They are going up against the Decemberists today. Voting hasn't started yet. Give them about 5 minutes Did she ever announce who won?? I kept listening for awhile after the voting stopped but must have missed it. Maybe she never announced it and I didn't miss it. I listened for another 3 hours and didn't hear it. I thought I just got busy with a student. Maybe not though.

Today at work while googling I found another site with HM...has a little piggy on it...can't remember the site now...do you know what I speak of? Also, I've been thinking. I noticed on the front page for the MTV Soundtrack that it has a list of the most played songs...so I'm thinking we need to add playing the songs on HM's page to our attack plan.

What a night for HM! The show was fabulous!!! The guys returned home after two shows on the road for their CD Release Party. Though they kept telling me how tired they were, you never would have known by their delivery. They were on fire! The show started out with 3 opening acts - The Moves, The Glide, and The Melismatics. I enjoyed all of the openers, but I was anxious to get to the main event. Kevin Manno from Q101 introduced HM and got the party started. The guys played a total of 12 songs, including Happy Birthday for Matt's dad, who's birthday was Sunday. I got a copy of the set list, but they played an additional song - Unrequited Love, and I'm not sure where it fit into the list. I know he played it though because he made mention of there only being one girl there tonight that he was stalking. LOL Here's what they have on the set list: Let It Go Love in an Information Age Standing Eight Count Cancerous Anchors Away I'm Not Well Do You No One Around Stuck in a Box I think they actually reversed Do You and No One Around. Because Matt made mention of playing two songs about being crazy in a row. Either that or he played Unrequited Love after No One Around. I'm not positive. He mentioned that No One Around was for his brother. During the evening they mentioned that this album would not have been possible without their investment group and Garett Hammond and Larry Schroeder. Garett did all of the production for this album and was their original drummer. Larry was their original guitarist and is featured on the album. I had secretly been hoping they would pull Larry up for a guest spot, but they didn't. The guys got their first encore and played Glad You're Gone. Matt talked about how it was an Obama victory party, too, and that this was appropriate since Bush is leaving. He had some choice words about Bush, but I don't want to try to quote. I know I won't get it right. After the show, Matt sold merch at the booth while the guys broke down the equipment. Then they met a bunch of people next store at the bar for drinks to celebrate.

Rachel, thanks for a great review and pictures (you really got the relaxed feel of that night captured ) It was a big achievement to have finally put together such a brilliant album! I was totally submerged into their music, what a great way to celebrate!

I hope Matty comes by and sees all of his bday wishes! It made me smile, I'm sure it would him, too.
Thought I'd post the review from Cicero's, the night before the CD release and some pics, too.
This was Holding Mercury's second visit to Cicero's in St. Louis. It's kind of becoming their home away from home. I love this since I'm so close! They are continuing to grow their crowd here. HM played the third slot. The first two bands, Set 11 and Troy, were pretty good. There were a lot of teens there supporting them, and they stuck around for HM's set. HM had just come in from Iowa were they were supposed to play at The Industry. That show was double booked unfortunately so the guys had a night out. They mentioned how they had a few too many and were feeling it. You never would have known it though as they took the stage. It was a high energy performance! They were all over the stage, interacting with each other. I have never seen Matt move around as much as he did. He was jumping off the drum kit, doing back bends, kneeling on the floor, right up at the front of the stage - just all over the place. It kept the crowd really pumped. He also called for a lot of crowd interaction bellowing out chants for us to repeat and getting the clapping started during certain parts of songs. Ashok also seemed the most comfortable I've ever seen him. He also was all over the stage and making faces. Jason was on fire. His back and forth during Unrequited Love was so powerful. Andy didn't disappoint. He was swing that bass everywhere as he played. He's so rock and roll. They all took turns during the breaks between songs talking to and energizing the crowd. And though they mentioned a minor scuttle between Matt and Andy at the bar the night before, there was never a tense moment on stage. Whatever differences they had, they seemed to laugh them off and leave them at the door. For claiming to be tired and hungover, this was definitely one of the best performances I have ever seen from them. The sound was spot on. The sound guy actually worked the lights this time. The whole show just really came together phenomenally. Here's the set list: Let It Go Love in the Information Age Standing Eight Count Cancerous Do You (the first time they played it!!! This is my favorite!!! Matt says it's his, too. ) I'm Not Well No One Around Unrequited Love Stuck in a Box (the crowd went wild for this one. Even kids who've never had a job seemed to relate, but on a different level. They were talking about their parents rules and such.) After the show, we all stuck around and watched the last band, BAMF!. They were a ska band and a really different feel than the rest of the bands that played. It was a good thing they were set to play last. Matt seemed stuck behind the merch booth forever. I think they sold a ton of stuff. When the show was over, the guys were tired and wanted to take it easy for the big CD Release Party. We chatted a little longer. The guys from Troy really seemed to like the HM guys as they chatted it up, too, comparing gear and equipment. It was fun to hear the shop talk. We went back to the hotel and got our rest for the second day of our roadtrip.
