wow what a show. i could not have expected more. no wait i got a ton more then what i had expected to happen in the first place. Seeing Marty Casey up close and personal like that was AMAZING! He has to be the nicest artist i have ever met in my life. He is such a nice genuine guy that really cares about his fans.
The show was scheduled to start at 8 but the first opening band didnt even get on stage till about 9:30. I really was annoyed by that cause i really just wanted to see marty and meet him finally. the band that was playing first really was not that good. wait let me say that again so you can feel what i felt. i told rachel to push my over the edge and into the river and let me drown. lol. they were this screamo emo mess that thought they "were amazing". well they werent, no one in the crowd but this one drunk woman and the girlfriends who have to like the music liked it. We had to listen to them for about an hour after they got on stage and it was horrible.
The next band came on at about 10:45ish and was great! they were red sun rising and are worth getting checked out! they kept mentioning Marty and saying that he was ready to come out. They really did a good job at rocking it out on stage. after about an hour of GOOD music we finally got to see marty.
This was my first ever Marty casey or Lovehammer concert. So of course i was very nervous. I wasn't nervous to hear him play, i was nervous cause i knew i would be meeting him. he got up there and was like come closer to the stage cause all of the chairs and tables were very far away. so we pulledu p our table and stools and got really close to him. Wow! he is a very handsome guy. He has eyes that you could just stare into forever.
The first song he played was Mr.Brightside. He always opens his accustic shows with this song which is an amzing song. during the song he was looking around at the audiance and seeing who all was singing allong and looking at all of the smiles on everyones faces. Lets just say i was smiling like someone gave me 1 million dollars. lol. he must have noticed this cause we held eye contact for about a minute but felt like forever.
he went on to play hit me one more time by britney spears, trees, tunnel, and just go is all i can remember cause i was to excited to be infront of him then to pay any attention to the music. after trees he took a break and was going around the room and meeting everyone. when he came up to me and rachel and her mom i could just stand there with a smile on my face and not say anything.
i gave him a hug and rachel gave him the cd that she had made for him. It was The Ours, he loves them and he didnt have the new cd so she made it for him. we ended up deciding on leaving before he was going to get back on stage because we had a long drive home. Well we were just waiting for him to sign my shirt and rachel was talking to some of the people from other concerts that she had been too when he turned to me and started talking to me lol. He was like hey baby and got really close to me. and i was just like will you sign my shirt and he was like yeah no problem. and rach took a pic of him signing it.
We got to talk to him for about 10 minutes which was great! i was telling him how i came about to liking him and the Lovehammers. It was all cause of rachel. i toldh im that she had told me to listen to this song of his when i was going through a hard time at school and home and that his music changed my life. and that he changes many peoples lives with his music. He went on to say that thats what it is all about. having your music change someones life for the better.
i then went on to tell him that rachel didnt think i would tell him this. So i went on to tell him he was hot lol. and he just smiled and said thank you. and so we were saying our goodbyes and leaving and i got my 4th hug for the night and he said to me thanks for the kind words baby! he called me baby again lol. it still just makes me smile and get all the butterflys.
This hadto be one of the best concerts of my life and i did not want it to end. i wish we would have been able to stay the night and stay longer but we could not. we had to go back home to columbus with our 2 1/2 hour drive.
none the less i will see him again this summer i just know it. i have been hooked for life with him and the lovehammers. they are amazing! i cant wait till the nixt show so i can talk to him some more and get to know him like rachel!

Sounds like the show went great after it's late start, and well, you have clearly been bit by the Marty bug, lol! Welcome to the ORG and thanks for posting your review. I think it is perfect to have a fans first live show be the Marty Solo. It is so intimate and easier to meet and talk with him. wow thanks guys for all the love! i just wish i had some more pics from the show! i only got the ones of me and him on my cell phone and one my friend took. but its ok! i know im going to end up with a ton! and yes i have been bitten by the marty bug like a million times! i was so nervous talking to him at the show i just didnt even want to sound stupid or say something dumb lol. but he was awesome like i knew he would be. i have just heard so much great things about his solo shows from my friend i kinda knew what to expect. i just wish i could have stayed after his little break but then we wouldnt have gotten home until like 6 in the morning! but it was well worth it! hope to see all you guys around at other concerts i just wish he would have played i see stars before i left lol another time.

