Anyone else know about this House of Blues show? I know Ticketmaster has this listed, but I called HOB and they said that there was no opening act.

Very short review. Both shows were great - two different types of venues. Wed. night was at the Fuel Room - which is a venue off of a bar/restaurant type place. I'm horrible at estimating capacity, so I won't try. But it was pretty full - not sold out though. Lovehammers played for about 40 minutes and were in good form. There was a big drum riser in the back with the drum set for Gavin's band, so Bobby's drum set was in front of that on the floor - and not much space around it. So it was tight quarters - but they used all the space they had. That night things were running pretty late - Gavin didn't go on until about 11, and I only got to hear a small part of his set before I had to leave. The HOB on Thursday was actually a better show. That stage is big enough that even with a riser in the back, there was plenty of room for the guys to move and really rock the stage. They sounded great! And it was an early show. LH went on at 6:30 and played for 45-50 minutes. I enjoyed Gavin's show - even though I didn't recognize most of it. I thought he was better Thursday than Wed. HOB was definitely packed - but I don't think it was sold out, either. Hopefully lots of GR/Bush fans were hammered each night. Pics to come later. And hopefully a set list - I think I have a pic of one on my phone from the first show.

My review of the shows is pretty similar to what HY wrote. Wed night at the Fuel Room was good, except I didn't like the opening band's music. LH and GR rocked the place. Not sure why it took nearly an hour for GR's equipment to be ready for him to start, though. I was just about ready to give up that he was actually going to play, when things finally got going. The Fuel Room had stage lighting similar to the Key Club in LA--not much lighting on the fronts of the performers. That made photography a challenge. THIS time, I had the lenses for it. The place I rented them from wanted to make up to me for the problem with the lens in LA, so I got to rent 2 lenses for the price of the less expensive one. Big round of applause to them!!! I finally got to play with the 2 that I'd been wanting to try for some time. I used both of them at the Fuel Room, and only the wider angle one the next night. These photos look like nothing else you've seen from me. I like trying new things and experimenting--it keeps boredom from setting in, and I'd been getting a little bored with shooting the same way all the time. LH were really on fire the next night, and I thought GR was better that night, too. He covered a Stevie Nicks song at one point, with only acoustic guitar accompanying him, and that was magical. He also rocked out full force. I was really impressed with him, and will check out more of his and Bush's material. He's such a dynamic performer, and has a great voice. I'm sorry I missed out on his stuff in the 90's. I was in a very different space then, and missed out on a lot of music and other things during that time. I'm making up for lost time now. Oh, the opening band that night was really good, too. Their name is Relief, and they're from Ireland. Plus, the drummer reminded me of Viggo Mortensen, one of my favorite hotties! Cameras were out all over the place in the crowd on Thursday night, so I figured I was safe to get mine out, too. No one hassled any of us. I only saw one photographer in the photo pit that night, a blond lady I don't know. There were several video camera operators, though. I know for a fact that at least 2 GR fans came away from the shows Hammered! At each of the shows, I ended up striking up a conversation with the ladies next to me (different one at each show). I asked if they'd ever seen LH before, and when they said no, I gave a bit of background on Marty and LH, and told them they were in for a real treat. Halfway through the show Wed night, the lady turned around and said to me, "I didn't know they were so good!!! WOW!!!" The next night, that woman just kept saying "WOW!!!!" after LH's show. BTW, if you're going to the Fuel Room in Dec, and you are coming from the south, allow extra travel time, because I-94 is under a lot of construction most of the way from Chicago proper up to Libertyville, and the speed limit is reduced. Also, good news for fans of Mother Hubbard (tasty late-night eats, across the street from Rockit.) From down the street, it looked like it was boarded up, but when we walked by to get back to our car later Thursday, after a fun trip to Portillo's with our Hammerhead friends , we saw that Mother Hubbard's is still alive and well. The boards were over another storefront, not them. YAYYYY!!!!! Good times with good friends and great music--you just can't beat that!

Thanks Nancy for your reviews and glad to see people continue to be hammered. I'm so happy that others are discovering what an awesome band Lovehammers is.

To get you in the mood for their show this Saturday, here are Lovehammers at the Fuel Room in November! I was trying some different lenses, and experimenting with low-light photo techniques. The lighting was so low at this venue that it was nearly NO-light photography. ;D I got some interesting shots that have a lot of mood and attitude, so click on the link below to watch my Flickr slideshow. Enjoy! www.flickr.com/photos/43217924@N07/sets/72157622909515798/show/
