Problem at WCCC 106.9 in CT

Ok, I sent in a request to

and received this response:

I'm sorry we're not playing requests from this band.

I responded with this message:

Ummm....why? It's a new song. It hasn't been out but a couple weeks.

Too many street team/fan club members are e-mailing us. It's annoying.

We've added the record and we'll see how it does, but when street teams
are too aggressive, we tend to stop playing things from that band, so
please pass it on.

This was the first time I had *ever* requested at this station! What do we do?

They should know by now that it is the fans that make or break the success of a band...........

Radio stations, music television stations, record companies etc........should know this.......if they do not.........they are idiots too..........

This is just one bozo trying to flex his spongy cranium muscles.........

I'd just move on......maybe quote your email to other radio stations...lol....that would get them.........

That is such a load of crap - to put it lightly! First off not only do they have a website, they have a form for listeners to put in their requests and yet they will insist on only accepting requests for certain bands? What's that about? If they received a large number of requests for Foo Fighters, Avenged Sevenfold or a similar band they would totally not question those requests.

Anyway, perhaps you should let them know that the band will be in CT on Thurs and they should go check it out for themselves to see the how many hometown Hammerheads there are!!!!


BTW - CT Hammerheads when you request make sure to let them know that you are a fan and that you just want to hear the song on your station. If they intend to ignore you all then don't support the station or it's sponsors.


And to the everyone else - on the flip-side DO support the stations in your area playing Trees and their sponsors if possible.

I sent this request to KISS 95.7:

"Hi, I made the mistake of requesting a song at 106.9. They told me that they were getting too many requests from fans and it was "annoying." They wouldn't play my song. Can you please play "Trees" by Marty Casey & Lovehammers for me? For Valentine's Day?"

Perhaps a nice note of concern to the advertizers is in order.

They might not want to pay a station for advertizing when the station responds to their listeners in such a fashion, basically driving them to 'change the channel.'

just wondering if you ever got a response from 95.7?

I put a valentine's day request for hubby on 105.9 The River , they read the dedication and played Trees. They also gave the band a little promo saying that they would be a Mohegan sun with inxs thursday.

I spoke to someone at Mohegan Sun last night who said she heard Trees on the radio. I almost fell out of my seat! Not sure if she heard my request or if they have been playing it more. They do not have a music log.

I'm giving 106.9 some time to settle down before I get in touch with the d.j again.

Just wanted to let you know,I checked out the WCCC site and looked at the music log. "Trees" was played at 2:50am Friday so maybe you guys are gradually getting to them. I'm a newbie so I guess I should have started there to introduce myself but it's late and I had to pass this on.

Yes, 106.9 is playing Trees in the early morning hours (usually between 2 am and 4 am). But, the DJ's had begun responding to e-mail requests in a very negative fashion. We decided to give this station a little break, so as to not aggrivate the DJ's to the point that they won't play MCLh at all. Velvet has had some good communication with DJ Mike K. He is the one who got Lh on the playlist and was very honest about how the radio business works.

I was in touch with dj Mike K this afternoon. He emailed asking why I was trying to get them on the radio when they were on TV all summer or something to that effect. I told him that I love their station and thought they would be open to helping get them on the air and heard by many. Then apologized for bothering him
This was his response.

Please don't misunderstand me, you haven't bothered me. I sometimes
wonder what the motivation is for the street team. Please understand
that we get hit with these emails all the time from a bunch of different
bands so after a while you take them for granted and sometimes they can
backfire for the band.

Imagine everyone on the staff getting an email a day from the same
listeners asking for the same things. That happens quite often and many
of us end up not wanting to do anything for that band because the street
team gets out of control. I don't want to see that happen for you.

I like the song and I am the one that makes the decision as to weather
we play it or not so feel good that we are on it. I hope to keep it on
for a long time. Feel free to check in as much as you like...or almost
as much as you like.
