Hi Marty!
My morning routine involves going to the music section of this site and getting ready while listening to the great songs (most which aren't released) since this is the only time I get to listen to them. I love it, just a little me time. My girls (2 & 4) know when Sleeper comes on, they are allowed in and usually climb up onto my king size bed, usually in their dresses and bows and start demanding Marty Casey...Trees! I love it....they mosh around and start the day with dancing and music. If only everyone did this, I think we'd all be a little less stressed and a little more sane!
Point of my story, I do indulge them occassionally in Barney, Elmo, Hi-5, etc, but I really try to still listen to a lot of what I love (what's appropriate) and hope that they really get something out of it. My mom listened to a very eclectic collection of music and I think I am the better for being exposed to everything from Billie Holiday to Kenny Rogers, Johnny Cash, Elvis, The Beatles, Janis Joplin, Patty LaBelle, Tom Petty, etc.
My question to you is:
How much did what you mother or parents listened to influence your own musical style? Navigation to genres? Love of Music, etc? I'm sure all your siblings affected you to as I know mine did...that's where I learned about Jimmy Hendricks, Metalica, Van Halen, Aerosmith, etc.
P.S: Thanks for adding "That's Life" to the Music list, although I do miss C'mon Baby....that really comes on strong, great to get me moving in the AM!
Wishing You Safe Travels in South America,
Adrienne
