Recently (on Dec. 10th) Marty was interview by Amy Maginnis-Honey of the Solana County paper, The Daily Republic. This intervew was published today in that paper. This was to publicize the upcoming ARF Rocks benefit. Ms. Maginnis-Honey emailed me this morning to let me know the article was up.

'Rockstar: INXS' -- Casey brings band to benefit in Walnut Creek
By Amy Maginnis-Honey | DAILY REPUBLIC | December 27, 2007 16:14
WALNUT CREEK - Marty Casey is probably one of the more, if not the most, humble reality TV stars.
He was the overwhelming audience favorite (75 percent) to become the next singer for the Australia-based band, INXS. Rather, Casey finished second in the 2005 CBS series 'Rockstar: INXS.'
Like 'American Idol's' Chris Daughtry (who was one of 2007's most popular recording artists despite not winning the competition), Casey is grateful for the exposure the show gave him and feels his life was truly enriched by it.
When asked to describe his life, in five words or less, since the show, Casey unpretentiously replied; 'Is this my life?'
Casey, who earned a degree in finance and also worked as a real estate appraiser before becoming a full-time rock star, was on his first-ever solo acoustic tour when he chatted with the Daily Republic by phone from Florida. It happened to be his first day off in five days and he was looking forward to dining at a cousin's restaurant in the area.
He will bring his band, the Lovehammers, with him next week for Tony LaRussa's annual Animal Rescue Foundation benefit.
Here's what Casey, 34, shared.
AH: How long have you been doing the benefit with Tony La Russa and why?
MC: This is our second year doing it. We got connected in early 2006 when Tony LaRussa's wife came to see one of our shows. We are huge baseball fans and Tony managed the White Sox (a favorite of Casey's since both the team and he have connections to Chicago.) Last year we got to play with Santana, Journey and Tesla. For us it was one of the most amazing experiences we've had.
AH: Have you watched the show ('Rockstar: INXS') yet?
MC: Nope.
AH: Do you plan on watching it?
MC: In another decade with my kids.
AH: Why wait?
MC: Because I know what really happened. I was there. It's like looking at pictures of your wedding - you were there but it doesn't really match the moment.
AH: Are you still recognized as much as you were right after the show ended?
MC: You're never going to be as recognized as being on national TV three days a week for 15 weeks. I'm still recognized.
AH: What do you think of TV launching the career of musicians, particularly 'American Idol?'
MC: It doesn't matter in terms of music. When you find a break, that's what you take. I'm happy I got a break.
AH: Name the musicians in your dream band that aren't members of the Lovehammers.
MC: He's dead, but John Bonham on drums, Nicky Sixx on bass, Jimi Hendrix on guitar, Angus Young on rhythm guitar and Jim Morrison can sing and I can do background vocals.
AH: You are on your inaugural solo acoustic tour right now. What's it like being out there on stage by yourself? Why are you doing the solo acoustic tour?
MC: I like to challenge myself. This is something I've never done before. It's very easy to step on the stage and do back flips and launch lightning bolts from my fingers. This is a personal, sincere and honest show. It's all about the songs. It's just nice people listening. They get off just as much as me doing back flips. It's just a guilty pleasure.
AH: Name one song you can't get out of your head these days.
MC: 'Open Your Eyes' by Snow Patrol.
AH: Anything else you'd like to share?
MC: When you go to the show you will see exactly what this man (LaRussa) is doing. He spends a major part of his disposable income on this. Everything he ever does goes to ARF. No one knows that. The man is successful. What he does is very convincing. It convinces me I need to do something substantial with my life. Tony LaRussa is a shot in the arm of life.
AH: Do you have pets?
MC: It wouldn't be fair now. But when I get married and have a family, I'm looking forward to having a bunch of cats, dogs, gerbils, fish and turtles.
AH: Did you grow up with pets?
MC: I grew up with many pets. We had a family dog. We hat pet rabbits, gerbils, guinea pigs, fish and birds.
AH: Did you have a favorite pet?
MC: Come on. All your pets are your favorites. My least favorite was Domino, the dog, who always ran away. (The dog would always return home eventually.)
