OK you guys I have had enough of this. I am not going to be mean but I am sick of the run around. I just called KS95 in Minneapolis and they told me they would never play Marty Casey & Lovehammers ever. I asked the guy why and he had no good answer at all. I said don't you care about what your listeners think? He said yes we do but he does not have any authority over what gets played. I said well is there someone I can talk to who does. He was just putting me off after that. I am just so irritated right now about this. I am not going to be mean but I sent an email to the producer talking about how when I was a kid and I would call in and request music they would play whatever I wanted and how I have been a long time listener. I also asked who the owner was. I have been in situations like this before and the owner of the company want's to please the customer. I will not stop until I talk to whoever it is. I will not be mean but I will not back down. The guy was such a jerk to me tonight and that only motivates me more. I figure what is there to lose. They already said they will never play there music. I will get to the top and they will not hear the end of it. I always go to the top and it has never failed me yet.

I know you are frustrated. Sometimes people can be hard to deal with... but why not try a different approach... maybe kill the guy with kindness instead. You know what they say....you get more flies with honey. Send him some home baked goodies....or a bottle of wine or liquor....or a pizza or something that you can have delivered or take there yourself with a friendly note attached asking politely for your request.
It can't hurt.... at the worst he isn't playing the song anyway.... at the best, he might.

I know several people who work at radio stations - and while there are some that play listener requests - there are an awful lot that really don't have control over what goes on the air because they are purchasing satellite feeds that go out over the air ---
mchell - I think you're on the right track - find out exactly how things are done at your local station, contact the person who has decision-making authority - see if there is anyway to send your request on up the pipeline for consideration.
Good luck, CJ Depoe Bay Oregon

My best friend's sister is engaged to a DJ here and she has tried and tried to push LH in their direction. He, from what I understand, is on our side but says he has no control over it. Most of the time the DJ's are not even in the studio when they are on the air. It is just a bunch of pre recored crap and all they do is push the play button. So, I on a daily basis send an e-mail to the program director asking them to play MCLH TREES! I have not heard anything at all from the man but I still do it... everyday. I am sure he just deletes my e-mails now when he sees they are from me but hey, I am still trying. And yes, it does get frustrating. But remember what Marty said "Persistence. Resistance. One man (or woman) can make a difference!" Don't give up girl and I wont either!

OK when I was having my tangent Friday trying to request "Trees" I also emailed a bunch of radio stations. I got a response from one of them. Here it is. I had told her that I used to request songs at that station when I was a teenager and they would always play them for me. So that is what she is talking about when she says I thought my request was being played.
<<Hey Michelle, I'm sure you spoke to some bitter dj who would rather not be stuck in the studio on a Friday night. He can't tell you wether or not we'll play it because most djs these days have no say in what songs get played. In fact, I have NEVER in my radio career been in control of the playlist. So, I just told you a secret to the industry. There is no such thing as a request. Chances are you just THOUGHT your request was being played when reality is you likely requested a song that was coming up anyway. (Don't mean to burst your bubble.) Don't worry about Marty. He'll find his way on the charts sooner or later. The good ones always do! Staci>>

Thank you for sharing that e-mail with us, mchell. That certainly is an eye-opener.
It also puts certain responses I got into a different light.

yeah, that is something I pretty much always knew because usually when I have called in to request something it was something off the wall that has not been played in years and they never play it. BUT.... if there is enough people asking for a certian song, it will be added to a playlist. Just in this case, so many stations are so defiant about it becasue it is "from a reality show".

I have read some articles/reports about the radio system of today, and it pretty much is that DJs no longer have control of what gets played. The parent company (whoever owns the radiostation-Clear Channel, etc) gives the radio station a set playlist that is programmed into a computer and cannot be changed. That playlist is what gets played. Very few DJs (especially on the larger stations) get to pick what they play.
So the question is how do we get MC&Lh on the playlist? The answer is through sales. We have to get more copies of the album bought/downloaded. If Lh can make it onto the charts and have a strong/consistent presense there, then we will start hearing them on more radio stations. I'm going to be giving some more copies of the album away at Easter. We've got to get more people hooked.
I'll try to find the links to those articles and post them.

That is quite sad about the radio stations not playing requests. We have a station here in NZ MoreFM who have a request day each Friday where you can request whatever you want and if they have it they will play it plus an hour each day at lunchtime where they only play music from the 80's and 90's and you can request songs then as well, they are really good at playing it if they have it.
Now that the cd is being released in NZ I am hoping that they will start playing Trees.
