I'm sorry.....I guess I didn't write clearly, although I thought I had.
Since the posts on this thread are from folks who want to help rescue animals, and/or want to better the circumstances of unwanted/abandoned/etc. animals, I thought that pointing out that the organization that benefits from the meager percentage this website passes on is *not* involved in any of the things folks here are concerned about.
I'm not sure where you're coming from, saying you have various opinions on welfare organizations.....HSUS is not a welfare organization. They do nothing for abandoned/unwanted animals.....anywhere.
Don't take my word for it.....look them up on the web, look at the articles and research done about this organization and tell me again that it's your opinion they do the works the people in this thread had expected.
This is not political/corporate...I don't know where that comes from. I am someone who has been hands-on involved in rescue (my specific breed of dog and all-breed) for the past 23 years. At present I have six dogs at my house, four of them rescues waiting to be adopted. I'm doing obedience training with all four, one may be passed along to a friend who is the head of the hearing dog program for her state.
I don't know why I have to justify myself in imparting information that is helpful.....however, let me add to my credentials...
I've been showing dogs for 18 years, they also work (herding, obedience, SchHutzhund, Ringsport, agility and sometimes flyball). I"ve been involved in my breed for 20 years, and have had two herding trial champions and two obedience trial champions, also numerous breed champions but their working titles are more important.
At my barn (three horses), a group of us take care of between 35 and 90 cats/kittens at any one time. We have a vet who works with us doing spay/neuter and we get bags of food from local stores....we also take bags of food to aids patients and to shut-ins, who cannot take care of their pets without our help.
I am the national head of our Breed Rescue program and have been for the past 9 years. I work with the local shelters, and we have groups of folks across the country checking their local shelters for pure-bred dogs and contact that breed rescue. We also volunteer at our local shelters and we also set up low-cost spay/neuter clinics in our area.
I have contact with a myriad of legitamate resue/welfare organizations and I'm asking you to research the HSUS because I don't believe it is the organization you believe it is.
Thank you for your time.
