Very COOL! I'll actually be in Chicago for part of that week but was scheduled to fly back to San Francisco on the 27th. Looks like I need to change my flight to the 28th!! I may be solo as the rest of my group goes home that day but I'll be there! [/IMG] Anybody know the scoop on flatlanders? Been there before? How far is it from downtown Chicago? Thanks! Hope to meet someof you there!

well, I'm not familiar with Flatlanders itself, but it's a few miles from my mom's house, so I'm familiar with the area. It's about 30 miles northwest of Chicago (about 45 minutes, depending on traffic, etc). Right by the Marriott Lincolnshire Resort if you need a place to stay that extra night! Just down the street from Hawthorn Mall and hundreds of thousands of strip malls (ok, that may be a SLIGHT exaggeration!) if you need to do some shopping, but closer to a forest preserve, so you got a little mix of things. Oh, and if you're looking to grab some pizza before the show, DEFINITELY check out Bill's Pub (about 5 miles down Rt 45)-- best pizza EVER and a legendary place!!! Not Chicago deep dish, but 2 lesser-known Chicago classic-- thin crust (cracker thin and cut into squares instead of wedges) and double-decker (as opposed to Chicago style stuffed, this is basically 2 thin crust pizzas, one on top of the other). It's a hunting-style lodge, set right on a lake (est. 1958, so it was there before most of the town-- my hometown-- was), but PETA members be warned-- there are stuffed animals (yeah, the kind that used to walk around) everywhere. Oh, and those with allergies, peanuts everywhere too. Some of the best times of my life were here, so if you make it here and I don't, throw one back for me!

Ok...I can't make it to this show...sad!
However, if anyone can convince Marty to sing Hopes and Fears Collide and record it for me...I promise not to post it. I just want to finally hear this song in its entirety and I don't know if/when he'll come close enough on a solo for me to do that anytime soon!

Marty solo show at Flatlander’s brewpub, Lincolnshire, IL, 6/27/09. This venue was very stylish, with a high wood-beamed ceiling, and was set in an upscale shopping plaza. They made their own beer, which was quite tasty. That was the good news. The bad news was that their air conditioning was broken, so the evening turned into a hot and humid sweatfest. A thunderstorm was approaching, and did pass through during the show. That only made it more humid, though. Marty changed his wardrobe accordingly from a long-sleeved shirt, to a vest over a tank top. Wise decision! I only wished I could take off more clothes without being arrested—LOL!!! It was so hot in there that I lost my appetite for my dinner that I’d ordered. Lots of ice water and cold drinks were the order of the evening.
Cousin Bill joined Marty onstage to play a second guitar and sing a bit. Marty performed “Heavy Crown” acoustic, and my sister and I just leaned against each other and cried, in memory of our sister Carol. Marty was sounding really good, and interacted a lot with the crowd. If you haven’t gotten to see one of his solo shows yet, try to do it when you get the chance. It’s a really enjoyable experience.

Thank you for the review of Marty's solo show Nancy I have been missing in action from live shows of any kind for a while, hopefully that will change. I really miss my 'family'....

Thanks for the review, Nancy. Sorry to hear that the A/C was broken (I have no idea what midwest humidity feels like, but I'm sure it's not too fun). I hope one day he does a solo show out here in Northern Calif. (where it's NOT so humid, hehehe) so I can check it out!

HI Nancy. Thank you for the review. Sorry to hear about the A/C. I would've died....That humidity in Chicago was tough to deal with. But, I'm sure the beautiful voice of MC made for a pleasant evening! I hope when Lh comes out west, Marty's able to slide in a solo show, too, in LA. aloha, KP

Don't remember why the face. LOL Cousin Bill was really great on guitar. He and Marty were having fun during the show. At one point Marty asked him "We're a new duo. What should we call ourselves?" And Bill replied, "hmmm. The Marty Casey Solo Show." Aside from the broken AC - it was a really fun evening.
