yes, all 742 pages of it and I must say that I am even more impressed with Marty (and well, all the Lovehammer members for that matter) Here are some interesting messages Marty wrote way back:
(sometime in 2000, in response to a rather rude poster who was getting on the LH's case for some things:)
"FNM is a pyromaniac. A firestarter. Someone needed to shock some life back into the guestbook. The last one to fire it up in here was Sadie. That was more of a soap opera episode than anything actually dealing with SLH. First things first, I'm glad you enjoy the music and the live shows. There are countless other bands out there that want you to listen and support their cause. I would rather be discussing the songs or the shows but first we must take care of the business at hand. All of you criticisms and concerns are heard loud and clear. Show time will be more specific! That is a very justified critique. I now understand the importance of this guestbook. It is the perfect way to annonomiously comment/question/critique on what is going on with SLH. Every member of this band will take more time to repond to your questions. We have never taken our fans for granted. The strengh of SLH lies within those that listen to the music and spread the word. We try to show how much we appreciate what you do for us by talking to as many people at the shows as we can. I don't think walking around before/after the show and just saying hello to everyone is enough. I have conversations with fans and there is only so much time before the bar is closed. I would rather have a couple full-fleged conversations with people, rather than just saying hello. After all is said and done, we try and give you everything we got, all the time. I will respond to the guestbook more often to talk with everyone.
FNM you asked a question about what is the best/worst thing about being the center of attention: The best thing is having control of the stage when the room is really rockin. I close my eyes and just let myself go and once in a while I get completely immersed in the music and when I come back down and open my eyes there are a couple of hundred eyes staring back at me. I know that there are people in the crowd that can feel how I feel. I work hard to get everyone in the room off. Hope that you can forget everything else that is going on outside of the room. Focus for a few moments on the show and let yourself go. All the time spent booking shows, promoting, practicing, writing material is for those moments of insanity on stage. People need differnt things to get them off. I don't do crack, so I do live shows.
The worst thing about being the center of attention is learning that no matter what you do you can never please everyone. If you like what you hear stick around for the encore. If you don't, get the f**k otta my face."
(again in 2000 sometime in response to a poser using his name when writing on the message board:)
"Who ever posted the last reponse as as "Marty" has some nerve. The response was nice and all but it was not my posting. Don't ever put words in my mouth. In order for this guestbook to work we have to be able to decipher who is really who. Please respect, that is all I ask.
Blue asked a Question about how Sleeper came about: I was lying in bed trying to fall asleep but couldn't. I laid there for hours. This is a fairly often occurence. Sleeplessness. Sometimes when I can't sleep I try to imagine the bed sucking me in. For some strange reason it hepls me slip away. You are kind of in a state of half sleep/half reality. I can see cars headlights pass by my window but it feels more dream that reality. You know you are somewhat still awake but your mind is so tired you don't have a firm grasp on reality. I think it was moments before I would have fallen into deep sleep and the melody "last night I dreampt I was sleeping" blew through my head. And the rest of the lines just kept coming. I had to force myself to get up and write the words down. I knew I would lose them if I feel asleep till morning. I grabbed a book that was on the floor and wrote the entire song on the inside cover. It was a book called "The Stranger". Billy and I ent into the studio a few days later and recorded the song in one take. It wasn't a perfect take but it had the right sedation to it. I figured that the words came without any effort then so should the performance. 'm proud of that song. The band did a great job mixing the song because everyone agreed it should be left raw. Just a naked voice. I thought it was a perfect way to end "L'Strange".
Thanks for asking Blue.
Marty Casey"
and on Sept 12/2001:
"We have endured terrorist attacks in the past. When we retaliated we struck only millitary targets with absolute percision so we could limit innocent casualties. What happen yesterday was a threat to the worlds freedom. Using our innocent citizens as a bomb to target more of our innocent citizens. This is pure cowardice evil. Children, mothers, fathers, police officers, firemen, white collar, blue collar, every race, color and creed were brutally murdered yesterday. These terrorists can't stand the fact that we understand how to live life, how to love, how to accept others choice of religion. We will find those involved and murder them in the cruelest of ways. Make them feel the pain that each one of the victims felt and then continue to inflict pain on them until they understand how the world felt watching their cowardly acts. If you want to cause destruction and have to have others do the dirty work for you, than that makes you the poorest of souls. No Matter what happens in this world we all know that Instant Karma is gonna get you, and that lasts for eternity. Can't wait to see your ugly f**kin mug on the front page of the Sun Times with your throut slit ear to ear and you balls shoved in your mouth you prick!"
and here are just a few tid bits he wrote to update people:
"Hey everyone,It's been a real long time since we have seen or talked to anyone. We really miss seeing you at the shows. It is difficult to take time off from shows cause they are so much fun. I'm going through withdrawls myself. I want to let everybody know that we have written so many new songs. For the first couple weeks we were just jamming in the basement and then we really hit stride and all of us wrote songs outside of practice and then brought them to the band and really brought them to life. We have about 17 songs completed and will eventually release the best of the bunch. I am so incredibly excited to release this material. I can't wait for everyone to hear it, feel it. You all know that Ben is no longer playing in the Lovehammers. Some of the posts on the website have been in the vein of "Who Cares About Ben". I want you to know that We care about Ben and always will. He is still our friend and we wish him the best of luck. Thanks for staying connected via Lovehammers.com over our haitus. I'm really blown away at the number of Double Door tickets sold. Hammerheads are comming in from all over. From coast to coast, no joke. Waht a night it will be. Can't wait.Marty Casey"
"There is nothing wrong with bringing Ben's name up on the guestbook. He was a part of this band for a long time. I can't sit here a honestly say that I do not miss him. I do! He is and always will be a part of my life. You will never understand what I am going to say, but I will try anyway. There are only 24 hours in a day and Ben was operating on a 48 hour schedule. We wanted to put every single moment of energy into our next cd. This is what I have been building up to for my entire life. I wanted to put every moment of my life into creating the best Lovehammer cd anyone has ever heard. This requires singular focus from every person involved in the record. I am surprised that Bob, Dino and Bill din't beat my ass for putting them through what it took to make this CD. Everyone put there life on hold for this record. 5 months of rehearsing, pre-production, rewrites, mental breakdowns by Marty, road trips, studio delays, 18 hour recording sesions, Screaming at the top of my lungs insanity. Life has a funny way of kicking you in the face. I knew in order to make this record we needed alot of time from everone involved. Recording was the focus of my life for the past 5 months.I am really excited for everyone to hear the results. For the first time in my life I am beyond words proud of what we have done and hope the everyone feels the way I feel. But, if you don't, I don't care because I honestly could not have given any more at this point in time. I am drained from putting my life on th line for this record. All I want to do now is work my ass off to build a great show for you. Something new to excite you and make you feel how I feel.To those that understand.... To those that don't, f**k everyone that gets in my way!"
I am a fan of Marty's and the band, and I am truly pleased to see that he is really as nice and as genuine a person as I thought he would be. After reading these posts, it just makes me that much happier that he (and all the guys in the lovehammers) are receiving the attention they deserve, they've worked hard for it, and I hope that they will have many years more of it.
