Thanks CJ...it does help...thanks so so much. Star...his dad is as focused and dedicated as Mitch. I know he loves him, but he has to think of how much more that an education would help his son's future.

Thanks Fly...thats my stance too. I let my high school education fall by the wayside and that has been the only regret of my life. I am forty in a few weeks and am in my 4th year at university doing what I should have done all those years ago I almost quit school for a "maybe" last year, but when I realized that it wasn't what was best for me right then, I passed it up. I think a lot of people don't really think of what's best for them. Its not easy, but who ever thought life was by definition easy is a moron.

I want to work in band management. Kelley and I had a talk in January about some things, and I really, really want to analyze those kinds of things for a living. And the music industry isn't all that different than politics, if you think about it. It's all politics I think! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D How true.

While it is important to support our children in their dreams, I feel it is even more important to help them develop as sophisticated human beings. Even if he were to be a successful racer, it would not necessarily make him a deeper person. Possibly the question shouldn't merely be "should I make my son continue school?"...but rather "what can I do so my son will get the most out of school?". I am with you there Iwo...and for the past few years that strategy has worked. He is not focused on school at all...and he has to have at least 12 days off per month now his race calander has become so full A friend of mine is dealing with similar issues with a daughter who is a world class gymnast. The daughter has such talent and was in sports illustrated at 12. And is prepping for a possible Olympic bid. I would never say education isn't important but some children have talents that just stand out and you feel like you are trying to stop a freight train when you try to direct them to a traditional education route. I know that's how my friend feels with her gymnast daughter.

Jet, have you thought about a private tutor? I know child actors have tutors who come and teach them while they're on set.

Star...his dad truely beleives you learn from life and not from books. Yeah...And as a girl that has fallen on her pretty little a** in life so many times...Life doesn't always teach you what you need to know to make a living. Education is so important. I have street smarts...but my education is priceless. I just don't want your son to regret anything. 15 may seem old enough to him, but he still has so much life ahead of him. What about just being a kid? funny you should say that Star...out of all the kids he competes against he is the one who is still the kid. They all have pushy dad's...and Mitch's dad always says...the fire will really hit him soon and thats when we will start the training. And this past few months the fire really has hit him. He has always wanted it...but the intense competitiveness has just kicked in and I so want him to have his dream... ...but not at the expense of his education. Knowledge is power...education opens doors I never dreamed possible...and I want that so much for him too...

I think you are old enough to know you don't know. For me it was at that 14 or 15 year old age where I was really a brat who thought she knew everything. By the time I hit college I realized that my parents were pretty smart! And I knew nothing!

Why do we have to fall, before we can see? I pray that your son really knows what he is doing. Being driven is a gift, but also keeping a open mind to the world that is all around us...that it what make's all the difference in the world.
I may be a 'housewife" right now, but I have a very strong education behind me. I know that I can decide to change and that my education will take me to new places.
Your son deserves the best...

Jet, have you thought about a private tutor? I know child actors have tutors who come and teach them while they're on set. I am looking into that now Fly. I did the Distance Education thing with him for a few years, but it is SOOOO hard to be the teacher when your the parent as well. He gets enough social interaction from the kids and adults he's with at race meets. But being at school has taught him so much in the way of handling difficult situations like respect for authority (Lord knows I had none at his age), when its ok to be a smart-ass...stuff like that

Its true-once you hit college, you're like, "Damn, there's a LOT out information out there." It makes you feel a little small and insignificant, really.
