Has anyone seen this issue? Page 132 - JD Fortune the New Lead Singer of INXS...specifically a Tim Farris quote: "In a funny way, says guitarist Tim Farris, runner-up, Marty Casey, reminded us a bit of Michael (Hutchence)," the frontman they lost to suicide in 1997. "But I had this feeling Michael would have wanted us to go with J.D." Very interesting comment.I have just written to People Magazine and requested that they run an article about Marty and the Lovehammers. Please join me and either email: editor@people.com or send letters to: Letters to the Editor, People, Time and Life Building, Rockefeller Center, New York, NY 10020 and tell them we want a story about Marty!!!!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Has anyone seen this issue? Page 132 - JD Fortune the New Lead Singer of INXS...specifically a Tim Farris quote: "In a funny way, says guitarist Tim Farris, runner-up, Marty Casey, reminded us a bit of Michael (Hutchence)," the frontman they lost to suicide in 1997. "But I had this feeling Michael would have wanted us to go with J.D." Very interesting comment. From what I have read about Michael, his personality off stage was alot like Martys seems to be. Then he went into his Sexaaay Michael mode on stage. Michael was also pretty straight forward about how he wanted to do things. Kind of like Martys "patiently controlling". Marty also, obviously, has the "it" factor Michael had as a performer. So I can understand what INXS is saying going by what I have read in the past about Michael. I kind of think INXS would have loved to have Marty as their lead singer, but after so much success in the past, they didnt want someone to come in and upstage them. That would have happened with Marty. Michael Hutchence was INXS in the past. I believe they picked JD because he would not upstage them. Some would say that means he fits in more. I just think INXS wants some of that limelight this go around. I truly think their choice will work against them. They are just not charismatic. Michael was what drew people to INXS. You could have interchanged any member of INXS when they were popular except for Michael. It is kind of like the band KISS (my wild side). Gene Simmons & Paul Stanley ARE KISS. The other two spots have been changed around and it doesnt really matter. But if Gene or Paul ever had left, KISS would have been over at that time. I also listen to RUSH. There isnt one member of the group (Geddy, Neal, or Alex) that could be interchanged. It would be over. RUSH knows that. They have said they would not go on if one of them decided to stop. That is what has made it hard for INXS. They lost the main link to their group. Actually, being the lead singer of INXS, at this point, isnt that great of a thing. No matter what happens, you will always be thought of as a replacement for Michael. There is no getting around it. Jon Stevens came in as a replacement for awhile. I heard he was cute & did a great job on the songs. He left because he didnt think INXS had anything to offer anymore (at least, at that time). Now Jon is always referred to as a replacement for Michael. I was excited to think Marty could bring a new, fresh flavor to the INXS songs. But, probably sooner than later, INXS will disband and I would hate for him to carry that stigma (is that the right word?) of being on the list of singers trying to fill Michaels shoes. It is great for someone like JD who probably wouldnt really get anywhere without being the new lead singer. But Marty doesnt need it. Plus, did you all see how much older INXS looks behind Marty. INXS isnt old. But Martys angel face & energy made them look that way.

Maybe what he's saying is that Michael Hutchence would have wanted them to go with JD, because MH (would have) inherently knew Marty would end up being a huge star without INXS, and that INXS should cut him loose to let him do just that. Lots of reading between the lines there. Thanks for printing that.

I had read in another interview where INXS was quoted saying that they did not want someone in the band that would steal the limelight. We know Marty would have done that!!!

Yes, that sounds right to me, too. Marty made it clear from the very beginning that if he joined INXS he would want to meet them half way. JD, on the other hand, will sing the songs but he poses no threat to their position.
They all knew that Marty's music is edgier than theirs. And I don't think they wanted a lead singer in the sense that they would wind up being his backup band.
Finally, to be a little snarky, nobody seems to have mentioned that "Pretty Vegas" was co-written by Andrew Farriss. It is not a completely original song ... unlike Trees!

I think INXS is over anyway...personally. They may still have some good music but Marty is in a class all by himself. They just seem so yesterday and JD is like nothing compared to Marty, of course I'm biased, hee hee.
With the Lovehammers Marty fits GREAT!

Yes, I totally agree about Pretty Vegas. When I raised it on the msn board a few weeks ago, the Marty bashers really let me have it. But it's true, JD was the only one who presented an original song that was co-written by INXS. Seems a bit biased to me.
I am really annoyed that People Magazine and Entertainment Weekly haven't run something about Marty.
I hope everyone will write to both magazines requesting an article.

I "hate" to say it, but INXS's energy was severely lacking on the night of the finale. The house band was/is so much better. And when one of the INXS guys did this little hip thrust thing upon getting onstage, I seriously almost lost a lunch I ate back in '92. It was so clear, upon seeing Marty literally in front of INXS on finale night, that he was just not right for their band INXS. The beautiful blond boy is way too luminous, too other-worldly, for them. They got what/whom they deserve.

When they started singing and one of them did a little knee bend stance we looked at each other and AT THE SAME TIME said "OH SHIT" They really did look like they were gonna get hurt up there. By the end of the performance we were both laughing hysterically! SOOO glad Marty is with LH! ;D

I dropped a note to People. If you guys come up with anyone else to write to, please post the email. I'll be glad to get Marty/Lovehammers in print even if I don't have anywhere to see them in concert yet!

Through the whole thing I kept thinking, How old are these guys?? And why is everyone who wants to be a lead singer like half their age? I think the whole concept of the show was great and without it INXS would just be another has been band. Now they MIGHT have a chance with their new album because they have a younger fresher face to sing it for them. I really think Marty is so much better off singing more up to date music with his own style.

cimee2 I have no idea how to do quote tags I just put them in italics YES, the Lovehammers are quite vibrant. INXS looked like dinosaurs behind Marty. you can always manually do quotes like this:

well it actually quoted me and I wanted to show the process. So I'll do in in words:
Put square brackets around the word quote, then type or paste the thing you are quoting, then end it by putting square brackets around /quote. That / closes the quote.
Or hit quote on the post you are quoting, and make sure you don't start typing your reply until you are past the /quote part.

To get back to the subject of Marty, I had to say - "that's it" when Jodi described him as "luminous"! He actually exudes an energy that INXS, god love 'em, don't have.
