Hi again , Sorry about the book question . I forgot it was asked already . Anyway , I was just doing a little writing , and the words of my favorite author came to mind when she told me what she does when she gets stuck... draws a blank . She leaves where she is and starts a new chapter , then works her way up to that . What do you do when your writing a song and find your at that stand still ? Do you do the same or leave it alone and come back to it ? Always appreciative of your time Marty . Hope to get to a show soon.

Val,
When I get to finishing a song and can see the finish line I keep pushing thru to get something acomplished. It does not mean the song is done, it means that the writing session reached a destination. When I am lost in the middle of a song and can't seem to get anywhere, i usually lay the song to rest. I feel like I took a path, reached a dead end and will wake up the next day and start a whole new path. When I forced songs to completion in the past and then recorded them it always felt like there was just something missing. You can't FORCE a tree to grow. You gotta be patient and let it evolve organically. You can alter it (banzai) , you can chemically treat it (chem lawn), you can cut a hole thru it and build a road (Chandelier Drive-Thru Tree) but the most beautiful ones just grow naturally in the middle of nowhere. That's why the songs that get written in a few hours of inspiration are the best and most honest. No time to stump their growth.
I know, I know. For some reason I cannot escape using the "Tree" as a theme. Believe me, it makes me crazy too!
Marty
