We all have at least one thing in common, but I'd love to hear about everyone's other interests... hobbies, kids, career, passions, etc. I'll start the ball rolling. When I'm not downloading Marty photos and listening to the LH, I'm a graphic designer/writer in educational publishing and a part-time college instructor (intro to Photoshop). I love yoga and reading (but not at the same time). I also devote a lot of my time to keeping my bleached blonde hair looking "natural". Favourite authors: Non-fiction: Oliver Sacks and anything else about neurology Fiction: Martin Amis, Elizabeth George, Ian Rankin Favourite bands/artists (other than Marty/LH): The Band, Dylan, Bowie, Elvis Costello, Wilco, The Smiths, Taj Mahal Addictions (other than Marty/LH): Diet Coke with Lime, B&H Special Ultra King Size, and the occasional Boddington and/or G&T Now it's your turn. Tell us all about you!

I'm spending my days tracking the globe with my husband. He's an aerospace engineer and his work keeps us globe trotting. Right now we are doing a stint in the UK, but home is Montreal, Canada. I use to own an Esthetic's Spa and gave beauty treatments, but current situation makes that kind of work not possible, so I work part time at a bank. It's dull as hell. My computer is my life line to the world. I don't really have hobbies, just lots of interests. I am currently spending an inordinate amount of time learning about all things Marty and the LH.....

Alright...I'm a very happy divorced mother of 2 sweet and totally innocent teenagers.....that think it is soooo cool that mom here is listening to loud rock music again. Last year my mom got really sick with Alzheimer's Disease, emphysema, and a host of other bad ailments and I about killed everyone that worked in that d... nursing home, so I left work at that time to bring her home to me...where she belongs...no one needs to be treated like the way she was...and now she is comfortable and happy, but still not doing well, we have a nurse come in daily to help. Mom was the girl that drove to Memphis and stayed a week when Elvis (supposedly) died...lol...and she just loves listening to Marty's music with me, she thinks he's a hotty. I got lucky to find a part time office that would hire me as a probationary professional connected with the Illinois Correctional System, and that helps allot, and I'm still able to be at home, where I can spend every extra moment with my Momma whom deserves to be as happy as she made me when I was growing up. I have 4 dogs...mentioned that one in another thread....and love walking them and spending time on the computer doing research into how to make a difference...while at home....I really do miss working...and I have counties all the time calling and begging for me to return to work...overloads and shortages...yada. yada...no one is more important than what I am doing right now. Oh...and I love to read...oh the smell of a new book...sweet....but funds are really low now so my reading has slowed down a bit. So there's my quick story...glad to be here and I really get a kick out of ready everyone else's.....You guys can really be nuts sometimes....and that is soooo great.....Later...Nancy from Southern Illinois.....

Outside of my Marty/LH obsession, I work at a university in NC directing the scholarship programs on campus. Married, 2 cats, no other children . Have world's best hubby (sorry, must brag on him- he even said he wished he could buy the HMBOMT sheet music for me!). He's working on a Ph.D. and will hopefully be done next year. Love to read (seems to be a common thing among Marty fans), watch a lot of TV, go to the movies frequently, like to dine out. My husband and I travel alot because our families are not near us. Haven't been to Chicago yet, but love NYC (I'm a big-city kind of girl- would move to a bigger city in a heartbeat). Love to watch sports, especially tennis. ndavis021410, what kinds of books do you like? I might have a few that you would like. Don't mind sharing...

Hi. I'm currently an at home mom to 4 boys between the ages of 2 and 6. My prior career was working for the court system for 10 years, my last 5 years being dedicated to the area of domestic violence. My passions are travel, reading, the White Sox (YEAH!)and live music (of course) but it is very hard to have time for any of those (although my life absolutely did revolve around baseball the last 6 weeks). I'm grateful for the internet and e-mail as I can keep in touch with friends, learn what's happening in the world, etc. while the kids are either having a snack (which is right now) or sleeping. I think I became a fan of live music at the age of 16 after hearing my boyfriend's brother sing in a garage band - it was all over from there. I love all types of music except for country - not a big fan, ironic because my close friend is a huge fan. In addition to checking out this message board and the LH website, I also frequent the LOST message boards - LOVE that show - my current favorite! Love reading these boards as some really great people post here.

"I'll go next..." tooks - I know I have said this before, but you're so darn cute! You're my writing hero!
OK, I have been married for 19 years and have one stupdendously, intelligent, beautiful 18 year old daughter. Now that she has left for college, it's my turn! By day I am an Assistant Librarian in a primary school (K-2) and I love those kids to death! By night and on free time I am going back to school for culinary arts (probably nutritionist or something along those lines for my future), I listen to good, hard music, obsess over Marty - oh and best of all have started a new love of skydiving. Once spring comes I would like to go and get my certification for that and continue to have an absolute ball in my life while jumping out of planes!
If I ever get nervous about anything, I think about the song "Wait for No One" (MOMM) and remember we only have one life here on Earth so make it count!
Oh yeah, love to run - am fanatical about exercising with the LH's in my ears!

