Now if only we all had his metabolism.. god isnt that the truth. I am the same height as MC but there is no way I could ever get that skinny. It's just not possible with my bone structure.

rockbeast, I think it's admirable that you've mangaed to turn your life around and that you're so enthusiastic about staying in shape. I joined a gym about a year before my wedding so that I'll look good in my gown and dinner dress. I thought I was doing ok until my final fitting and then lo and behold, I'd put on weight! LOL...boy did I give the bridal shop a scare.
Thankfully, I lost weight after my wedding so the gym helped. My husband also joined so it made the routine easier. But last year, I gave up going to the gym as it got mundane. I'm into Yoga now and my husband has just started Pilates classes.
Best of luck to you and all who will be trying to work off the Thanksgiving pounds. Good thing that we don't celebrate Thanksgiving here...just Christmas.

I am a personal trainer and have been for lots of years. I'll be happy to pass on tips and tricks to help you guys along the way. I have clients from 24-year old salsa team leaders to a 98-year old sweetheart. I have clients with Parkinson's, dementia, diabetes, gross obesity and some are actually healthy. General tips: Form is THE most important factor in using weights. So go lighter and make sure you do it right. No need to do 3 sets of fifteen every time. Vary it. Vary the speed... Do one set of 100.. mix it up. Cardio: Frankly stay off the elliptical trainers if you have any type of knee or hip problems. It is an unstable environment and puts the pelvic girdle into a rocking stress situation. (Rocking stress situations should only be induced by Mr. Marty Casey.) Do what you like for cardio. Don't like to run. Don't. Walk, dance, swim - just move. **Rockbeast - you hunka, hunka burning love - keep up the good work. *****sheowl - specific information for you. Sedentary patients with inactive or mildly active Crohn's disease are good to go with A thrice-weekly, 12-wk walking program. Maintain a logbook of performance, discuss any issues with your doctor. Try to walk for 30 minutes each session. Take your little one with you and see the sights. You do not have to power walk, swing your arms maniacally or hop, skip, and jump. Just walk. You can have an increase of zinc urine output so do keep in touch with your doctor. Anyway, as I tell my clients, have fun with it. I hate the whole mentality of "I have to workout" , "I have to exercise". Who'd want to do it? It sounds horrible. People who are "changing their bodies in a new and healthy way" do better with music so crank up your Lovehammer and Marty Casey CD's and enjoy yourself. Last point: "no pain, no gain" is nonsense. If you are in pain, you hurt yourself. Go for the quiver - that twitchy feeling. You'll be doing yourself the most good. Holiday dinner time - use a smaller plate - just that simple - you can cut 600 calories of your meal alone and not miss out on a thing. Hope this helps. Your tips are all "spot on"! Thanks for sharing these with everyone...

*********************************************************** Rockbeast: Happy to help with any questions you might have. That goes for everybody on the "MC diet".
I would suggest that you do your workout first then your cardio. It's wasted effort to do cardio first since it takes 18-20 minutes to get to the fat burning stage. Workout first then cardio, takes five minutes to fat burning.
Stretching is highly underrated - stretching alone adds up to 7% strength to a muscle but always stretch warm.
Your routine sounds pretty good just remember to mix it up. The body adapts very quickly and you don't want to be sweating for the good stuff and have your muscles going "Yawn, been there, done that". *********************************************************************** Since some people may not have access to a gym or equipment here are a couple of great exercises.
Handy Tip for Shoulders: Stand with yours arms straight out in front of you, no weight, fingertips touching, then keeping your arms straight, take them back as far as possible. Do as many as you can - you'll be surprised at how fast your shoulders fatigue.
Quadricep Strengthening - large muscle in front of leg. Sit on the floor with your back to the wall. Straighten one leg and bend the other. Wrap your arms around the bent knee (just a hug, don't strangle it). On the straight leg, tighten the quad muscle and lift the leg as high as possible (for most people - that will not be very high). Then tighten the muscle again while the leg is lifted and lower the leg. It is non-impact and does not involve the knee. Again do as many as you can and then do three more. Switch legs and do the other one.
I am delighted at so many wanting to get healthy. Marty will have the most toned fans in rock history.

Thanks Rockbeast for bring this up, I lost weight awhile back but have the tendency to slip up during the holidays. Not this year I have to stay small so people can throw me onstage at Universal For me drinking lots of water helps and since I'm a choco-holic I take a tasty nutrition bar (Luna and Power Bar are good) chop them into bite size pieces and when the sweet cravings hit I pop a couple and chase down with plenty of water. Helps keep me full and away from the vending machine...Also exercising to LH is guranteed to keep people motivated! I'm getting some good tips to add to my exercise program so thanks!

