best of both worlds! When he sang, he sang right to his family up in the balcony...so so cool. After J.D. was crowned, INXS actually played a mini-concert of 6 or 7 songs, & all the former rockers were there & inbetween takes, answered questions on "where are they now?". At the very end I ran up to Marty to see if he could sign my shirt again, and again they wouldn't let him. But he kind of gave me that "so sorry!" look & said it was the coolest thing ever & thank you again. And then he was whisked away...& my withdrawals began. See the Metro recap in Tour Talk...
