Often referred to as the “land of the Incas,” Peru is a magical world of myths and legends. From the mysterious Nazca Lines etched in the sands of the arid desert coast to the age-old customs observed by the natives of the Amazon Basin to the stories of the sun-god told over and over in the highlands near Cusco, the Peruvian people have preserved their past Although the Inca conquered other Indian cultures in the 15th century and the Spanish conquered the Inca in the 16th century, traditions were not lost, but blended, and today, Peru is a land of great cultural and ethnic diversity.

Maybe you have wondered where the name of Venezuela comes from. In the picture below, you can see houses over the water, in the Sinamaica lagoon (Zulia state), close to Maracaibo. When the first explorers arrived, those houses reminded them the city of Venice. That is why they called the region "Little Venice", which in Spanish would be Venezuela.

Soccer (or should I say football) is something to take in when you're in South America. I'm sure that word on this athlete's shirt means 'superb' in Portuguese. Numero Uno por favor!
