ok I literally just walked into hotel and am standing in lobby to type this-- so details will have to wait, but LH were fantastic tonight at Joe's -- it was AMAZING to be ina crowd that knew every word and went nuts for teh band. AND THEY ROCKED -- even played Garbage, Eurythmics, Stones. plus Rain, Riddle, Trees, Straight as an Arrow, Hold On, Throw my Head, REAL MAN, This Town, Ring of Fire -- so many. Marty insane -- all over the place (jeans khaki shirt, black T, black converse.) He climbed onto the overhead pipes and hung upsie down to sing Paint it Black -- walked thru crowd, etc. More when I am back in HK. Just want to say THANK YOU HAMMERS THANK YOU chitownchick and THANK YOU DLH!!! THINKING OF YOU, AUSSIES! chk

What an absolutely amazing concert! I have to say it was better than the Metro show. The place was packed. I was in a group with Treebee, reddgt, Tara, UandMe, Angie and SHR. They were all at the rail. I was directly behind Treebee and we were just between Dino and Marty. I was even closer for this show than the Metro show. It was crowded but people weren't squished like sardines like at the Viper room last weekend. I also had a PERFECT view of Bobby - had to keep the squee factor down, though, since hubby was with me.
Klly, I'm sorry I didn't call you for your cellcert during the first 2 songs. They had announced prior to the show that pictures would only be allowed during the first 3 songs so I was snapping pictures like crazy at the beginning. Everyone continued taking pictures throughout the whole show once we realized that no one was telling us to stop. Hubby and I took a ton of pics and hopefully some came out nice.
The show started with Straight as an Arrow - they rocked the house. The energy level was high throughout the entire show. Marty was all over the stage during this concert. He went into the crowd during The Tunnel, making it all the way to the back of the room and standing on the bar in the back. During Paint it Black, Marty climbed to the overhead pipes/rafters above the crowd and then hung upside down. He sang the refrain while hanging upside down. Marty then brought himself up and lowered himself into the crowd.
Marty made a point of telling the crowd that they were the Lovehammers, not Marty Casey & Lovehammers. He also said how much they love being back in Chicago. He asked for a raise of hands for those there for the first time, new hammerheads, old-timers, etc. We met the guy standing next to Treebee at the rail who has been a hammerhead for 9 years and has seen over 100 shows. He is thanked in the liner notes of the new album which is pretty cool. Marty made a point of saying how grateful they are for all the support and how much they appreciatiate all the fans, even one day old fans.
Here are some more memorable events for me:
1. This happened shortly after the beginning of the show. Angie threw a personalized hammerhead thong at Dino which he promptly hung around his microphone stand where it stayed for the whole show.
2. During Clinic, Marty looked directly into my eyes while singing a part of this song - my knees did go a little weak.
3. During Eyes Can't See (I think this was the song), Marty stopped for a moment during the performance to talk to someone in the crowd (I think it was someone he recognized). When they resumed the song, Bobby looked like he was freaking out trying to figure out how to jump in - which he figured out and the rest of the song continued to rock.
4. Billy smoking his cigarette while playing and just looking like he was having a great time. A couple of times he came over to Dino's side of the stage and the 2 of them jammed together.
5. Marty's shirt was off during the encore performances. Rockbeast, Marty was wearing your dogtag once again and Jezza, I think Marty was wearing your bracelet on his left wrist (yes, I was that up close and personal).
This is the set list as best as I can remember (it's probably not in the correct order):
Straight as an Arrow Call of Distress Real Man Ultrasound Clinic Hold On The Riddle I'm Only Happy When it Rains/Here Comes the Rain Again medley Eyes Can't See The Tunnel Rain on the Brain Paint it Black Trees Ring of Fire
Encores were Throw My Head and This Town.
I am eternally grateful to my hammerhubby for making this evening possible for me. To end my evening on a perfect note, my hubby caught one of Bobby's drumsticks!

Thanks chk and Chitown for your very quick posting. Brilliant that you thought of us back here at the board. Looking forward to seeing all the pics! Chk, we're all so happy for you and Den. How is she? We missed you both very much over at the Aussie thread - things have been a bit quiet since the two of you left for Chicago.

Wow - ChiTownChick and chk - great reviews - and excellent details...the ultimate Lovehammer show=Chitown + Marty hanging upside down, somewhere. ;D (I looked all over when we saw them in Highland to see if there was anyplace Marty could hang, but sadly there was nothing. He did jump off the stage and run through the audience which was almost as much fun. Someday I'm going to hear them do Paint It Black.....

Oh my gosh, it is 3 a.m.--what a night!! My first LH concert! It was unbelieveable, and I do have pictures, but I guess will have to email them because I can't figure it out right now. Most of the pictures didn't turn out well--I'm only 5'1", and I was about half-way back, so it was hard to see a lot of the time. However, when Marty climbed onto the overhead pipes, he came out to right where we were standing and that's where he hung and then jumped to the floor, so those are the pictures I'm going to email. He jumped down about 2 feet in front of me and then was like a freakin' hurricane as he headed back up to the stage! As he came by, I put my hand out, as much to steady myself as to touch him (which I did), but I got caught in that hurricane and sort of got drug for a foot or so before I could get my footing. I thought I would end up on the floor! Now wouldn't THAT have been embarrassing!!
I have more to say about the evening, including having converted my friend CJ who I dragged along with me from St. Louis. And also about going out to leave and NOT finding my car!!!!! I have never been to this place before, and I parked in what looked like an open parking lot. There were no attendants in sight, no booths, etc. We came out to no car, in a strange city, had to figure out what happened, where it went, call, get a cab, pay $150 for my car (plus cab fare), and THEN had to ask the tow lot attendant where the hell I was and how the hell to get out of there because I had no idea . Welcome to Chicago! So my $15 Lovehammer tickets have now cost a small fortune!!
I need to go now and get a little sleep (we're in a hotel somewhere near Dwight) as we need to leave about 6 a.m. in order to get to work, etc. But I will write more later, and also get the pictures up on the site somehow.
Lovehammers ROCK!!
Linda