Hi everybody. Thanks so much for responding to my initial post. I was pretty sure Marty's fans wouldn't be a bunch of boneheads, and it turns out I was right. So many smart, interesting people all meeting in one place. The internet's a beautiful thing. (sniff. sniff.) Getting emotional. Thanks for sharing. Can't wait to hear from more Marty fans.
Juliana
P.S. ndavis, I really admire you for taking such good care of your mother. She's lucky to have you, and it sounds like you feel lucky to have her too.

I guess that I'll go next. I'll show my age here. I have 3 "kids", ages 32 (oldest born Sept 26, 1973 so I feel a real bond with Marty's mom), 27 and 26.
My first rock concert I ever attended was the Beatles. I took my oldest son to his first rock concert (U2's Joshua tree). Favorite Bands/music: I love all kinds of music.. U2,REM, Greenday, Pearl Jam..not a big country fan though I can enjoy some of the crossover music. I'm a medical technologist. I mainly do HIV and Hepatitis PCR testing for clinical drug trials. No animal testing by the way.
Books:I'm really into non-fiction/history lately. I find it fascinating what ordinary people have done under extraordinary circumstances.
Obsession: Right now the internet; finding LHs music/videos and all of the songs I have yet to hear.

dlh, you know what they say- age ain't nothin' but a number. You sound like a true rock chick, raising your kids up right on the good stuff. I'm 30 (forgot to mention in my earlier post) but I feel like a teenager again listening to the LH. It takes me back, ya know?

I think Marty reminds me so much of Bowie. It's been a very long time since I was this excited about a band. Marty's & LH lyrics/music just blows me away.

dhl, you are my inspiration! I'm hoping my boys will enjoy rock music as much as I do and look forward to taking them to their first concert. My mother is 60 and told me I'm too old (I'm 39) to be going to rock concerts. I told her I plan to continue rocking well into my 60's and beyond. You also brought back a wonderful memory for me when reading your post as my first concert was the U2 Joshua Tree tour (April 1987 - still have the t-shirt from that concert!). Being at that concert was one of the most memorable moments of my life. I am sooo looking forward to the LH concert and being there will all these great fans.

I can totally relate, dlh. When I was 10 I heard "Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars" for the first time. My best friend had 8 older siblings so there was a lot of music in their house. Then I saw pictures of him. He was my first serious crush. The first cassette tapes I ever bought were "The Man Who Sold The World" and "Another Face" and for my 13th birthday, my mum rented a VCR and the Bowie "Farewell" concert video for me. When "Let's Dance" came out in '83 all of my friends were suddenly loving him too, but I felt so cool because I'd been into his older stuff for years (3 years at that point). ;D Marty has his own unique thing going on, but I was mesmerized by him the first time I heard/saw him perform. Bowie is the only other artist who has had that kind of instantaneous (and lasting) effect on me. They both have a way of inhabiting a song and communicating so much emotion through eyes and body when performing. They also share an ease and grace in the way they move. Love 'em both.

While we were watching U2, Marty was starting his own band. Now we can all look forward to LH in concert..it will be a blast! Too old for rock concerts? ....naaaaaaah...life is too short...enjoy it!

dlh - Your lucky your kids have good taste in music! As an act of rebellion, my 18-year old listens to crap music!!! She inherited her father's gene of liking folk music. Makes me ill. Why couldn't she just drink and do drugs like most normal kids? I'm hoping hit's a passing phase!

OMG Henry! You totally cracked me up. My daughter is a little off the wall and DID NOT inherit my 'sneaky' gene. Some days I just wish she were doing bongs in the basement! Every time she pulls ANYTHING, she gets caught and I have to voice of reason. She's a senior and....well nuff said. Thanks for the laugh!!!!!

