"Marty: Fashion Icon" by DG Love it or hate it Mr. Casey’s fashion sense evokes strong feelings. There have been clubs that are totally dedicated to his fashion. There was the short-lived, snarky “Foundation to Buy Marty a New Tie” and the devoted “White Pants Chix Club.” As part of my own retrospective look back over the year, I reviewed Marty’s fashion from RS INXS. It is amazing how much of his fashion choices are still a part of his wardrobe. He didn’t dress differently for television. Let’s look back at Marty’s fashions from the show and then you guys add your take on how his fashion has evolved over the year. During RS INXS his fashion sense certainly stood out. The second episode introduced the pinstripe pants, fedora, vest, white belt and red tie. The items he wore in this episode have become iconic for many who read the boards. This outfit worked for the most part which made what was to follow the next week a bit chilling. Week two also had a similar feel with a tie and jacket combo, however that is where the similarities end. This outfit led some blogs to comment that he looked like a boy who had dressed himself for the first time. This was one of the worst outfits ever. However, it did seem to say “I don’t care about what I look like I’m in it for the music.” It seems like a bad outfit, but it seemed intentional bad so I guess that makes it ok. I love his smile in this picture. Week three shouldn’t have worked. It was the eagle shirt with the striped pants; however Marty can pull off many fashion faux pas. Again in this one we see the infamous white belt. And of course the pants are definitely a Marty staple. This is not one of his more iconic outfits, but it’s nice. Sigh... Week four... What a good week! This was the week that introduced what we call the nerdy Marty look. This shirt was later seen at one of the Best Buy shows. It is definitely a favorite of the fangirls. This is the outfit that inspired several conversations about “What if Marty was your professor.” Silly I know, but I love this outfit. Week four also saw the introduction of the blue shirt. Sigh... this shirt was later seen at many a concerts and was definitely iconic. The shoeless look works for him, as did the striped socks. One thing about Marty is that everything he wears looks intentional. It’s like he makes a statement with every outfit. He knows how to dress to make a strong impression. Are these the white pants but just don’t look like it in this lighting. There are those that say yes. I am unconvinced; however the lighter colored pants did start a crazy movement among the fangirls. The Converse tennis shoes should be noted as these are another Marty staple. They really work on him. So an iconic performance with Hit Me Baby One More Time and an iconic outfit all in week six. This really put Marty on the map. How he was able to pull off that song and this outfit is unreal, but he made both work. That doesn’t mean I think he should ever wear this outfit again, but still it worked for that night. Week seven was one of the best fashion weeks. The pants for the performance show should never be worn again, but what a great way to be reintroduced to the mad conductor. They totally fit the part he wanted to play. In fact the whole outfit helped to set up an amazing performance. Then in the elimination show, WOW! There ought to be a thread totally dedicated to the black t-shirts with pink print. They do wonders for him. Week eight was again a great week fashion wise and song wise. There is no need to go on and on about Marty in a red shirt. He looks great! It is especially great with the black jacket and pants. Nothing to snark about there. Then, for the encore, he wore a black t-shirt with pink print. I almost cried when they had the food fight and he was wearing this. Why couldn’t he where the paisley tie instead? The last three weeks were exciting weeks vocally, but not fashion wise. He looked good and well put together. I almost missed the insane outfits of the earlier days. It just kind of showed his metamorphosis into a totally focused performer. I must admit, I was glad and appalled at the same time to see the red tie make an appearance in Boston. There are many other iconic outfits. This is kind of a blast from the past review in order to get you thinking about Marty’s style. I was surprised to look back and realize how many pieces of his wardrobe I recognized from concert pictures. I had forgotten about them being on RS: INXS. Now it’s your turn to talk about Marty’s fashion over the year. Food for Thought [glow=red,2,300]by DG[/glow]

Thank you DG! This was a wonderful trip down Marty Fashion Lane. I never "got" the white pants, but MC in stripey pants! pants pants pants OK , enough. And the blue shirt! I almost cried when that went out on eBay, that I would never see him in it live. But I have the memories (photos)!

Oh DG, I love these trips down memory lane. Re: the "infamous" white belt --- I think Marty started a new fashion craze 'cause white belts are cropping up all over the place --- there were quite a few of the guys sporting them on RS:SN.
Ah, but the best part about Marty's outfit in the second episode ---- our first glimpse of his peekaboo belly. I personally like MC's ties. He wears them with attitude --- like he is flipping the bird to the fashion gurus.

However, it did seem to say “I don’t care about what I look like I’m in it for the music.” It seems like a bad outfit, but it seemed intentional bad so I guess that makes it ok. I love his smile in this picture. I'd say we're talking night/day combos here. He started out with the dapper "Take Me Out" outfit and then morphed into a 6 year old playing dress up. (Now Marty, I told you to quit playing with your father's tie.... ;D ;D ;D .) But yah, if it's Marty - it's intentional bad - and ends up being nothing but good... and even better in action, of course....

I love both of those.. They always crack me up. I haven't checked out what they've had to say about this season yet.

I knew it! Great article DG! Loved it! You skipped over the appalled part.. And thanks! You didn't really mean that part though...I think you were trying to be dramatic.

Week 2 and Week 7 are my choices for BEST Marty look.....That look of boy playing in closet, is what drew me to Marty....His bad boy image, his nonchalant way of dealing with clothes and fashion....I've never been a lady who cares too much for critical overviews of men, until Mr. Marty Casey came along....It's fun.....It's exciting to be with such a great diverse group of nuts overviewing eveything from pants, ties, hair-do's, shoes, and what not.... But yes, in my humble opinion.....Week 2's look was the BEST out of em all.....Later

My favorite outfit is the Lithium one. I was so happy when he wore the eagle shirt in Norfolk.
I like to see Marty having fun with his fashion. At the Philly show, he had a World Cafe sticker on the back pocket of his jeans! Both times I have been to shows, I had to force myself to note what he was wearing. My eyes get glued to his face, and they don't want to get unstuck.

I loved Marty in that crazy get-up he wore for "What I like about you"... he was absolutely insane!! It totally fit that performance Also loved the pink & black "Trash & Vaudeville" T-shirt he wore... when it was with the white pants singing for his life in the bottom three But the best one for me was the total look for "I Alone"... down to the barefeet, and black toenail polish...

I agree, Rockfan. He can do no wrong ... and sometimes he comes up with things I've never seen before. Lately, I've noticed he wears two belts. Must be a goof on the whole "butt crack" thing.
