Wow! I can't believe no one has posted in here since the show!! It was amazing! DH and I flew to Chicago Friday morning from Ottawa, Canada and had a wonderful time exploring the city. We spent Friday site seeing and Saturday shopping, then headed to the sound check at 4pm at the Metro. It was quite disorganized with a long line outside, even though we could hear Marty singing inside. They finally let us in and there was a HUGE wait to get inside and up the stairs. When we finally got in, the LHs played one more song and sound check was over... WTF?? Oh well, we then hung out with all the Hammerheads and said hi to old friends. It was great to see so many familiar faces from the Heavy Crown CD release weekend in june 2009, and meet FB friends I haven't yet met in person.
We bought VIP balcony tickets, so we got in line to be allowed up to the balcony and they finally let us up 20 minutes before the show started. We got a table and chairs right at the front of the balcony with a great view. Seems like we were sitting in the family/friends section (Marty's parents were right behind us) and some very beautiful people showed up 2 minutes before LHs came on, and looked very perturbed that we were sitting in that section, but hey, no one told us otherwise.
There were 4 bands that warmed up and they were all good in their own way. LHs came on and did their thing. It was different for me this time being on the balcony instead of in the front row. I felt like more of an observer than a part of the show. It was interesting but definitely next time I'll be front stage for sure. Marty rocked it and just has such an incredible power over the audience. He truly is amazing. Can't remember all the songs they sang, but liked the new songs. Especially liked when Marty came out with no shirt on!!
After the show we hung out for a bit. Dino appeared on the balcony to talk to his familiy. DH and I went down to get our coats and there was a huge line up to meet Marty. DH saw an entry and went for it, shaking marty's hand and telling him it was great. It was DH's first time so I was happy he met Marty. We went to the after party down the street and hung out for an hour or so, but there was a lot of very drunk people there and it just wasn't our scene at all. The LHs showed up but they didn't seem to be in any hurry to get on stage, so we left at 12:30 ish and walked for ages. That was nice.
I love Chicago so much and was so happy to actually see the city this time with DH, and get to see my favourite band! What a great weekend. Very different than the last time but so enjoyable.