Thank you so much for the info! Will do. Pudgy hugs to everyone....I am finished for the day (at least for now) and so I am going out to walk with hubby and kiddle. I guess excercising isnt so bad when Lovehammers are blasting in your ears and its a pretty day out, but I live in an area that rains most days, so what about dancing during the rainy days??

I guess excercising isnt so bad when Lovehammers are blasting in your ears and its a pretty day out, but I live in an area that rains most days, so what about dancing during the rainy days?? Hi Sheowl, I have a mini-trampoline (rebounder) and LOVE it. It's low impact and from the first day I got on it had absolutely zero aches or pains (like the ones you would get from running) It's so easy and fun - and boy does it tone your butt and legs. The bouncing is really great for your lymphatic system, and your digestive system - and probably any system you have. I was on it for an hour yesterday during the marathon and had a blast. I would recommend doing some research first though - spend a little more and get a good one. Apparently the cheaper department store trampolines are really just toys and don't have the right kind of bounce for serious exercising. If you want, PM me and I can tell you which one I have. I also do the Peggy Brill Core Program. I bought her book and found it so interesting and informative to read and boy does it work. It's no impact, stretches and strengthens your whole body, restores your energy level and gives you back the flexibility you had when you were younger. AND it's designed specifically for woman. I would recommend it to anyone. Note: I got it from the library first then decided to buy it. Those are the two things that have done WONDERS for me. The third is MARTY and the LOVEHAMMERS who keep me on the rebounder for a very long time every day.

RB, why do you think the LH have inspired us all to lose a little weight? Obviously you started before RS, but you seem very inspired by them. I have lost a pants size since the end of RS, and there are countless other people I've heard say this same thing. I must admit...I don't want to be fat at Aragon. I feel crazy for saying that but I really don't. I want to look good, damnit. I guess because the music and Marty make me feel like my younger self, I want to look like my younger self. Do you think that has made a difference to you? Its very cool that you come in here & hang out with us girls and share your feelings about stuff. Most men wouldn't say that Marty & the LH saved them...you are gutsy to share with us! I admire that. I will also eat small portions on Turkey Day in solidarity with you!

gina- hi. well I went through a severe bout of depression last year and was in therapy because I wanted to kill myself. I already brought this up in another thread. I should say MC and the LH were just a tool to boost me further towards my goal. You are correct, I did start getting better in March of 2005. I went off the anti-depressants then started looking at life and myself and then started working out and changed my diet. I slowly started changing. I not only lost weight (which I have done before), but I lost body fat, ALOT of it. 4 jean sizes. I was size 40 waist and now I am a 34. I wore a XXL and XXL size shirt before, now I wear a Large and my trainer swears I could get into a medium tall with a little more work.
I didnt say that the LH inspired "all of us" to lose weight. I said they are great to listen to when your working out and helped me to stay motivated and focused.
I mean, I have seen such a dramatic Turn around in my life since I saw RS INXS (mainly marty and the way he dressed/dresses). I have always liked clothes and in September (right when I joined this board) I had a slap of reality. I had all my fat clothes still in my closet. and wore them!! baggy and ugly and looking like sleeping clothes, etc. I looked at myself and for the first time I saw a thinner me (I had it, just didnt see it!), and I almost cried. So I started buying clothes and stuff, nice clothes. Versace, Gucci, Dolce and Gabbana, Diesel and Kenneth Cole, Hugo Vitteli, etc. Then off came my scraggly goatee and three weeks ago, I cut my hair which I had grown for 9 and a half years....
I didnt literally mean that MC and the LH saved my life, but I am sure the hell glad that they came into it.
Cheers and Good luck to all
RB

RB, I'm glad that things are looking way up for you! I remember your D&G shirt that you posted about wanting (hope you got it!). You're right- the LH are great to workout to. I can play MOMM in my head now, I've listened to it so many times- LOL! BTW, I like the new hair. My hubby has curly hair and he has to keep it fairly short or it gets out of control. I think I can speak for a lot of women when I say that many of us love guys who know how to dress and aren't afraid to embrace their fashion sense. And you have great taste in clothes from the sound of it! Hope to see you around at one of the concerts...

Thanks RB! Hopefully the LH will have some solo concerts next summer (maybe a break in between the North Am. & Int'l tours?). Let's keep our fingers crossed- I'll try to go to at least one, too, if they have one!
And your nutrition tip? So sad!! 2 tbsp. is so small- its not fair. In my fantasy world, I'd be the size I was in high school and be able to anything & everything I wanted without gaining weight!
We had our holiday lunch at work yesterday and one of my co-workers looked at my plate and said, "are you feeding a bird?" LOL! 2 turkey day feasts in one week- gotta pace myself.

I just read your post and thought it said, "I am making smaller portions OF myself." That made me do a double-take; I was very concerned about you.
