Whew - that's a hot one, juliana! I'll need to find a recording of that. It sounds somewhat familiar.
I'm not picky. If he chose just to do that in spoken word form I'd take that, too.
ETA - I was able to find the song. And the original is pretty much spoken word more than singing.

Found the song and Yep, that would be a good one that Marty could make his own, which he does so well with all others.

Ever since I first saw and heard him last summer, it's hard for me to listen to anyone else... I'm always thinking... Oh, this song is good, but Marty would make it SO MUCH BETTER.

Leonard Cohen is first and foremost a poet, so almost all of his songs are closer to spoken word than singing. He won a Juno (our version of the Grammys) for best male vocalist a few years back and his acceptance speech was hilarious. He said, "Only in Canada could I win an award as a VOCALIST." His vocal range covers at best about half an octave so he's not what most people would consider a "singer," but I have all of his albums -- he's one of my favourites. I love the deep, sexy lyrics and the growl of his voice -- I want to hear Marty growl some of those lyrics.

I want to hear Marty growl some of those lyrics. Okay - picking myself off the floor now - I can't disagree with that request!! (Lovin' Leonard Cohen's self-depreciating humor, too) I think another member already posted this one, but everytime Sex and Candy by Marcy Playground comes on the radio I always imagine it with Marty's voice b/c it is always has some quiet, whispering lyrics.

Not sure if this one has been mentioned yet, but a few of us hammerheads were together last night and decided we'd LOVE to hear Marty sing Pearl Jam's "Black".

Hmm... I would really like to hear Marty sing Elton John's "Tiny Dancer".
A bit odd, I know, but I'd love to hear what he'd do with the vocals (sing it straight or make it more 'alternative'?).

The Pretender
"I wanna know what became of the changes we waited for love to bring Were they only the fitful dreams of some greater awakening? I've been aware of the time rolling by. They say in the end it's the wink of an eye.."

I've not read all through this thread, but I think Marty could sing any song, but I'd like to hear him sing "With or Without you" by U2.
