I was flipping through the channels when I came across this skinny blonde guy on stage.
I paused to see what was up and as they say............the rest is history.
Been a fan of Marty ever since.
The performance blew me away and I said to myself..............this guy is gonna be HUGE in the music industry.
And every week after that first time I saw him perform he got better and better and better. He was/is too good for INXS in my opinion.
Now that I've befriended Marty and know more about him I know it for sure.
He is blessed with gifts that he is putting to good use.

When I first saw this, I was a fan of Marty's already, however, unfamiliar with the song at that time. I was just a little put off by the... ***ahem*** ... "screaming". I got over it.

Not only did he nail the song........his performance was totally bowie-esque but 100 times better. Awesome!!

Yes, I remember that too, Stil. I couldn't believe that. I wondered if they were watching the same performance.

INXS had to backpedal the next night because of all the outcry on the MSN board. I remember that many people were posting that INXS was out of touch, and old fogies. So they said they were just "testing" him. Yeah, sure..... My "doo doo detector" was going off big time on that one! For the longest time, whenever I watched that video, my hands shook from the sheer power of it. It is utterly awesome!

This performance delivered on so many levels. The story Marty told with his gestures, his stance, his costume and his delivery--- this song made the "Kool-Aid" connection legendary. Most people on RS just got up there and sang the song (and some of them very well) BUT Marty became the song. And this one is one of the best examples.
Modified to add: one little piece of MartyCasey.org trivia... this is the song and the week that inspired the creation of MartyCasey.org. After Marty ended up in the bottom 3 that week... that was the motivation needed to build the site.

I was unfamiliar with the song when I saw Marty perform it the first time. It didn't move me because I didn't know the song and I didn't "get it." After the show I went and listened to the LIVE version and then went to watch Marty's performance again. I definitely preferred Marty's version! By a day after first seeing it I was completely taken with Marty's version and performance of the song. I was horrified that he was in the bottom three that week, but when they gave him Don't Change I knew he was safe. Then after watching him sing Don't Change - knowing he was safe, I was glad he was in the bottom three so I could hear him sing one of my favorite INXS songs. He nailed it so beautifully!

Oh my gosh! I loved that performance. I thought he was amazing. He really gets into character. I though he nailed it and when ever INXS said - "stop yelling" or what ever they said i couldn't believe it! I was like- that is exactly what the song is. How the hell else would you sing it? I love it. Than is when I said- Give me the coolaide- MR Cultleader. I am in.

I ALONE for me is a piece of rock history. It is the measure for which all rock songs can be created. I fell in love with Marty and the song the first time I heard it on RB. They are one and the same. Must have listened to this more than any song , and I still get chills. Sometimes the world lets a genius get away and let us hope that Marty will someday get the honor and the love that he so deserves. I hear all of these second rate bands and lead singers and they do nothing for me and then I wonder if it is ME? ? Why hasnt some one come forward with something that will get Marty over the top? ? I am constantly amazed. Maybe the 16 year olds who love the Jones bros. are ruling the charts. Now I am over my rant.

Ceeje - thx so much for posting this now - a perfect time. I wasn't able to hear the song because, I think I told you, my damn chewed thru the speaker wires!!! But you know - it was just awesome and thrilling to watch it w/o sound. I mean really watch it!!

This will always be my favorite Marty performance, hands down. ever since I was about 8, I had had a recurring nightmare every night without fail. I was channel surfing and stopped just as this began. I was blown away, moved, full of emotions. And that night - I slept without a single dream, and its been the same ever since, all I ever need to cure the dreams is a 'lil' bit of Marty! I still don't understand it, but I'm grateful!

Hi Kelly!
I know you told me this was your favovurite performance but it means more to me now that I know why. I loved this one too. I had never heard the song before but the way Marty performed it was mesmerising and testament to his power as a charismatic rockstar. He just owned it and made us his. He was intense and powerful, confident and magnetic. I had never seen anything like it.
I was surprised to discover that he was in the bottom three after that. I truly do not believe it was a reflection on his performance though...except perhaps that it lead people to believe that he was safe and so they could vote for another favourite.
But it did lead to the opportunity to watch him blow Don't Change out of the water. Remember how powerful he was that night? I still get goosebumps when I watch him roar into the microphone like that...damn that man is hot.