Why couldn't she just drink and do drugs like most normal kids? I'm hoping hit's a passing phase! I see I'm not the only one whose kid does share her love of rock. I envy those of you who can. My 14 year old (going on 25) daughter is into rap and reggaton (spanish rap). Sigh. My wonderful hubby of 23 years is taking me to see LH (oh yeah, I think INXS is also playing). He got us some killer seats. He also isn't into rock. Fleetwood Mac was his fav in the 70s and he'e still stuck there! LOL My first concert at the tender age of 14 was . . . can't remember. Those were the psychedelic days. Been to many concerts over the years. Took my kid sister to see Led Zep in San Diego. The tickets were $8 bucks. Saw The Eagles during their Hotel California tour and then again for Hell Freezes Over. We're going to see McCartney this month. (I'm old enough to remember swooning and doing backflips over him when they appeared on Ed Sullivan.) I was into music like Traffic and Jeff Beck in the old days. Later, Nirvana and U2. Marty has made me wake up and appreciate rock music again like no one has in a LOOOONG time. When I found out about the Lovehammers, I thought how good that he didn't win and take a "lead role in a cage" with INXS. It is so great that they invited the guys to join them on tour. What an opportunity. I know that Marty is grateful, and rightly so, but we all know that he and LH will probably outshine them by the end of the tour. (He did say they were going to be a hard act to follow.) I became a teenage mom and have a wonderful daughter who is Marty's age (actually just turned 33). She and her new hubby live in Manhattan. I'm looking for grandchildren soon (I hope). My hubby and I publish the local daily paper in our community of 250,000 in north LA county. We also publish two monthly magazines (I do those, he takes care of the paper). We don't have lots of spare time, so we mostly hang at home. We do like to travel when we can. We lead the boring suburban lifestyle, but that will never take the "rock chick" out of me! Glad to be able to meet and share with all of you. I've never done this before. Marty has put a spell on many of us. . . .

Wow Henry, What strong words ! Hope your joking about the drinking and drug's part. You did say you work in a library with little kids did you not? I happen to think folk music is pretty cool to listen too It's just another form of art.
RE: What do you do( when your not here?)
Well with 2 children in college and one in high school I can finally get back to some of the thing's I used to do before things got to hectic. I used to own a small diner and I was also full time chef. Love to cook and be creative, but year's before that I had a friend who had her own clothing line and designed and manufactured clothes for young girls. I got the opportunity to work with her and I made a lot of the accesories that went with the outfit's. I loved it so much and was a good seamstress that I started designing and sewing outfits for my sister who was the lead singer in a country music band( along with her husband who was in the service prior to that and sang and played backup for a lot of well known country music stars back in the seventies and early eighties. ) They played and traveled all over southeast coast back in early eighties. Unfortunately my brother in law got Ill with Melonoma Cancer and my sister took care of him until he died less then 2 years later, she hasn't sang since then. But her daughter formed her own rock band a number of years back and has been traveling with her band all along the uppersouth . Plus they do a lot of local gig's. After I sold my restaurant, I started designing and creating outfit's for my neice. I use a lot of vintage material in my creations along with some beautiful silks and fabrics from Thailand. (My sister-in-law is from Thailand and her and my brother go back to her homeland for a month every summer and she brings back beautiful fabrics etc. Her mother is a beautiful seamstress and has designed and handsewn many gowns for the empress of Thailand a number of years back) I also created a lot of outfits for my children over the years. It's nice to get back into it. I am also into photography. I got my first camera when I was 10. I had to suck on a lot of dum-dums and save all those wrappers to mail in along with 50 cent's(anyone remember those day's?) Four week's later I got my little black plastic camera that included the film. And that was the start of my fascination with photography . Been taking pic's ever since (with different camera's over the year's of course). Over the year's Ive done my own landscaping and have beautiful gardens all over our 1oo plus acres. Ive taken beautiful pic's of all of it along with lot's of nature pic's of bird's and animals etc... Everyone tells me I should take my pic's and get them made into a book.. who know's maybe that will be next! I have thought about it though. We also have a mini farm going on in which I raise rare breed's of chicken's and turkey's and keep adding to my collection every year.
I also raise and produce organic heirloom fruits and vegetables and sell them locally at my farm and also to local restaurant's.
Well I could go on and on with all the love's in my life but got to go back outside to finish putting the garden to rest for the winter. Nice chatting with all of you, have a great day!

I'll go next...I'm 32 divorced no kids and work in the mortgage industry (something I have in common w Marty ;D). I have been obsessed with music my whole life, would like to sing but have mind numbing bad stage fright (the only person I can sing in front of w/out being drunk is my sister). Spent my whole 20's married and then getting divorced, so all my friends are now hitched w. kids and I'm odd "auntie" out. I've finally admitted to myself I am not the corporate type. I want to be a make up artist (I've done make up for people for years and everyone says I should go for it) any make up artists out there can give me any hints? What should I expect? I'm going to a private school in Hollywood to get my certificate this spring... I love reading (mostly biographies), the LA Dodgers (well when we still had a team damn Podesta) all things music, and dying my hair different colors...I've never participated in these kind of boards before so I want to thank you all for being so welcoming...it's nice to have people who share my "obsession" and don't think I'm weird....Also I am of the opinion your never too old to rock. My mom is 62 years old and keeps asking me when I'm going to take her to see Metallica
