Go check out the news page at Marty's site. We were just sent in the mp3 of an interview done yesterday with Marty by Ruzz7 The HillJack (heard on The Boneyard on XM Satellite Radio). This is a nice long interview and there are some questions you have NEVER heard before (and a few you have, but with a different twist to them.) Thanks to Ruzz for sending it in! Enjoy! www.martycasey.com/news.htm

The Groovy Workshed. At first I thought he was more Hillbilly Jack, but he's fantastic. What a great interview. Oh yeah.....the BBQ sauce!

I can't believe Marty was thinking about just being a song writer for other groups. That would have been a huge loss to us! I want him writing AND singing! I wonder why the album's not coming out until march 2009 if it's already wrote and in the mix? Anybody have more knowledge about how that works and why it takes so long? -Nicole

My hubby is very knowledgeable about sound recording and audio work, and he used to be a DJ. Here's what he told me: Since the band said they just finished recording the album only days before hitting the road for the tour, the album will still need to be mixed and mastered. All this has to be scheduled with the people and facilities who will work on it. In modern studio recording, there can be as many as 128 to 256 tracks per song. They have to find the tracks they want to use for the finished recording, one song at a time, then pull those tracks out of the multi-track recording. Then they would put in any equalization or special effects such as reverb, echo, etc. Then once that's done, the tracks need to be mixed together in the right levels and balance (balance being the placement of the sound from left to right in the playback audio.) Then everyone who gets a say needs to listen to the album to be sure they are satisfied with it. If not, more changes will be made to the mixing. Then the master has to be created. This is what gets duplicated to make the digital file that would be used to make the CD's. The file gets sent to the "pressing plant" for the actual CD's to be made. Hopefully thousands and thousands! There also has to be artwork made for the packaging. Advance copies will probably get sent out to reviewers, radio stations, the band, etc. While all this is going on, the label will be rolling out a promotional campaign, to generate interest in the album before it's even released. This usually includes press releases, interviews, appearances by the band on TV shows and radio, etc. Once the release date gets close, the CD needs to be shipped and distributed to stores. Finally it's officially released, and there will most likely be additional promo at that time, as well as after the release. We may be leaving a bunch out, but that at least gives you an idea of what will be happening during that time.

Nancy gave you an in-depth answer. Quite a lot involved, huh? A friend of mine recorded his album last summer (had the songs written long before that). I've been (impatiently) waiting for the mastering to be done and a release date to be announced because I'm designing the CD cover... and I want to HEAR a somewhat finished product for inspiration. We're FINALLY almost ready... aiming for August 15, now. So, apart from the writing, recording, mixing, remastering, (re-recording when necessary), etc., they also have to consider marketing (CD cover & insert design, promo stuff, PR). It's a long process from the creative spark to the finished product. I'm assuming the LAG's record company also considered the timing of the release from a marketing perspective (i.e. getting it released in time for some radio play before a summer 2009 tour of the new material). The spring 2009 release seems like a pretty standard timeline. P.S. I have another friend who is such a perfectionist, he's been working on his album (re-writing, re-recording, re-mixing, re-mastering) for almost 3 years now. He's indie, though, so there are no record execs giving him deadlines. I think he'd benefit from a deadline or two.

Nancybee, thanks for the insite. Man alot goes into it. Must be taxing on the nerves! Just means we'll have to buy lots of CD's to make it worth it! Oh the sacrifices we have to make as fans! Nicole
