RUNNER-UP Marty Casey narrowly missed out being the next lead singer of INXS, but don't feel too bad for the intense 31-year-old real estate appraiser

The band invited him and his own group, The Lovehammers, to be the opening act for its upcoming world tour.

Casey told TNP over the phone from Los Angeles: 'When they announced JD won, I was bummed because I thought I had it 100 per cent.

'But now my perception has changed completely. The universe gave me exactly what I needed the most.'

Along the way, he gained the love of many female fans, and claims to have received indecent propositions, mysterious hotel keys and phone numbers, and girls stripping half-naked in front of him.

In fact, Casey is so popular that the Filipino female journalists at the same teleconference were reduced to a screaming band. Serious questions about his career and craft were interrupted by random outbursts like 'Do you have a girlfriend?'.

Highly amused, Casey chuckled: 'I don't have a girlfriend.'

Hysterical whoops and applause followed.

And who is the lucky girl he sings about in Trees, Casey's infectious original pop-rock ditty which he premiered on Rock Star: INXS and will be releasing as a single?

He joked: 'Luckily for me, she kicked me out of her apartment and told me to figure out what kind of man I was.'

Marty is awesome and I meant what I said about recording with him (on a session level) but I don't think he is vocally right for INXS. He has more of a raw and alternative thing going on and I think he might actually be in a better position for a great career and future doing something else on his own. He toned down a lot of his stage theatrics throughout the course of the show and to be honest, I miss the scary conductor guy.
