I read earlier today that Jeff Healey passed away at age 41 after a life-long battle with cancer. Prayers to his family and his bandmates.

I read it this morning too and I was a little shocked. I didn't realize he was ill? He is my age and that is way to young to be leaving us :-(

I was so shocked and saddened to learn this news. Jeff was an incredible talent and he had the most wickedly good sense of humour! I went to see him in Toronto a few times. The last time was in April 2007. I saw him play with his Jazz Wizards at his club, Healey's Roadhouse.
The weird part is that I saw Marty at Jeff's club in December 2006. It was the RockStar Party and it was the first event held at the new location of the club. The next night was supposed to be the grand opening, but it was delayed because of Jeff's health issues. He was such an optimistic person and he'd never complain, but he battled cancer off and on quite a bit in the last couple of years.
I have a friend who played keyboards in Jeff's house band on Thursday nights at his club for the past few years. They were supposed to be touring in Europe in April.
This is a huge loss for music. Jeff was a musicologist - he had over 30,000 jazz recording from the 20s and 30s and had a radio show in Toronto. He turned a lot of people on to that type of music, including me.
Jeff, you will be missed by many. Your karma is golden and your energy will carry on...
