Okay. Here's my first 'new thread'. One of my fave bands of all time is The Tragically Hip. I've only seen them perform once, but I've got all their music. The Hip have had a dedicated fan base in Canada for like 20 years. They put on a mind-blowing show. The lead singer, Gord Downie, is a crazy-assed showman. He doesn't climb the rafters like Marty, but he's riveting to watch. He's one of the best song writers ever. Any other Hip fans out there?

Hey redjasper, I just recently saw them in concert at Antone's at SXSW here in Austin, TX. They were interesting. The lead singer hops alot and he sure was pretty nice posing with his fans while performing. I have some pics, of them. Hi Rachael (Isa), So you're from Austin - cool. I've been wanting to go there and check out blues music. I'm a huge Stevie Ray Vaughan fan, and I love-love-love Texas blues! How did you find out about The Hip? I know they're on this massive North American Tour right now. I missed the local concerts here, but I hope to catch them sometime. They often do impromptu benefits in the Kingston area. I live about 25 minutes from Kingston. Last fall I saw Gord Downie do a solo gig in an old church in Kingston. It was part of a fundraiser for Lake Ontario Waterkeeper. He's an honorary patron and he's definitely an environmental activist when it comes to protecting Lake Ontario. Another reason he's one of my faves!
redjasper, cf, is the one that told me about Tragically Hip and they happened to be in the club that one of my fav guitarist was playing earlier in the evening. TH was the last band to play. They had a 16 song set list and I stayed through about 11 of their songs. The lead singer split his pants while performing on stage. He mentioned it and kept on a going. He also sweats tremondously. I was front row. Getting pics now to post. [/IMG]
Pics!! Oh wow!! I'll owe you one... I love me some Gord Downie. Mainly because he's sooooo weird. Sexy weird. And sweaty, yup.

redjasper, you have Gord pegged good. He was friendly. Not sure if that pic is before or after he split his pants, he hopped around on stage alot. thank you! thank you! thank you! Gord D. is the ultimate frontman, much like our Marty. Aside from squeeing about him, I'm absolutely in love with Rob Baker's hair. The longest, silkiest I ever seen I think. I hope he never cuts it. He's so quiet on guitar. What did you think of him?

[/IMG] I have to tell you that I AM TOTALLY ADDICTED TO LOVEHAMMERS... [/IMG] ..so I don't have much squee for any other band. Well, with the slight exception of Kenny Wayne Shepherd. [/IMG] That dudes red shirt looked like one that I had owned. [/IMG] But I think there were a couple of songs that I liked.
I'm hooked on LH too. For sure. One of my problems is that I'm always obsessed about too many things. I don't get anything productive done because I'm in fan mode constantly. (Don't get me going about Tiger Woods!) My fortune cookie from last Saturday night should guide me. It said, 'You can't ride in all directions at one time.' It's a sign. Choose LH. Choose Marty.

I have all their CDs and I'm so into them. Have you heard their latest, World Container? Awesome. I don't know the Practically Hip. Tell me more. I came so close to meeting Gord Downie last September. He was in Kingston for a solo performance and he ended up at the Grad Club at Queen's. I went to the solo gig but I was really sick. I ran into a friend who asked me to go to the Grad Club and I said no. I could have sat there for an hour having a beer with Gord Downie. Maybe it'll happen someday. Oh, I fixed the links to two pics I had posted the other day. Check them out.

Hi redjasper, I have yet to see the hip live. last summer they did come to our local arts festival for a FREE concert beleive it or not and we were on vacation at the time, in Canada! We could have traveled to Belleville ( I think thats where they were) but it would have been a bit of a drive so I will have to wait and hope!
I do have World Container. I pre ordered it from Maple Music. So I was one of the lucky ones to have it early , they released it in the states in March sometime, but I already had mine! I have quite a few of their other cd"s too.
The Practically Hip are a tribute band to the Tragically Hip. They play alot in the Hamilton, Guelph, Toronto area. My friend goes to see them once in awhile and says they are really good. They do have a website if ya want to check them out.
That sucks that you were sick that night and missed out on having a beer with Gord.
Its nice to know that there are other Tragically Hip fans out there! Last year I asked over at lovehammers.com if there were any hip fans and really didn't get much response.

Some Hip unplugged. I saw them in Montreal a couple of years later, which was my one and only Hip viewing. Tragically. ca.youtube.com/watch?v=KaOeKMaqnr0My one and only Hip hearing was in Ottawa. I heard them from my balcony in July 2002. That was cool. Hmmmmm, why wasn't I at Bluesfest? Must have been sold out. Yeah, that's it...
