Night Sjjo! I love the F'er Lookin' shirt. Its so pretty! I loved Moist's explanation behind it. To paraphrase: It's as if Sid is looking back, over his shoulder, at what is behind him -- the cancer and the treatments -- and leaving it behind going forward with a "NOW just watch me!" attitude toward the future. That's cool! Its a really gorgeous picture.

Bye sjjo! Good luck with the facebook. Key, my grandpa immigrated from russia when he was 17. Never spoke a word of his native language once he stepped foot on US soil. Really a shame. I find it extremely ironic that I am Russian but my blood can't take the cold. ;D

Interesting...he knew English before he came over? Night Key! Yes, to some degree. He was highly educated and actually sent over by both sides of his family ~paternal and maternal~ to avoid persecution and maintain the family line. I don't understand it completely but have his entire history someplace. I'd like to read it sometime. Either his mom or his dad was a professional pianist.

Very interesting...it is a little odd he never spoke Russian again, though. You'd think he'd at least want to once in awhile.

I would have thought he would want to speak Russian, as well. But there was a ton of political unrest when he was sent to the United States and most of his family was killed. I think he just felt like that part of his life was dead. I wish I could have asked him all about it but once I was old enough to understand, he suffered from Alzheimer's.

Oh, and it wasn't technically 'Russian' but rather his native dialect. So many regions were morphed or acquired that it gets very confusing.

Yeah, I can understand that. I knew a Russian family who moved over here, and the one boy was rather proud of the fact that his accent was so good. It would probably be hard to speak it without thinking about his family and being in pain.

Did you have a friend who was an exchange student? Was he from Ukraine? I know I am probably getting that wrong... I think it is hard for us, as Americans, to grasp what it might be like to be an immigrant in this country. Another interesting subject that we should save for another day. Can't have too many deep thoughts at one time. My grandfather still liked vodka, though. Every once in awhile, he would start mumbling. I'm sure he spoke Russian then! ;D
