At 15 I was a lost kid...To the world I was focused and on the inside I was a complete mess. Those are the hard years...then you go into your 20's and that is when you really find out who you are.

I think you are old enough to know you don't know. For me it was at that 14 or 15 year old age where I was really a brat who thought she knew everything. By the time I hit college I realized that my parents were pretty smart! And I knew nothing! When I was 15 I told my mother she had nothing left to teach me and left home... Ouch how life is biting you back now--your son is 15. I can see now why this would be even harder for you.

Jet, have you thought about a private tutor? I know child actors have tutors who come and teach them while they're on set. I am looking into that now Fly. I did the Distance Education thing with him for a few years, but it is SOOOO hard to be the teacher when your the parent as well. He gets enough social interaction from the kids and adults he's with at race meets. But being at school has taught him so much in the way of handling difficult situations like respect for authority (Lord knows I had none at his age), when its ok to be a smart-ass...stuff like that Its true...school does do that for you. I was the model student, even if on the weekends I spent in an anarchic cesspool. I knew when to keep my mouth shut and head down.

It makes you feel a little small and insignificant, really. EXACTLY!! I almost felt like my life began when I started Uni a few years ago and still do. Uni has been one of the best and most eye-opening experiences in my life...an experience I beleive I would have wasted when I was younger

I almost felt like my life began when I started Uni a few years ago and still do. Uni has been one of the best and most eye-opening experiences in my life...an experience I beleive I would have wasted when I was younger Today in class, I made the comment to a classmate about the prof about how I felt I wasn't learning from this guy, that he was only telling us half of what he knows. Then the prof told us a story about how he reconstructed an ancient sundial that had been broken that no one else had bothered with for 100 or so years. Foot, meet mouth.

Don't let your past haunt you Jet. This is different. I know that you are nothing like your parents, and you can handle this.
What was the final outcome of your family discussion? Did everyone agree or is it still open for debate?

Fly--
You can start doing some music/band related things while you do college. Does your college have a college radio station? There lots of music contacts to be made in college radio--I was the general manager of my college station and we promoted a lot of concerts, I had lots of band friends then. Or maybe you could try to get a local radio station music internship--which would help you get an insiders view of radio. Or find one of the concert promoters in town and see if they have an internship. There's so many things you can do when you are in college--people are always looking for free labor!
Okay I'm taking off the career counselor hat and stepping back! LOL

Maybe its different for the course I'm doing Star...I will never forget one of my core units - Recreational & Commercial Fisheries Management. The professor is head of school and now I am happy to say a friend as well - he started our lecture with a clip from the film Thin Red Line with Sean Penn yelling, "It's all about property and then he went on to tell us the worlds fisheries are all . I learnt more in his class than any other class yet.

Did everyone agree or is it still open for debate? Star is right--but I find it really interesting that these patterns exist. We make a decision at a certain age and then we are presented with a family member doing something similar and it resonnates deeply.

In my view, and this could just be my punk rock cynicism, but a lot of what's on the radio is what the moguls WANT played, not necessarily what's best in music today. I think that the interet is going to do for bands what touring did for Nirvana and the Velvet Underground. I just need to find my "in."

Think and sleep...then make the decision.
