Okay, people, am off to join about 75,000 other Hong Kongers in a protest against the government's lack of action on democracy here. The beautiful thing is that technically this is China and yet we can say our piece... not that they'll report on the evening news! Last time the city took to the streets, we effectively ousted the inept governor and defeated some ridiculous legislation on treason. So spare a thought for all of us in places where there is no guaranteed vote -- and another thought for my poor feet. It's gonna be a long day! C

If people like you didn't take action, the world would never change for the better. I'm sending positive energy your way.

Wow chk - I'm really impressed. I've never been involved in anything like that . . . yet anyway. But the people CAN make a difference . . . all you need is critical mass. Your voice (or sore feet) will count!

Being one of the older fans here it reminds me so much of the civil rights protests in the 60's. It is wonderful to see so many people getting involved. Thanks for sharing the news item. Wow, you looked fantastic in the picture. Is that a new outfit? All kidding aside, I wish you all luck and please be safe. Denise

good for you chk!! I love doing stuff like that and have done one aids walk and two cancer marathons. thanks RB. I never consider myself particularly political but sometimes an issue gets up my nose and I have to do something. Here in HK, it's very easy to see what people power can do -- this is my 3rd protest here and I have to say I am never so proud of this city as when the citizens gather together for something. Also, as an American abroad one finds oneself defending or at least trying to explain US action on every front --and that has not been pleasant the last five years! Anyway, dragged my daughter along so she could see democracy in action... and also so someone could carry my bag for me! She's a real political animal in teh making --look for her to be President some day.