Hey Christine, are you the one who asked me for a marker? Lol, I am the OLD lady with the short dark hair! The concert was awesome, so glad you could meet Marty up close and personal for your first gig! The accoustic gigs are the best for that!
I just dropped in tonight to thank the Martygirls that were at the Cleveland gig! Thanks to Karen's myspace bulletin, I found out about it in time to make plans. And the girls who where there were so welcoming to me, so I felt right at home being an honorary hammerhead (as i am a MiG girl who loves Marty, too). And to Jodi, for making sure I got to finally get a pic with Marty and get an autograph. It was a blast! And I left when Marty was still working the audience, I didn't know there was going to be a second set!!! I would have stayed and then I would have been dead at work, didn't get home until 3:30am as it was! And instead of posting pics on the board, I'm just going to put up the link to the photobucket album...I hope it works! I put up titles and wrote captions so you will know what's what. And if the link works, feel free to post the link or any of the pics on other threads if this isn't the right one, or on any other Marty website message boards. Anyone who wants, feel free to take/copy any of the pics for any reason. Wish I could go the the Pennsylvania gig!

Hahaha, I always keep several markers in my purse and am lucky to have even one left when I get home from any gig!

Marty Casey Solo Concert

Cleveland is an awesome city first of all, I thought the buildings and just overall layout of the city really reminded me of Chicago. Before the Concert My mom, Christine (tine6288), and myself went to LODI outlets and street teamed a bit. Taped tons of flyers around that place, just to have two bored, security guards come behind us and take them down….idiots. But there are a couple they won’t find, in bathrooms and vending machines, lol.



We got there about 7pm, when the doors opened, and got a good table spot. We waited and waited, and waited. And nothing really happened for at least and hour and a half. Jodi and Lyn arrived and we got to talk a bit and exchange stories, and took some pictures. Then we waited some more. My mom and I people watch when we are bored, we mostly focused in on the guitarist for “Wicked Street” he was a character. He had on the Goth, chain, black, zipper pants, and Sharpie all over his face. I think he was trying to be a reincarnation of ‘The Crow’. But eventually I had enough of that and Christine and I played cards for a solid 45 minutes.



The opening band “Wicked Street”, was totally wasted and wouldn’t for the life of them start their set. Once ‘The Crow’ like guitarist got on stage and proceeded to play the set himself. “The rest of the band won’t come up and play!” he said. Okay, then leave and let Marty come out, I was thinking. But eventually they all pulled themselves away from the bar, and climbed on stage. There drum kit was ‘pimped’ out in a textured zebra print, which I thought was a bit strange. They did have a guitarist that was VERY good, (not the ‘Crow’) He played a white electric, and was playing riffs and solo’s that left your mouth wide open. But I can’t say the same thing about the rest of the band. There lead singer just shouted and growled into the microphone, and pointed at their girlfriends who were jumping around the front of the stage (While the rest of us, just wanted ‘Wicked Street to end!). Their drummer tore his shirt off, and he wasn’t built at all, so please put it back on. But the funniest band member had to be ‘The Crow’ he thought he was some metal guitarist for Manson, or Pantera, doing leg kicks, and running around on stage. Wicked Street played for a solid 45minustes. Christine and I went outside for the last song, they were way to loud and bad at the same time. Christine compared Wicked Streets set to having surgery and the anesthetic didn’t kick it. Yeah,…. It was that bad. Later I heard them say “Yeah! We ripped it up!” Yeah you ripped out my eardrums out of my head!

The 2nd band was called “Red Sun Rising” check them out at: www.myspace.com/redsunrisingrocks. They were voted Cleveland’s Free Times’ 2008 Hard Rock Band. Their lead singer set a acoustic guitar on stage, I have never been so happy to see a acoustic guitar ever! I really enjoyed listening to them, they sounded like Alter Bridge meets Nickelback. All the band members where really in tune with the music they were playing, and swayed and danced along. It’s great when artist show their emotions while they play their heart out. I also really enjoyed one of their songs called Beautiful Suicide, the guitar in the song is fantastic. (its on their myspace). They were always reminding us that Marty was coming up next, and we would all cheer. “Marty can hear you, LOUDER!” they would say. After they finished Their Bass, and guitar player rolled their amplifiers by my mom and she told them they did a great job. And they did.

Once ‘Red Sun Rising’ Finished we all where anticipating Marty so much. I heard clapping and Marty walked from the back of the bar, onto the stage with his guitar. He stood there and looked at all of us, “You’re all so far away….come closer” he said and everybody mover their stools, and tables really close to the stage. Everyone was so excited and happy to see Marty in his element. My mom was saying to me she liked his jacket, black with red striping, true Lovehammers style. Marty opened with “Mr Brightside” the fist song he did on Rockstar acoustic. He wasn’t even into the first verse and the string on his guitar broke. “Already!, I wasn’t even into the 2nd verse” Red Sun Rises graciously lended Marty their guitar, while they put another string on it. There awesome! Then Marty continued and the crowd was singing along like crazy.

