I Googled the name of Marty's vocal coach, Roger Love, and read a bit about him. I think Marty made a very wise choice to work with him! I hope he still is. www.rogerlove.comwww.nightingale.com/p~Product~Roger_Loves_Vocal_Power.aspFrom the second site listed: "Presence, charisma, and star quality lead directly to your state of mind and the way you inhabit your body. In Roger Love's Vocal Power: Speaking with Authority, Clarity, and Conviction, renowned "influence and vocal power expert" Roger Love, will transform both the way that others perceive you and the way that you perceive yourself. With the vast array of insights, techniques, and exercises he provides in this one-of-a-kind program, you will find your voice and overall demeanor transformed with little effort and a great deal of fun! You will learn: How to focus your voice, mind, and body to create the kind of star presence that will magnetize support for your ideas and keep your teams motivated. How to master the power of breathing to create a level of communication that possesses authority, clarity, and conviction. How to use the tools that will assist you in gaining confidence so that, even as you change the content of your work to pursue your passions, you'll retain the core ability to mobilize people around your vision - wherever it takes you. How to successfully re-direct any negative inner dialogue into positive thoughts. How to care for and feed your voice, separating folklore from fact. How to maintain excellent posture, gesture correctly, and make a much more memorable connection with your audience. " I think Marty must be one of his best students!

I think maybe Roger Love had met someone who was already on that same vibe already. Maybe Marty learned some from Roger, but I bet Roger learned some from Marty.
As Dave said, "You learnin, is kinda teaching us".

It's good that he found someone who understands that's part of the whole package, not just the mechanics of singing. I guess what I'm saying is that it takes an exceptional coach to work with an exceptional talent!

When people on the boards say they're singers or vocal coaches I'm always really cautious about their opinions. Some of them are looking for the wide range and the vocal gymnastics that I really hate and don't understand that passion is what makes singing great. It sounds like Roger Love is a great coach for Marty - I hope he continues with it.

Hi BBE, I hope Marty doesn't get rid of the "screaming" with this vocal coach. I love that part of Marty. I read this article a while back and this "scream" coach teaches a screamer to scream w/o damaging the vocal chords. jam.canoe.ca/Music/2005/10/16/pf-1264901.html

I have to agree with you about Marty not giving up the screaming. I enjoy his raunchy songs just as much as the more mellow ones. "This Town" is my current favourite. I want to hear that one live and loud, and I want Marty to scream it!!! (I'll be screaming it too.) Brian Johnson has been screaming AC/DC tunes for over 25 years and he still sounds fabulous. P.S. Screaming doesn't necessarily damage one's voice and throat nodes can happen to anyone -- even mellow crooners. Just ask Julie Andrews. P.P.S. I just read the previous post about breathing. I had a vocal coach in high school who used to make me lie flat on the floor and sing. I learned a lot from her. You can't help but breathe properly when you're trying to sing to the end of a phrase in that position. Try it; you'll get dizzy at first, but it's fun.

Lately my favorite LH song has been Real Man. I love the story behind it and the lyrics are great. There is a bit of *screaming* but that makes it sexyyyy I love the aggressive voiced Marty!

I'm with you. Real Man is on the top of my favorite playlist....ok..after Velvet of course. I love the songs where there is some "screaming"...just at the right places. Hope Julianah that you are right. In the Live-Raw video he tells the audience that they have to give it all that they've got and he will give it all that he's got. I would like to think that he has many good years ahead so that we can give it all that we've got and he can give it all that he's got.

Did anyone watch Ellen yesterday? OMG--Reese Witherspoon was on and they showed a clip from the new movie "Walk the Line" about Johnny and June Carter Cash. She did an amazing job singing her own songs (at least from the clip they showed) and she said she had never sung before, but they wanted her to learn in six months to sing. GUESS WHO she got for a vocal coach?!!! Yes--Roger Love. She said he was wonderful and taught her enough to go from never having sung to doing all of her own songs in the movie. I think Marty is definitely in good hands!

Thanks for topping this, Amy. I missed it earlier!
Roger Love seems like a perfect match for Marty.
