Hey from LA
Well, Well, Well. It had been awhile since I blogged. Got lots to catch up on.
We had a great time doing the acoustic shows at Best Buy last month. It was great to get the all-agers out there to experience the shows. I felt like a Beatle with all the high-pitched screaming going on. The meet n greets were also cool. I can't believe that fans flew in from all over the country to see the acoustic shows. We love that. This dedication blows our minds.
The trip down to Memphis was wild. We had a blast making the trip. The first night T-Bone suggested we eat at a famous BBQ place that was in the basement of some building on a dark alley. The food was increadible and we met alot of fans that were there for the Memphis in May Fest. Later that night we hit Beale Street met up with some of the guys from Staind's crue. For some reason they bought all of our drinks all night and paid all the cover charges. We didn't know why but we went along for the ride.
The Fest of Friday was great. We opened up the fest and had a good show. I was so psyched to see all of the familiar faces in the audience that I had to venture out into the crowd a few times. We hang-out with Buckcherry, Egypt Central and Puddle of Mud later in the evening and caught their sets. 3 6 Mafia was insane. Hometown show with 10,000 dancing along to their songs. It was incredible to watch.
Bob walked up to me the next morning and showed me the cover of the Memphis Newspaper with me hanging upside down on the front page. I was psyched. Cool thing was that Dino, Randy, Dan and T-Bone also got me copies. Our crew rocks, they are always looking out for me.
I flew to Los Angeles after Memphis and had meeting with management and played a really special show. Ben Stiller called me up and said that his wife Christine Taylor was a big fan. Ben wanted to surprise her for their anniversary and have me play a secret show in their living room. We set-it-up and I showed up at their home in the Hollywood Hills about 9:00 pm. Ben was waiting for me and we talked about how we were gonna surprise her. He went and got her and she walked in without a clue and was totally freaked when she walked around the corner and saw me. She was so cute and had fun with the situation. We sat around for awhile and talked and drank some wine. Eventually I played a couple of songs for the two of them and had some more conversation and then I took off. I must say that of all the things I have done since the show, that was definitely one of the funnest, craziest ever. Loved it!
I flew back to Chicago on Friday and checked out a flamenco guitarist named Benese. He is also signed to McGhee Entertainment. The show was killer and the dancers were incredible. Billy and Dino met me there and I brought my friend Renatta cause she is a huge fan of live dance shows. We met Benese and talked with the dancers after the show and then headed out for some drinks.
Saturday I hosted a music event at Harrah's Casino outside of Chicago. I never hosted anything like this before. I was the MC and introduced bands and stuff. The best part was getting the chance to meet the bands and fans and hang out with my brother and some old friends from my childhood. It was great to see Jason and Randy from back in the day. Dino made an appearance and I am happy to report he is feeling great and is finger is gonna be ok. About two weeks ago there was talk like he was gonna lose his middle finger. It's hard to road rage without a middle finger.
Bob and I are back in LA and just got invited to attend the VH1 Rock Ceremony for KISS, Def Leppard and others in Vegas next weekend. I have never gotten to see KISS perform and I am looking forward to all the pyro and blood spitting. Shoud be intense.
There are more and more dates being posted each day and I am happy we are making our way across the country. We have been offered a string of dates at clubs starting in a few weeks and I think we are gonna do it. We like the venues and are itching to get back in front of the fans.
We have been working of lots of material for future recordings and I really like the direction and sound. Definitely differerent than before and pushing to greater depths musically. Also, on a funny note, Marti Fredrickson and I wrote and puck-rock Christmas song. I called him and said, Hey Dude, let's write a Christmas song. He said why not, come on over. We sat down and wrote the entire thing in an hour and then laid the track down. It turned out phenominal. Always wanted to write a Christmas song. We are pitching it to Holiday movies and televission shows. Ya Neva Know!
Can't wait to see you all. It had been to long. Thanks for staying in touch and dropping those great emails and posts. It keeps me going knowing that so many are listening.
I want everyone to check out the MCLH video contest of martycasey.org. Cindy and Amy have worked really hard getting the contest together. It will be so cool to see what everyone comes up with. Washburn has donated some really nice guitars as prizes and I want to throw and special show out to them and say thanks.
I will be doing another interview with Laurie on the Sisterhood page next week and they should have that up in a week or so. Stay Tuned. Those interviews are always fun
I know the street teamers have been busting ass getting the word out about the record and the band. This has really worked wonders for our weekly sales. We have maintained really strong record sales since the release. It turns out that the stores are running low on product because of the demand. I love that!
Mia in Manilla has pushed "Trees" to nunber one on K-Lite radio station and has us getting spins on three other stations also. She is kicking so much butt out there that we can hardly keep up with all of the interviews, reviews and magazine spreads she has made happen. Thanks for all you hard work Mia. You Rock!
I will see everyone very soon.
