Then there is the fact that Marty want's to become famous and successful all over the world. If he was so private why would he want that. Any woman what is involved with him with that kind of success will be known also all over the world.

Don't feel badly about being flustered--I'm sure that happens to Marty a lot, and will be more so after the tour and CD comes out. He probably really appreciated that you liked his music and him as a person so much.
I am sad about the camera phone part, and that makes me realize I need to practice with mine more; if a fantastic photo op came along, I would probably mess it up if I had to rely on my phone also. I usually just use the digital camera.

We are all happy for you, Karen. What a chance of a lifetime. I was one who was curious about his date, tho. I won't ask anymore questions.

Waiting4mc (oh, I just got that...I guess the wait is sorta over, you met him ;D), I admire the fact that you won't divulge info about the girl. Am I curious? Absolutely, I'm dying to know about this lucky lady but I understand that it's really not my business. And that's what I think makes Marty fans so different from other types - we tend to respect his privacy more than other types of fans - it's one of the reasons I'm so proud to be a Marty fan...we're mainly respectful people (even while going nuts in the 18+ board ) (Just to throw out a little crazy hope to all us females, just cause people are holding hands and what not doesn't mean they're going out...me and my ex/now friend can be very cuddly, etc, but we're most certainly not going out.)

Hey Karen...
Well said and well done!!! I totally understand and respect your point of view...and agree wholeheartedly...if you really care for someone....you keep their best interest at heart...and as true fans...we need to do our part to keep Marty's privacy as intact as possible...being a celebrity does have its' down sides...and having your privacy ripped away is one of them....it is only human to be curious though....I don't think anyone here intended to put you on the spot...it's just hard to keep that curiosity bottled up!!
Keep a smile on your face!! "There's more for us in this life!"

Karen, I truly do think you will meet him again. Good for you for respecting his privacy. Good karma will come to you for that. I'm so glad he got to go to a concert by a band he likes, and just have fun, like the rest of us! He deserves it--he worked his butt off for all those weeks on the show, and I'm sure he's working even harder now, to get everything all pulled together for his band's success. I hope he boogied down to Franz! Rock on, Marty!!! ;D

Okay, I have debated with myself over this girlfriend thing and I am going to weigh in. First, Marty said he was single and unattached. Why lie? Second, if it's the old girlfriend, she is an actress in NYC and I cannot imagine that publicity is a bad thing. Third, I am the girlfriend of a handsome film star (who would choke if he knew about Marty). His son was named one of People's "Most Beautiful" in years past. So I have experienced the fan base and I find that there are three types of fans: Purists: who are just into the art, music, dance, etc of the artist with no interest in personal statistics. Fantasy Dreamers: who are normal, healthy people with wonderful daydreams and fantasies who not only enjoy the art but the artist. They like the little tidbits of gossip. No harm, no foul. Crazies: Those who have their own agenda and will follow it to the detriment of anyone else. Frankly, from a girlfriend point of view, if he's got one, say so. There are women who will find themselves uneasy over fantasizing over someone else's man especially when they thought he was free and clear. It doesn't have to be anymore than "Yes, I have a girlfriend". That's what my boyfriend does and I feel like my privacy is very protected. There will always be those who will be sure that if they can just meet their idol, no girlfriend or wife has a chance. They're wrong but that's their issue. Most people just want to say "Wish you the best!" and "Love you" and etc. Anyway, I have weighed in. I don't think anyone should be chastized for normal curiosity. ;D Inquiring minds, you know.

Typodi,
Points all well taken. And it's good that your privacy is protected, but I am sure it can be stressful for people whose partners are famous who aren't as lucky as you are. It's interesting how some people can ward off the "crazies" and some can't.
I agree that people in relationships should be honest about them, and hopefully Marty is. If the girl in question is his old girlfriend, and she is an actress, then I can't imagine she wouldn't welcome some publicity, especially here in NY.
But you yourself are apparently in a relationship with someone famous (of course, now I'm curious). If he didn't protect your privacy, your life could be very difficult.
Some people seem to crave publicity, and completely give up their privacy. Have you seen "My Fair Brady" and "Breaking Bonaduce"? These people have cameras following them everywhere. They bare all their dirty laundry and relationship problems for all the world to see. Bonaduce's rationale is that he is a car wreck and everyone has a right to slow down and gawk. It amazes me, because his wife has signed on, too. Their kids are also taped. So are their therapy sessions.
It makes for fascinating television, but it's also pretty weird. When does the star go too far? When do the fans? There's always a fine balance to be reached here.

I agree with everything you said and you bring up some interesting points. I wondered myself about Brady and Bonaduce and wonder why they put themselves on a grandstand that exposes every wart. Not to my taste. To me, a fan that just wants to know vital statistics, someone's birthday, married, girlfriend, favorite color, so what? It's fun.
I have a few more thoughts but I have to run now so I will have to finish later but thanks for your post. It was an excellent one.

Hey typodi... Thanks for sharing your thoughts...as you do have a different perspective than most of us...as you are the girlfriend of someone from the celebrity world.... I believe when Marty was asked the question of being single and available...that was truth...at that time. Since then...who knows what has transpired and if his status has recently changed, or evolving. ...only those closest to him know that. I can understand you wanting someone to be honest...if there is a girlfriend....because to not acknowledge that relationship....is hurtful to that person. I am glad your guy is direct and honest...and says he is with someone.... I love your categories of fans...sounds pretty spot on to me!! I admit to falling into category #2....where Marty is concerned. I am curious about things that are truthfully none of my business...but I do try to reign that in out of respect for him....but I sure do understand people wanting to know....truly I do!! Thanks for weighing in...enjoyed your post!

Sad, really...

What's also interesting about "My Fair Brady" is that how fans react to celebrities is bound to depend on where they live and how often they get to see them. It's not like Chris "Brady" (see? I don't even know his real name) is some major star, especially now.
But when he went back to his girlfriend's home town, he was hounded. Of course, driving around in a stretch limo with cameras following him probably had something to do with it. He didn't seem to mind, since he was already spending his entire life on TV, and getting attention was on his agenda anyway.
It's funny, though, living in a big city where there are all kinds of well-known people from all walks of life (actors, musicians, politicians, newscasters, athletes, etc.) that there is probably nobody who everybody would recognize. I like looking at people, so I've seen a lot of them here, ranging from Keith Richards to Don King, and they can be out in public and receive absolutely no attention (which is pretty amazing, considering that Don King is a very big guy and was wearing a green suit).
Generally we have a tendency to tune people out when we're walking around, or eating dinner out, or going to concerts, since we are so on top of each other anyway (which, in Marty's case, wouldn't bother me one bit!).
So kudos to Karen for recognizing Marty and talking to him! I'm not sure I would have had the nerve to go up to him.
