If we're talking about the creative side, how many guitar/bass/drummer/singers do we have out in MC.org-land that are going batty figuring out how to play some Lovehammers songs? Seems like there oughta be a few of us around.....sharing our notes, chords, tabs and whatnot might be fun. And educational! Musically educational, right?

Well, the response being utterly underwhelming you'd think that NOBODY out in the world of the Hammered has any musical talent! I call on that, because of how many entries there were in the Trees Karaoke contest. So at least a few people can sing - no guitar players, bass players, drummers or singers? I don't believe it.......

This is what Billy sent me! Hope they help!
OK, here are the generic versions Eyes Cant See: Tuning CGCFAD....yes, its low! verse, i am laying the chords out as if they were in standard tuning. hope it makes sense? : D, A..(played on g string at 1st fret w/ open C & F), B(g string on 2nd fret w/ open C & F), C(g string 3rd fret + open C + 5th fret on F string). right before chorus play D C B A.. all picked as described above. CHORUS: open "D" chord w/ Low C & G strummed as well. F(barre CGC strings at 3rd fret), C(barre CGC strings at10th fret), G(barre CGC at 5th fret)
BRIDGE: all chords are barred on CGC strings!! "D" open CGC, F(3rd fret), E(2nd fret), G(5th fret). every fourth bar goes: D F E D...
Hopefully you can understand that......The chords are named wrong b/c the tuning is a full step down. For instance, the "D" is actually a "C" but is fretted the "D" chord a player would be familiar with.
Straight as an Arrow: Inrto and Verse C G G.. D..
pREcHORUS: played on A string C D D.. F.......G F D.. D
2nd prechorus is played twice as long
Chorus: G.. D.. A.. C PLAYED 3X....on the last bar it is played: G.. G F A.. and back to intro/verse
SOLO:
Use the same chords as verse and perchorus
OUTRO(la, la la la la part)
G.. G F A.. UNTIL END
Curious if you can make sense of that? let me know....thanks
I have to get around to tabbing them

Ahhhhh. this is the stuff I wanted to get started! Way to go group! Keep it up.... Very interesting, the above stuff. As several of you have obviously figured out, some stuff is played in different tunings. Often it is just tuned down 1/2 or so. If you work through what's on a recording it can drive you a llittle buggy but you can eventually come around to a pretty good approximation. For example, our two versions of Trees above reflect the 1/2 step variations. Gonna take a look at the listing above for Sleeper.....twas a bit different than what I was working on but I have an open mind. Of course, if Billy would pop in and drop a little more....

I really hate losing entire posts........ I was in the middle of responding to lmc and lost it. GRRRRR Anyway, lmc, I liked your take on "Clouds" more than what I was doing with it. I'm assuming that you're doing that D Asus Em7 G thing as open chord forms in the first couple frets? That makes for some easy, short finger moves that sound pretty good but comparing them to the recorded version on MCLH I had to tune down a whole step to be "close" (which I've noticed seems to work for the band on stage......as in "close enough for rock and roll".......they don't always play it the same way every time so we could probably say that there may not be one absolute *right* version). Another thing I liked about the way you did that is that you can drop a finger in or pull one out to get some tasty "Billy-isms" (watch him on stage sometime and concentrate on his left hand and you can see him do it........he's VERY good at it). I think you dropped "Clouds" at the point where the transition to the guitar solo comes in where there's another round of: Falling through your clouds I hope you catch me and transposing from my first workup into your version at the end of that line I went to a barred Bb on the 6th fret (ignoring that I'm playing tuned down a full step which was the closest match to the recording using your chords - so being in the right position and ignoring that the Bb is something else for a while) and the next line is: C D Maybe we can change ....where the C is a barred chord at the 8th fret and the D is a barred chord at the 5th fret but is the form of two fingers down on the 3rd and 4th strings only (some people do it with one finger if they can bend it down enough) at the 7th fret with the barred finger at the 5th. Hope that doesn't confuse too many people. Song goes on: Bb C D You look so scared now, don't pull the trigger Bb C D I'll never be back here Bb C Bb C Shoo shoo, away yeah.......shoo shoo, away yeah Bb C Shoo shoo, blow me away (guitar solo and no, I haven't fiddled with it yet ) ........with the rest of the song being back to the original chord progression off the tail of the solo. Try that and see if what I've written makes any sense to you and if not, we'll put our heads together and see if we come up with half a brain between us. ;D <<<<<<which might be what Billy does if he sees this and sez that I'm full of

Well, there has to be a way to keep the cotton pickin' chord names above the right spot in the lyrics but at 3:30 AM I don't feel like looking for it. Kinda makes it hard to share when the formatting you put in gets trashed in the final version...........

As for "Sleeper" I had a kinda different variation on that one too.......I'll play with lmc's and see what I think and maybe post what I've been playing with. I LOVE that song.....but like I said just above, at 3:30 AM I'm about played out.

I sat here one evening, picking out chords for Clinic.....maybe I wrote that work down. If I come across the paper I wrote on, I'll post what I did with the song.
Clinic's really an awesome song to soulfully pick...it's a clinic (strum chord)..and I'm in it (strum chord)
This stuff is very hard to describe with text. We may need to move over to youtube and go video.... ;D

And to go back to "Clouds" for a moment, I worked up an alternate set of chords for that middle before the guitar solo. You play the Bb barred at the first fret and then fingers down on the 3rd and 4th strings at the 3rd fret. This makes it easy to do the C and D as open chords.....well, "easy" is a relative term but I got it with only a few rounds of "finger training". BTW, confirmed that full step down tuning with my Korg tuner. Turns out that my original tuning was off a hair and that's why it didn't sound quite right - letting the Korg listen to each string and display the note and center up the LCD "needle" put me dead on with just a little tweaking to get the guitar in tune with itself. Gotta love a good crutch. While I'm short a bass player and drummer, I think first chance I get I want to lay down some tracks on this one with Audacity and see what I can do with it.

hammeredham lol That sounds more right than mine! Thanks! Well, as I think I said further back, "right" may be all relative. I'm just a pain in the rear on *wanting* to "get it right" but I sometimes have to settle on "close"..........and then later on when I am playing around with chord progressions and stuff I will hit something and SLAM! Like the Monty Python 16 ton weight got dropped on my head, and I go back to that song (whatever it was) and there it is. Inspiration or just dumb luck?

"Clinic" is on my radar screen but a few more songs down the list but yeah, absolutely, if you got some stuff written down bring it on! I started the thread so that Hammered musicians could share and together. If we get enough, maybe the guys would let us put it somewhere almost like a book. Share the music, share the love, ya know? I'm sorry that I didn't do up a video during the "Trees" Karaoke Contest but I was too busy trying to match Marty's high notes which requires some bodily pain ;D

More on "Clouds".....oh YEAH. I hauled out my Alesis Nanoverb and fed my Ovation through it in the Rotary speaker mode and got that mahhhvelous "other guitar" sound. And as I recall, Billy uses that on some other songs too. Too cool. Then also got out my Peavey T60 and worked a little through my MXR Distortion+ on the basic distortion and had some fun with that. Next to make some notes and try and pull it all together.
