Hate to double post but I like this one:
"Heathenism is a state of mind. You can take it that I'm referring to one who does not see his world. He has no mental light. He destroys almost unwittingly. He cannot feel any Gods presence in his life. He is the 21st century man."--David Bowie

An old quote, but a good one...from a Garth Brooks song: "One hand reaches out and pulls a lost soul from harm/While a thousand more go unspoken for/They say what good have you done by saving just this one/It's like whispering a prayer in the fury of a storm.......And I hear them saying you'll never change things/And no matter what you do it's still the same thing, but it's not the world that I am changing, I do this so this world will know that it will not change me..." ---Garth Brooks in the song "The Change" written by Tony Arata and Wayne Tester [/b] This always reminds me (even when I'm in chaos and don't feel like putting up with the daily crud) that we do have the power to change things...each one of us can make the world a better place. I challenge myself and everyone here to remember that we have the power to influence people to be better and "soar higher" (so to speak) each and every day. That's something I want to be more focused on from day to day. Peace.

What a chilling thought, to have no "mental light" to "destroy almost unwittingly."
Thanks for sharing that.

St. Paul writes, Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may prove what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. - Romans 12:2 (Holy Bible, Revised Standard Version) whether you believe or not, renewing your mind to being transformed to what is good and acceptable and perfect is a worthy thought.

In her book, "The Irrational Season," Madeleine L'Engle writes: "... all of the time some one is concentrating; there is always someone in the Body who is wholly focused on the Holy Mysteries; there is always someone keeping the strong rope of anamnesis unbroken, and so my belief in interdependence deepens ..."
anamnesis - very cool word, it mean a recalling to mind, a remembering
While Ms. L'Engle is writing here in a Christian context, the passage struck me as one that fits many situations. In our interdependence, there is always someone holding us up in love even when we are not actively doing it for ourselves.
Have a beautiful day all y'all!

Wear a smile and have friends; wear a scowl and have wrinkles. What do we live for if not to make the world less difficult for each other? Attributed to George Eliot I think this is what we all do for each other on this board - we make life a little bit less difficult!

I haven't read that book, but I understand that it is an excellent one. I love the time quintet (I'm including An Acceptable Time in there). One of my students did her oral report on A Wind in the Door the other day, but boy did those names give her trouble! Another quote from The Irrational Season (taken off Ms. L'Engle's website): "Never have we needed peace makers more. There is a peculiar horror in turning on radio or TV for the news and hearing about Christians fighting Moslems, or Catholics fighting Protestants, or Jews fighting Arabs."Could there be more appropriate time for a quote such as that? I think not. Peace.

May today there be peace within. May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be. May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith. May you use those gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that has been given to you.... May you be content knowing you are a child of God... Let His presence settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love. It is there for each and every one of us.

"God will never give you more than you can handle..." -MRS. Johnson Hawkins (my college professor and dear friend).
I remember a time when everything seemed just to be falling out of place, and everyone gave me advice that didn't seem to feel right.
I was young and I had everything in my life changing so quickly, and I felt alone.
I came to my professor after class to talk. She was a wife of a minister and had been an adviser at the college for some time. I trusted he opinion.
She explained to me that what I perceived as something that I couldn't handle was something that God knew I could.
She explained to me that the tests that I was going through in life would only make me stronger, and that God loved me and would never give me more in my life than he knew I could handle.
I just had to be open to change and believe that I was greater than the challenges before me. That has always held within my heart.

Will share a couple thoughts for the New Year -- Happy 2007!!
An optimist stays up until midnight to see the new year in. A pessimist stays up to make sure the old year leaves. Bill Vaughan
Year's end is neither an end nor a beginning but a going on, with all the wisdom that experience can instill in us. Hal Borland

This is nothing profound, but one of friends in High school Diana Diaz, told me once " Make-up doesn't change anything about your face...it only highlights what God already gave you."

this was part of an email story that I received today - and makes so much sense May God help us see the opportunities that are always around us to do good. Remember..... Just going to church doesn't make you a Christian any more than standing in your garage makes you a car.

and on a more upbeat note:
HAPPY NEW YEAR~!! 1. The nicest thing about the future is that it always starts tomorrow. 2. Money will buy a fine dog, but only kindness will make him wag his tail. 3. If you don't have a sense of humor, you probably don't have any sense at all. 4. Seat belts are not as confining as wheelchairs. 5. A good time to keep your mouth shut is when you're in deep water. 6. How come it takes so little time for a child who is afraid of the dark to become a teenager who wants to stay out all night? 7. Business conventions are important because they demonstrate how many people a company can operate without. 8. Why is it that at class reunions you feel younger than everyone else looks? 9. Scratch a dog and you'll find a permanent job. 10. No one has more driving ambition than the boy who wants to buy a car. 11. There are no new sins; the old ones just get more publicity. 12. There are worse things than getting a call for a wrong number at 4 AM. It could be a right number. 13. Think about this..., No one ever says "It's only a game." when his team is winning. 14. I've reached the age where the happy hour is a nap. 15. Be careful reading the fine print. There's no way you're going to like it. 16. The trouble with bucket seats is that not everybody has the same size bucket. 17. Do you realize that in about 40 years, we'll have thousands of OLD LADIES running around with tattoos? (And RAP music will be the Golden Oldies!) 18. Money can't buy happiness -- but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Corvette than in a Yugo. 19. After a certain age, if you don't wake up aching in every joint, you are probably dead. 20. Do you realize that today is the first day of the rest of your life? Make it count in 2007~!

Love your last two posts, oceancat!
Today, for Christians, is The Feast of the Epiphany of the Lord. So a few verses relating to that:
Arise, shine; for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you. Isaiah 60:1
The wise men saw the child with Mary his mother; and they knelt down and paid him homage. Matthew 2:11
Lord God, on this day of Epiphany may we also pay homage to the newborn king, as we offer the gift of our life to the King of kings and Lord of lords. Amen.
Have a happy day, all, Christian or not, we all need a light to shine in our darkness. Hope your day is blessed with love and light.

I love this prayer:
Dear Lord, I thank You for this day. I thank You for my being able to see and to hear this morning. I'm blessed because You are a forgiving God and an understanding God. You have done so much for me and You keep on blessing me. Forgive me this day for everything I have done, said or thought that was not pleasing to you.
I ask now for Your forgiveness. Please keep me safe from all danger and harm. Help me to start this day with a new attitude and plenty of gratitude. Let me make the best of each and every day to clear my mind so that I can hear from You. Please broaden my mind that I can accept all things. Let me not whine and whimper over things I have no control over. And It's the best response when I'm pushed beyond my limits. I know that when I can't pray, You listen to my heart. Continue to use me to do Your will. Continue to bless me that I may be a blessing to others. Keep me strong that I may help the weak... Keep me uplifted that I may have words of encouragement for others. I pray for those that are lost and can't find their way. I pray for those that are misjudged and misunderstood. I pray for those who don't know You intimately. I pray for those that will delete this without sharing it with others. I pray for those that don't believe.
But I thank you that I believe. I believe that God changes people and God changes things. I pray for all my sisters and brothers. For each and every family member in their households. I pray for peace, love and joy in their homes that they are out of debt and all their needs are met. I pray that every eye that reads this knows there is no problem, circumstance, or situation greater than God. Every battle is in Your hands for You to fight. I pray that these words be received into the hearts of every eye that sees it.
