After all the fall out over the video for Burr Ridge, I'd like to start a new thread as someone suggested to talk about the New Songs we've been fortunate enough to hear. New LA Guns Songs, New Lovehammers Songs, New Solo Work. Let's try to keep it positive and talk about the music. Some of us have been fortunate enough to make it to several shows and see a song evolve as it gets played more. I hope too, that maybe Marty will be able to share a little of his thoughts on his new music, how it came about or how it has changed after performing it live.

Thanks JJ, What a great thread! My wish for Christmas would be that this thread sees as much action as the poetry thread in the months ahead.

This is a wonderful idea . I haven't had the opportunity to see Marty solo, or with LH , but I will get to hear him with LAGUNS in May !!!!!! My ticket to the show is my Xmas present to me . I hope he does come in here to share his thoughts on the music .

As far as new songs go: Hopes and Fears collide...Marty posted a short clip of this song and I fell in LOVE with it. Really hope to make it to a solo show where I can hear it in its entirety. Guns....he sang this with the LH as the opening song...it is real high energy and he really got into it. AWESOME! Just Go....of course, I think it is still on the music page, he sang it live at the Arboretum, a really great song about how you've been hurt and you are just bad news and the new person who is with you shouldn't even bother, they need to just go and walk away before you end up hurting them like you've been hurt. That's Life....I first heard marty sing this is April at a LH show and it sounded very jaded, but the newer version on the music page sounds a lot more hopeful. I See Stars...haven't heard it live, but I definitely like the vibe of this song.

Thanks for your take on the songs .I've heard the clips , and I have to say that I soooo want to hear all of Hopes and Fears Collide . I think it will be one of my personal favs .Love what I've heard so much .He answered my question awhile back about what it is about . I hope he does Just Go in May . NIce . That's Life was playing on my profile at Myspace until I put Merry Christmas All Year Long up , then it will go back on my page . I am rather attached to that one . I See Stars , from what I have heard ,it is so pretty .

i loved getting to hear hopes and fears collide at the show at shakers on december 4th. It was my request that marty played right before he ended with trees. He said it had been over a year since he played that one live but he was glad he got to.
Hearing it live for the first time is amazing and i really do hope he either puts it out himself or with lh. its so beautiful and feelings you get hearing him sing it is amazing
oh and he actually wrote it on july 4th lol

After my darling husband heard Skinny White Guitar Player, this is what he had to say:
"I guess his version will be more popular than my song – “Fat White No-Talent Guy”
It’s something like:
Work all day and sometimes at night
Keep trying my best to do things right
But in the end I’m happy when I get home
Surrounded by angels, I’m never alone
Just a fat white guy who can’t play guitar
Maybe I’ll fix your computer, maybe even your car
Spend my time watching football and goin’ to school
I don’t seem to do anything all that cool.
But so long as she loves me and so do those girls.
I’m happy to be the least talented guy in the world.
So I play air guitar with my headphones on
Lost in my rock fantasy with my favorite song
Do the dishes, the laundry, and I vacuum too
And make a bad karaoke video for you
Just a fat white guy who can’t play guitar
Maybe I’ll fix your computer, maybe even your car
Reading books, listenin’ to music, goin’ to school
I don’t’ seem to do anything all that cool.
But so long as she loves me and it’s her toes I curl
I’m happy to be the least talented guy in the world.

I love 'Honest I'll Wait'--just beautiful, but I have to say 'Skinny White Guitar Player' is a family favorite after hearing the edited version at the Burr Ridge performance. My boys are really hoping that Marty records an edited version as well as the original so that they can load it onto their mp3 players. I am really excited to see what 2009 brings for Marty.......

I forgot to mention 'I See Stars'--my hubby surprised me with a trees dogtag for Christmas so I now have the single--it is a really sweet song and I am sure it will be on my frequent playlist--just about every song he does ends up on that list!

I really like the melody and the lyrics. I think I always feel more connected to a song after I hear it live...here's hoping I hear it at NYE.

I loooove Honest I'll Wait. I think lyrically it's one of my favorites overall. Just magic.
I love the feeling of hearing a LH song I've never heard before for the very first time, there's nothing like it.
