Hey Girls & Guys, I wonder if you can help. I'm going to see INXS in June & figured that might be a perfect chance to let others in the UK know that Marty is around and recording & doing a damn good job at it Where would you suggest is a good place to start? Knowing that Lovehammers stuff isn't available in shops over here, only on line. Anyway, any suggestions would be useful Hopefully with enough help maybe Marty & the guys might visit us in the UK

The most effective method that helped MCLH become popular in the Philippines is when I gave all the major FM stations a copy of their CD and kept on following up about it. Resulted in 5 stations playing different songs. Number one hits. Official CD release. Sony-BMG Philippines acknowledge the radio play MCLH got--my evidence they should release the CD. However, this is unheard of, that a fan gets to make such an influence. This wouldn't have happened in most countries around the world.
I also gave magazines each a copy of MCLH's debut album. Because of MC's stint on rockstar, the 3 music magazines also published the band--upon my requests to write about them and they were so kind to accommodate.
I don't know how it works in the UK, if radio stations allow ordinary citizens to push for their favourite band. In the Philippines, radio stations invite guests who aren't "stars". I've been interviewed on the radio 8 times about the band. It's more open and relaxed there. I can even submit videos to music stations here without having to officially work for the band.
I heard in the US and Canada, they don't entertain "fan" submitted material. They all have to be from the label or official promotions team of an artist to be even considered.
Back then, DJ's used to Gods (US) and had the power to really help artists get heard. If you give them a song, they play it. Now, most places, it's very corporate. You just can't hand in your favourite band's CD to radio stations in North America. Except in the Philippines. We are also a small nation so maybe that's why it was easier for me to do a lot of things just as fan and also because our culture here. You don't always have to be a "star" or have some fancy title to get things done.
Just as a friendly advice, I would caution to hand out street teaming materials in other bands concerts because, it could back fire and people there might find it off putting. The band having the concert might find it annoying too. That's just my opinion. I never went this route because I just didn't feel it was appropriate to go into another band's concert and street teaming a different band. To me, it's not respecting that band's "time and space" for their own concert.
Try checking out the procedures of radio stations and music stations in your country. See if they actually allow "fans" to push for an artist they want to see.
Order CDs and give them to friends. If you have friends/relatives that are in the music industry in the UK, might be easier to have them push the band than yourself because I think in the UK, the way they handle music might be the same as in the US/'Canada.
All the other ideas that on the 101 Ways to Street Team are very helpful.
I hope this helps you.
Thank you.

Thanks for that Darna - the problem with the UK music scene is it's in a weird place over here! As far as our local radio station is concerned, that's a really good idea! I'll give that a go, I hadn't thought of that. I know what you mean about other bands not appreciating it, we have that problem just trying to get people to come to Art's gigs! Then people moan there's no "metal" in our part of the UK I'll keep all these things in mind - thanks everyone.

Here's my two cents. If you don't feel comfortable talking up "another" band at a concert, that's cool....What do most fangirls and fanguys do before a show?.....They meet up somewhere do they not? OR go someplace "after" the show together. In those places would be a good venue to place table flyer's, business cards, and talk up the Lovehammers at....Allot of people recognize Marty Man's face, put those pictures of him with the boyz on seats, on tables, ask the bar keep to pass them out with the drinks. Everyone is usually very open to hearing about Rock music before or after a show! But yes, look at Ceeje 101 ways to street team for more cool ideas....Good luck...Nancy

Denise, her daughter-in-law, and I all street-teamed for Lovehammers right outside of the venue (and put up magnets and flyers inside) where INXS was playing in May of last year. This was after Lovehammers had already left the INXS tour. It was a VERY successful night of street-teaming! I would say that at least 80% of the people knew who Marty was BUT didn't know he had a band, and they took the materials. Some even squealed and snatched them out of our hands! We had 100 sampler CDs of Lovehammers songs, probably at least that many magnets, and loads of flyers. EVERYTHING was gone before INXS started. We even put magnets and flyers on the backs of the restroom doors, and they were all taken, too. You can leave stacks of half-sheet flyers in restrooms very easily, and people seem to take those more often than full sheet flyers. Also, concentrate the majority of your supplies for putting in restrooms on the women's rooms. Women are more likely to take flyers, because they have purses. This comes from direct observation during street teaming. If there are poles or bulletin boards for posting flyers near the venue, be sure to do that. People will see them while walking to the venue. It surprises me how much people seem to love magnets. I guess they have some substance to them, and people feel like they are getting something valuable. People have also street-teamed with stickers, matchbooks, temporary tattoos, pens, bumper stickers...... Get creative, and have fun!
