Marty, I believe you also have a finance/business background from your college and early career days. That would lead me to believe you a have a good mix of the analytical and creative aspects of using your brain...I love hearing about the songwriting process, creativity, and inspiration for the music. Yet, I am also interested in how you have to juggle the business side of the equation. What are the business components that you have to keep in focus in order to continually strenghten the available creative opportunities and outlets? How much do you have to shift back and forth to pull all the pieces of the puzzle together?
Thanks, Jack

Hey Jack,
The only way to continue being creative is to be just as driven on the analytical side of the brain to pay the rent.
I have always had a job when rocking with the Hammers. I used all of my income from Appraising to subsidize my music career. The money made from music was primarily used to keep making music. That is the business method until more recently when I was trying to survive on my music money alone and I was starting to think about breaking open the piggy bank. You make money thru music at sporadic time intervals. Live gig and you pay the expenses of the band and take some of the rest to pay your bills. All of the record sales money and publishing money was seen only a few times a year. Annually or semi-annually. If you are not a BIG star and making millions then you have to be slick in figuring out a way to make a living playing and recording music. There are tons of ways to be creative and secure your career.
In order to continue to get the lucky opportunity to make music I am always willing to put on the Appraising hat and make the money I need to live the life I wanna live.
Besides, using both sides of your brain may be a way to keep you more level headed. The analytical brain molds the wet clay into a real fine vase to put on your mantle. Then the creativity brain throws it against the wall and glues the pieces into a completely new object. Same materials and pieces, just new and interesting shapes and interpretations.
Wow. Now I am really getting just plain weird.
I better stop,
Marty
