"Trust that your voice is going to connect with people, don't rely on tricks and lights and pyrotechnics. Trust that your voice is compelling enough to move people. You really don't need anything else."
From Oakland Tribune article.

"I like to be in control. I'm patiently controlling." "Sing it if ya know it!" I love the way he said that in his interview with INXS. Such a turn on.

1. You change your life or you'll die for sure.
2. Why are we alive?
3. How can I possibly change the world?
4. Why can't you leave yourself alone?
5. I know your hiding places
6. If I lose myself, how can I save you?
Obviously, Marty gives thought to what his life is about and his connection to other people and it comes out in his music...communicates to us with a *click* the first time we hear it, then grows from there....... ...simple, profound lyrics yet truly marvelous!

6. If I lose myself, how can I save you? OK - which song is that one from? Here's another - "Be Happy, Take Chances" I saw that on the old old LH board/guestbook the other day.

I find that patiently controlling quote to be one that really sticks with me. I can just IMAGINE him patiently controlling ME, and although I would usually hate a controlling man, with him it would be SMOKING HOT!

Marty was quoted by Den (though I'm not sure she knew it was a Marty quote, did you Den?) It was in the Asian Street Team thread and it reminded me when I saw it that it's one of my favorites from the Twisted 12 concert: Yeeeeeeeehaaaaaaaaa!!!!!

To clarify my quote above about the Marty yeeeehhhhaaawwww!!! This is the explanation for my failed attempt at an "inside" joke that I sent to a confused Den earlier this morning.... Go and listen!! [glow=red,2,300]Yeeeeeeehhhhhaaaaawwwwwwww!!![/glow] If you go to this link, click Lovehammers (scroll down to bottom of band list) then pick #9, then click on the play arrow, you'll hear my favorite live version of the Riddle with the [glow=red,2,300]Marty YEEEEEHHHAAAWWW [/glow]at the end. www.q101.com/T12/lifeAfterTwisted.aspx If you've never heard that, you are in for a Marty treat! I just played it and it's still just as cool today as the first time....I wish I'd been there!

All the suggestions above have been good ones! Here is what Marty wrote at the first of the year. I sent it around to several friends and family, even people I knew would never listen to this band, just because I loved what he said. It shows he has a beautiful soul: "I want everyone to make 2006 the greatest year of their lives. It is monumentally important to head into the year with a game plan. Resolutions of renewed focus on our lives. If we are happy then we will be able to push others around us into a positive light. We can build space for the things that we want to happen in 2006 and that way, when they come our way, we have room for them and nothing passes us by. What we manifest in our heads we can make happen. No more waiting for something to happen, now it's time to work for what we want. It comes easier than you think. I want all of us to succeed this year. Let's make it happen. " This is really a GREAT quote. It's up on my bulletin board at college!!

"What do you think this is.... a fu**ing sex show?" "Who do you think I am... fu**ing Tom Jones?" --Viper 2006 Those really stuck in my head, and they were actually: "Ladies, this is not a sex show!" (Said with laughter on his part) When someone gave him a rose, he said, "What am I now, Tom F*cking Jones?" (That was with more of an eye roll.)