Before Marty began The Tunnel, he asked if anyone knew the Lovehammers, well we all screamed our heads off. He also explained to the audience that the song was about his ex-girlfriend. “He’s going to try to control you” he said he told her. “I don’t know what happened, I lost interest” Marty said with a little laugh. During the lyrics, “In the Bedroom, in the Basement” Marty really slowed it down and paused, and started again, changing it up a little. Just Go was great, that song is meant to be played acoustic and with the raw emotion Marty brings to it, one of my favorites. Everyone got to sing along with Baby one more time, and Wish you were here. During Creep, Marty told us we could do the really high part, so the audience took over those two verses of Creep. “Feel Free to yell want you want to hear” Marty would ask, and a bunch of women at the bar yelled “Trees!”. “No, shit, of coarse I am going to play Trees, we’ll get to that” He said. Marty ended with Trees, and let the crowd sing the chorus, and we were pretty good. Marty even stopped playing his guitar and let us sing on our own. “Nice!” he said a couple time! “Lets go hang out!”



I could have stayed there forever and listened to Marty play, live music for me at least, is a freedom. When I am at any Lovehammers or Marty Casey concert, I just sit back and have a huge smile on my face. I don’t have to worry about anything else that is going on. I don’t have to worry about school, or expenses, or anything. I just live in that moment and soak in the music. It’s a freedom I have never felt before I found Marty and Lovehammers. The music Marty brought me through Rockstar, and his music as well, has changed my life forever. I see how kind, approachable, and gracious Marty is with his fans, and it makes me wonder why everyone isn’t like that. Why do we dismiss kindness in everyday people? What Marty has with his fans is untouchable, it is unheard of. Most musicians don’t ‘hang out’ with their fans after the show, they don’t take the time to ask questions, and sign autographs, and find out who their fans are, their heads are too big. Not the Lovehammers, that’s what their known for. And that’s why Hammerheads are so loyal, we get so much back from Marty, Dino, Bob, and Billy.

After Marty was done, he walked up to the 2nd story of the bar. I remember sitting their wondering if he was going to come back down. I would have been so disappointed if he didn’t. I walked over and talked with Jodi for a little bit. It was so great to met Yak, and Lyn. Hammerheads are the best! Then Marty Appeared and was taking pictures with some people at the bar. Christine was literally 10ft from him pointing and yelling my name. So, we waited for a bit until Marty came around and dished out the hugs. Jodi got one, my mom got one (yey), I got one and Christine got one. (got a pic with Marty, will post asap) I gave Marty the OURS CD I made him. I found out he was a big fan from one of the questions I wrote to him on the boards. He was very appreciative and was pretty surprised I think to get something, and gave me another hug.



Then we went back to our table and got our stuff together to leave. And Christine wanted to get her shirt signed. So Christine and I went over and waited until Marty was done talking with Yak, at the ‘Hammertable’. I was chatting with some hammerheads, and I turn around and theirs Christine getting her shirt signed! I took a picture with her phone, she was so excited. My mom, Christine, and I got to talk to Marty for a little but. I told him to enjoy his CD. “Is it the new one, I have been wanting to listen to it for a while” Yup it’s the new one, and its rawks! My mom told him that she really liked his writing in blogs and stuff. “You could always be a writer” Marty thanked her. Christine and I told him how much his music has changed both our lives. I think that’s the best thing you can tell a musician, that’s what music is about. Marty asked where I was from…..Columbus. “So did you go to the Columbus show we did?” I defiantly did my first concert ever, and it was great! I wish we could have stayed longer, but we had a 2hour drive home. So we all got goodbye hugs, I told him that it was great seeing you again, and to take care. It was a fantastic show, I loved most of the music, and had a fantastic time with my hammerheads and Marty!

We were all on cloud nine after that show, I can’t say it’s the best Marty acoustic concert I have been too, because they are all amazing and I have great memories of al of them. Christine was looking at the pictures she took with her phone of her and Marty most of the way home…..I have converted her! Lol, I just passed out listening to Augustana, thinking of the great memories I had helped Christine make. It makes me feel so good, when I can bring that kind of joy into someone’s heart, it can be as simple as a life changing concert, or burning someone a CD.
