Wow, Nancy - you should hire yourself out as a tour guide. All of those suggestions are great. nchammerhead, if you're staying the entire weekend, then you should definitely try to hit some of those spots in the city. One way to see a lot of the architecture, and see a great skyline view - is to take one of the tour boats that travel on the river and on the lake. You can catch them at Michigan Avenue and the River, or out on Navy Pier. And Joe's sounds like a great idea - but I'm not going to be able to make it.

Here's an idea for later on Saturday night--Jessica Robinson (from RS:INXS and a Chicago native) and her band Covergurl are playing at Joe's at 10 PM. Anyone up for going to that? i would have taken you up on this but I already have plans w/kb,steph,susie to drive to normal to see Matt Hoffer's band Holding Mercury Dang--that's at least a 2-hour drive! You girls must really be feelin' the Matt love!!! Say hi to him for me. I want to catch one of his shows sometime, but that would be equivalent to driving home for me, so this one's not gonna happen. Have a great time!

Secondly, I've got a favor to ask of you. Hubby and I are former residents of Normal (we both went to ISU). NV Lounge, where Holding Mercury & BOJ are playing, is a relatively new bar (well, within the last several years) built on the hallowed grounds of another bar, The Gallery, which is where hubby and I met. So my favor is, gather the gang around, and toast The Gallery for us? It was SUCH a special place in soooo many people's histories! Tons of good times there, and I actually had some classes there as well (I was an English major-- they understood the connection between drinking and writing, so yes, some profs held class in a bar! ) Good times!!!!

Awe... *sniff... snifff... Nancy you are making me miss Chicago I really love it there, it feels like a second home to me. Such a beautiful... beautiful city and the people go so out of their way to help you. I love Chicago!!!!! Have a great trip mchammerhead I hope that you love the city as much as I do. I have to suggest going to one of the museums or art galleries, if you have a chance.

I agree Portillos is a great place for a hotdog. Gino's East is our favorite pizza. We love to eat in Greektown as well. Santorini's is good.
If you are visiting the city, I personally love the aquarium and the art museum in addition to all that Nancy mentioned. One of our favorite activities is skating in Millenium Park, but not exactly the season for that.
I wish I could check out Covergurl, but I will have my kids with me. We are also visiting some friends who live near Naperville.

Ohh WOW, Kari, I am drooling at your awesome photos, I wanna get that close to Marty someday, how wonderful to be so up close and personal. Looked like a wonderful afternoon. I have been thinking about it all day here and your photos are just how I pictured Marty, so weird! He looks so wonderfully relaxed in front of the audience. Thanks again Kari, you ROCK Helen.

I went to this show. Marty did about 8 songs acoustic of course--
Hold on baby one more time Mr Brightside New song Creep wish you were here can't always get what you want Trees
I may have forgotten a song. He gave autographs before the show, but we got there at the end of that time about 5:20pm but he signed my MCLh CD. After the concert he hung around chatting with people and I got my shirt signed. He was very interactive with the crowd throughout the show. I'd say there were 200 people, and some of them were his family. Good time.

Thanks for the lovely pics! He sure looks rested and relaxed. Those back round tree pics look nice too. Everything here in Colorado is yellow or bare on the trees now. Looks like there was a nice crowd too. All around good stuff for sure thanks again for sharing :cool beans:
