Hi radioclash, Yes, I saw it last Thurs. I though Ralph Fiennes was good as Voldemort - he wasn't all fire and brimstone but even better, was quietly sinister and there was something snake like in the way he pronounces his words. I thought that was quite a nice touch (hope I wasn't imagining it). I liked the way the tri-wizard tournament was fleshed out, especially the part in the black lake. It was kind of eerie. I think the part concerning how Harry solved the problem of going under water was also changed slightly (don't want to give away too much here). Must say I shed a few tears at the end when Harry brought back Cedric Diggory's body and bawled over him. Could really feel Harry's anguish. Oh yah, the Weasley twins were hilarious! On the whole, I must say that I preferred the book just a little bit more. I guess cos the director was trying to cram everything into 1 movie so I get the feeling that all were just highlights and very vignette style. The book had build up and all the episodes sort of cumulated into that horrific maze/cemetry scene. I also think that I sort of missed the snarling animosity between Snape and Harry. That angle wasn't played up in this movie. Favourites like Hagrid were not given much air time. As for Mad Eye Moody - I felt that we were not given much time to buy into his "looking out for Harry" facade so that the betrayal in the end is not as shocking. The actress chosen as the headmistress of Beauxbaton, the female giantess, didn't fit the mental image I had when I read the book. I had thought she would be darker, a little more buxom and wear a bun. To be fair to the director, he had much to work on and so little screen time to play with. I did feel a small thrill to be able to see the stuff I read about being fleshed out in the movie and when it fit my mental picture, wow! The final word: go see it, it is good for most parts. Maybe we can compare notes after you've seen it. I'm already looking forward to the next movie instalment.

UGH so frustrating to read about Harry P! For some bizarre reason, we are not getting it in HK until end of December! (Of course anyone can geta pirated version of any film here for US$2, but I'd rather have the surround sound, big screen and no audience noises! So frustrating to wait - and all so they can have canto-pop stars dub the voices!

Oh chk, you poor thing. Maybe you can get to watch it in Chicago when you're there for the Metro concert? Or make a stop over in Singpore...

I must admit that as I was reading the book (just a few months ago - I'm fairly new to the books) I was constantly searching the net to find movie stills on who was cast and was most definitely disappointed with some of the actors chosen, but I should hold off until I've seen the flick.

Hey radioclash, It was my pleasure, I love reviewing movies. Hope I didn't give away too much though. Glad to have found a few Harry Potter fans on this board. Yeah I agree with you regarding the casting of certain characters e.g., Dumbledore. I feel that Michael Gambon plays Dumbledore a little too strictly. And Arthur Weasley was not what I had in mind. But the casting of Hagrid, Hermione, Prof McGonagall, Harry's uncle etc was spot on. Did you read the latest book, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince?

I think the casting in the first few movies was brilliant (Hagrid, Snape, Malfoy) but of course I saw them before I read any books so I'm sure I would've been more picky if I had. When I was reading GOF I saw still photos of Madame Maxime, Fleur Delacour, Cedric, Krum, and Mad Eye Moody and was really displeased with some of the casting. I really shouldn't judge by 1 photo but particularly Madame Maxime and Fleur just did not fit into the images I'd conjured up in my head at all. Yes I've read Half-Blood Prince. It's going to be really interesting how that plays out. Somehow I still think there's a reason to not totally hate Snape yet......

Hey Radioclash and ayesa86, agree with you re: Snape. I think there's a twist somewhere. Radioclash, I completely agree with you on the casting for Madame Maxime, Fleur Delacour, Cedric, Krum, and Mad Eye Moody - the movie confirmed your 1-photo judgement. Why has this director botched it up? The actors playing those roles do not fit Rowling's descriptions. Re: the final book after Half-Blood Prince, am hoping it will not be too dark.

Welcome to the discussion, ayesa! I'm thinking the last book will be pretty dark and most definitely intense. I think we're going to see something similar to where the story started where everyone is divided - good vs. evil, etc. Lines will be drawn and we'll get to see who falls where - like whose side the giants will take..... Will Hogwarts even play a part in the last book?

I particularly disagreed with the casting of Mad-Eye Moody, the crazy Irishman persona was not what I expected

Radioclash, I'm not sure how fans will take it if Rowling were to leave out Hogwarts but like you, I'm quite sure that alot of it will take place outside Hogwarts. It's sad that Harry has to be alone and see his friends pairing up around him. I wonder if Neville will feature in the prophecy or not.
Ayesa86, yep Mad Eye Moody was a disappointment. Thank goodness he doesn't feature as much in the subsequent books. Good thing about the next movie instalment, we get to see Prof Lupin and Sirius again.

Oh yes - great point regarding Neville's part in the last book! I really like how his character has been developed. Re Hogwarts - well McGonagall will be there, and supposedly Ron, Hermoine, Ginny, etc.... There'll be lots of new parts to cast in the new films - Tonks, Luna, but probably the most interesting for me will be Hagrid's 1/2 Brother and Draco's Mom - I hope they get someone who just oozes sliminess - yuck don't like anyone in that family.

Yeah, though I always found Lucius rather amusing in a twisted evil sort of way.

Hey, I've booked my family to go see the Chronicles of Narnia this Christmas. Anyone seen it yet? I've not read the book. Seems to be a pretty long movie - 140 minutes. Hope it's worth it.

I suggest The Notebook, I know it's not out at the movies and stuff but it's such a tear jerking beautiful love story.
