Great pictures, DG! You win the "What I did on my summer vacation" contest!
Is there anything that we could send to the kids in the village (books, toys, school supplies, etc.)?

Absolutely Shy.. I'm planning on sending some books, but they can use anything.. crayons, chalk, paper is a biggie... I can check w/ Kari too about some needs they may have. I know they love balloons too!

Thank you for starting this thread! I'm so eager to hear your stories and see photos of where you were. We were very greedy and missed you while you were gone....Nancy was right. We couldn't see the forest for the trees and have a true understanding of the depth of what you were doing, and experiencing!
I can't wait to hear & see more.

I'm really nothing special. BELIEVE ME.. I made an idiot of myself everywhere I went, but that was the fun part. The amazing people are the people I met. Ok.. so I showed you the bridge picture earlier.. Well, this is the actual bridge that they are rebuilding. Jesse leads all these construction projects throughout several villages. See if you can tell which one he is. But he's not the real boss All of this is done with a generator and manual labor. The guys stop on poles in the middle of the water to help put the guide lines across. This wood used (I'm not sure how to spell it.. sounds like quee lah) is very very heavy. These guys carried it across that bridge in the top picture without faltering at all.

What you can't see in the above picture is that these guys carved a beautiful set of stairs into the dirt so that getting down to the bridge would be easy. This is all in preparation of the arrival of Jesse's tractor which will make mowing the airstrip easier. Later (in a month or so) I will have pictures of the completed bridge it is gorgeous.

By the way, there are many stories about how the LHs played a part of the summer. I am after all a total fangirl at heart. I'll say here and now that the support of this site helped and encouraged me when things were hard.
I will also so that if not for the contributions of chitowngirl, Penny, and Doc that I would have been miserable. They were with me in various ways all summer long.
I did sing "The Riddle" while walking down a bush path.

Bless my stupid spacy little heart, I hadn't spotted this until now!
Not that it matters-there are no words for those pictures and your stories. Thank you, DG, for sharing. I highly doubt I could have left everything and done something like that.

I just realized, look across the stream to the other side of the bank and you can see the steps that they made in the dirt. These guys are amazing.
