Lets Have Some Fun! Since so many of us were products of the 80’s I thought it would be fun to have a place where we can talk; Everything 80’s. Many of us witnessed the birth of MTV (do you remember the first video ever to be shown on MTV?), music (good, bad, and funny), and movies you thought were fantastic, but when you watch them now they seem cheesy. Do you remember the fashion styles; slang (for sure), icons of the 80’s. We all remember these things so vividly and many times just the thought or mention of them can take you back to a time in your life. If it had to do with the 80’s let’s chat about it here. Please feel free to post pics and have some fun with this.

Anyone remember this song? I loved it and learned all the lyrics to it. :-[Our version of a Rap song. www.youtube.com/watch?v=xHPikUPlRD8Blondie - Rapture Rapture - Blondie Toe to toe Dancing very slow Barely breathing Almost comatose Wall to wall People hypnotized And they're stepping Lightly Hang each night in Rapture Back to back Sacrailiac Spinless movement And a wild attack Face to face Sadly solitude And it's finger Popping Twenty-four hour shopping In Rapture Fat fine Freddie Told me everybody's high DJ's spinnin' Are savin' my mind Flash is fast, flash is cool Francois sez fas Flashe' no do And ya don't stop Sure shot Go out to the parking lot And ya get in your car And ya drive real far And ya drive all night And then ya see a light And it comes right down And lands on the ground And out comes a man from Mars And ya try to run But he's got a gun And he shoots ya dead And he eats your head And then you're in the man from Mars You go out at night, eatin' cars You eat Cadillacs, Lincolns too Mercurys and Subarus And ya don't stop You keep on eatin' cars Then, when there's no more cars You go out at night and eat up bars Where the people meet Face to face Dance cheek to cheek One to one Man to man Dance toe to toe Don't move too slow 'Cause the man from Mars Is through with cars He's eatin' bars Yeah, wall to wall Door to door Hall to hall He's gonna eat 'em all Rapture Be pure Take a tour Through the sewer Don't strain your brain Paint a train You'll be singin' in the rain I said don't stop Do punk rock Well now you see What ya wanna be Just have your party on TV 'Cause the man from Mars Won't eat up bars Where the TV's on And now he's gone back up to space Where he won't have a hassle with the human race And ya hip-hop And ya don't stop Just blast off Sure shot 'Cause the man from Mars Stopped eatin' cars And eatin' bars And now he only eats guitars Get up!

Definitely remember Rapture, Isa! YC, wasn't MTV's first video "Video Killed The Radio Star" by the Buggles? Music, funny: Devo, B-52s One of my kids had a shirt on today that said "Goonies Never Die"...she's like 16...I couldn't help but laugh my butt off. I still remember the scene where they broke the you know what off the David miniature Slang: Awesome, Gnarly, Dude, Gag Me With A Silver Spoon!!!! Fashion: Rubber bracelets (hmmm)...I mean the jelly kind, jelly slippers, blue eyeshadow, pink blush, big hair usually held up by Rave hairspray, stirrup pants, big t-shirts with t-shirt ties...dusters...tons of buttons on your coat that support your favorite bands or have smart-aleck little sayings on them. I still have a set of Bon Jovi "Slippery When Wet" jewelry...earrings and a necklace. I pull them out if they have 80's day at school for spirit week.

Another song, I loved. www.youtube.com/watch?v=0bqgy1mebh8Shout - Tears for Fears CHORUS: Shout, shout, Let it all out These are the things I can do without Come on, I'm talking to you, come on CHORUS In violent times You shouldn't have to sell your soul In black and white They really really ought to know Those one track minds That took you for a working boy Kiss them goodbye You shouldn't have to jump for joy CHORUS They gave you life And in return you gave them hell As cold as ice I hope we live to tell the tale I hope we live to tell the tale CHORUS CHORUS CHORUS And when you've taken down your guard If I could change your mind I'd really love to break your heart I'd really love to break your heart CHORUS CHORUS

Now, this is my Top FAV song back then and I still LOVE THIS SONG. www.youtube.com/watch?v=6wpyilPsi6Q Love Rock-n-Roll - Joan Jett & the Blackhearts I saw him dancing there by the record machine I knew he must have been about seventeen The beat was going strong, playing my favorite song And I could tell it wouldn't be long till he was with me, yeah, me And I could tell it wouldn't be long till he was with me, yeah, me, singin' CHORUS: I love rock 'n' roll So put another dime in the jukebox, baby I love rock 'n' roll So come and take your time and dance with me He smiled, so I got up and asked for his name "That doesn't matter," he said, "'cause it's all the same." I said, "Can I take you home where we can be alone?" And next we were moving on and he was with me, yeah, me And next we were moving on and he was with me, yeah, me, singin' CHORUS I said, "Can I take you home where we can be alone?" And next we were moving on and he was with me, yeah, me, singin' CHORUS

Love this song~ Love Bryan Adams voice~ www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bw-YQzHmC7QHeaven - Bryan Adams Oh, thinkin' about all our younger years There was only you and me We were young and wild and free Now nothin' can take you away from me We've been down that road before But that's over now You keep me comin' back for more CHORUS: Baby you're all that I want When you're lyin' here in my arms I'm findin' it hard to believe We're in heaven And love is all that I need And I found it there in your heart It isn't too hard to see We're in heaven Oh, once in your life you find someone Who will turn your world around Bring you up when you're feelin' down Yeah, nothin' could change what you mean to me Oh, there's lots that I could say But just hold me now 'Cause our love will light the way CHORUS I've been waitin' for so long For somethin' to arrive For love to come along Now our dreams are comin' true Through the good times and the bad Yeah, I'll be standin' there by you CHORUS

OMG the stretch jeans...I think you could have bounced a quarter off our legs!!! My 80's staple were my Faberge stretch jeans... Rachael ;D ;D If you didn't need a friend to help you do them up they just weren't tight enough were they?? I used to put them in the clothes dryer to make them even tighter ;D I'm brave...here's me in 1984 wearing my Faberge's... I can't beleive how high the waist is!!!!!!! My other fashion thing of the 80's was big hair...I was a true 80's girl, I always had the biggest hair... usually accompanied with hot pink and bright blue eyeshadow, shoulder pads and yes...a big belt.

Ahhh, thanks guys for joining in the 80's thread, I wanted to here before I logged off yesterday, but kept getting pulled away. What memories you guys are coming up with, I had forgot about the whole Fluorescent phase, and the big belts. Wasn't big baggy t-shirts with leggings and the big belt. Oh, and the headbands, like Olivia Newton John in lets get physical. OH MY!!! How about the good ole Parachute pants. Cheza, yes it was Video killed the radio star! I remember sitting in front of the TV waiting for Thriller to come on for like an hour and trying to time when it would be played again etc...

Isa, I found it for you:
Artist: Ann Wilson/Mike Reno Lyrics Song: Almost Paradise (Love Theme) Lyrics Mike Reno (of "Loverboy") and Ann Wilson (of "Heart") Love Theme from Footloose
I thought that dreams belonged to other men 'Cuz each time I got close They'd fall apart again
I feared my heart would beat in secrecy I faced the nights alone Oh, how could I have known That all my life I only needed you
Chorus Whoa-oa ALMOST PARADISE We're knocking on heaven's door ALMOST PARADISE How could we ask for more? I swear that I can see forever in your eyes Paradise
It seems like perfect love's so hard to find I'd almost given up You must've read my mind And all these dreams I saved for a rainy day They're finally comin' true I'll share them all with you 'Now we hold the future in our hands
Chorus
And in your arms salvation's not so far away We're getting closer, coser every day
Chorus
