For more publicity for Marty & LH cd, I thought I'd start below thread in the closing days of RS:SN. I don't know if Adventuress is a member here, but maybe now she will be! Thread was able to change one poster's mind into buying the CD- harleygal... It was a good turnout considering some of the bashing that went on! LUV!

I have listened to the whole cd.
Generic is the word I think best describes it.
He sounds way better than what we saw on the INXS show, though. (lots of processing)

I saw Marty & the Lovehandles live in Toronto, Canada, back in May when they were the opening band for INXS. The music was okay; I was more interested in Marty because I loved him on Rock Star, INXS. I was disappointed seeing him live because he moved around the stage constantly. It was almost impossible to photograph him. I really have no interest in buying the Lovehandles CD.

Sigh, tough crowd coz I happen to love this CD.
By accident, found out that Marty had a CD and was coming to Toronto in August, so I rushed out (found it Wal-Mart of all places! Marty you have arrived!LOL) on the strength of loving Marty on the show and his original Trees. CD version is different, but got used to it and is still blast it in my car. (I think I'm stuck in the 80s', as I love Coldplay and the Killers coz they sound like bands from the 80s')...........................................
Anyway, songs are all different: fast, slow and some of the songs have an 80s' vibe to it (U2, Split Enz), and I love that. Fave songs are Clinic, Straight as an arrow, heck all of them! Lyrics are introspective, self-affirming with a dash of soul-searching... Songs were pre-Rockstar, so Marty and LH are chasing Destiny who has been illusive, so this CD has that feel to it... Oh yeah, of course, love, love Marty belting it out on the heavier songs(can you tell I'm not a musician-I'll be fodder to you sarcastic ones! oh well, that's ok, I know what I like)...
Harleygal, Marty does move around a lot, but that was a good thing, coz he left the stage and stood on top of the counter/bar where I was at and instead of helping him up, I shamelessly stroked his arm (i don't know what came over me?sighhhh)... ANYWAY, MC & LH sounded way BETTER live! TuneSlinger, perhaps that what you meant when you say CD had "lots of processing"? Were you complimenting Marty or was it a back-hand insult? I first took it as a compliment, but I'm not really sure?
TS, If you call Marty & LH music generic, then you must be hating SN's tracks? With that aside, I guess, I'll take generic, at least you didn't say garbage or mediocre (or maybe you were too polite to say - anyway, I appreciate your TACK!)...I think everyone borrows or are inspired by someone, no one is really that original, well maybe except for Beethoven...
Guys, thanks for taking the time to post! Appreciate it!

I am going to preface this by saying that I was Marty fan from the beginning of the Rock Star series. So, my review may be a little biased.
My initial thought when hearing the CD for the first time was that the music was a little harder than I had expected…but definitely in a good way. (I agree with the people who have been saying that Marty would have been better suited for the Supernova series than the INXS one.) My favorites are “The Tunnel” and “Eyes Can’t See,” the latter of which reminds me of early Stone Temple Pilots. I think “Clouds” could have easily been a top-10 single…had it been promoted.
One more thing, if you want the cover of “Wish You Were Here,” it only comes with the album when you download it through iTunes.

LuvGirl,
If it turns you on then that's all that counts! I just felt that I wasn't really hearing anything new when I listened to it. Its not bad. Its not great. Its good. I'd recommend it to anyone with a large hard rock collection.
I definitely think he sounds better with his band than he did on the inxs show. I thought he was kind of soft on the show. When I first heard the CD I thought "This cant be the same guy!".
I love that you mentioned the split endz. Your leaning into New Wave 80s territory there. heheh. Shows your not stuck in one genre
I'll hold my thoughts on the SN stuff for now. It would be too early to judge. I think it sounds very classic rock but even a subtle arrangement change (which I'm sure will occur) for whoever they pick to sing could change the vibe completely.
I kind of hope they stick to a classic rock style, actually. A good straightforward rock and roll band might be refreshing.

Afranjes, nice to hear from you! It's great you added that CD "is a little harder" than you expected. Some may read my review and be turned off (may not like 80s' and my describing the lyrics "soul-searching") and not give CD a listen. That would be awful.
Marty's vocals are awesome in these two songs: low and sinister then explodes... Oh the band is GREAT too!

Marty Casey and Lovehammers' album is one of my absolute favorites! There are songs for everyone, but yes, the Lovehammers are a ROCK band, so the music rocks! Marty's voice is incredible and for those who have seen this band live, you will know that what you hear is what you get-awesome vocals that were not too "polished" in a recording studio! The lyrics are phenomenal, the band is amazing, and the album just rocks! Straight as an Arrow is plain fun, Clouds is beautiful and the rest just rock! Go out and buy it/download it today! Can't wait for their next album!

Tune, thanks for elaborating! "Its good. I'd recommend it to anyone with a large hard rock collection." is a glowing endorsement in my books! I've read that their earlier CDs' L'strange and Murder on My Mind are closer to how they perform live.
Now that they have been signed, hopefully band can concentrate and make the jump from good to great (your grading) in their next CD.

L'strange is my very favorite LH CD, I'm more in tune to that style. However, Murder on My Mind and Marty Casey and Lovehammers are also awesome CDS. I love all of their music. I just wish there was more. They are the best "live" band I have seen in a long time. They truly want the fans to be part of the experience. That's why Marty moves around so much. He wants to include everyone there at the show. I loved him on Rockstar because he seemed so real..and he really is like that. I truly hope everyone will listen to their music and try to see them live...they will be hooked for life just like the rest of us hammerheads, always craving another show!!

I love my Marty Casey and the Lovehamers CD. His voice is low and sexy at times and and he can belt it out with the very best of them at other times. My Eyes Can See, Trees and Clinic are a few of my favorites but the whole CD is really good. You can understand the words and he writes about life in a way I can really relate to. The lyrics really make me think. I'm a Marty Casey lover, Im hooked, what can I say. I love him

I was a fan of Marty since Rockstar:INXS, but I'm glad JD won because Marty with Lovehammers is so much better than Marty with INXS. Marty Casey and Lovehammers CD rocks and so do the earlier ones. I've seen Lovehammers live twice -- once with INXS and once headlining. Both were phenomenal! But the longer they play the better. See them live if you can.

Hey guys, now we're talking! I knew there would be others loving this CD!!!!!! Welcome Hammerheads!
I'm going to have to get a hold of L'strange and MoM cds.
At the concert, Marty talked about "Eyes can't see", and for the life of me can't remember all that he said...overall, Marty's message was inspirational... goes something like this: in the last few moments just before we fall sleep, our minds are crystal clear and sees things that it can't normally do during the day in our waking hours, if we remember these thoughts and really go for it, we can realize our dreams... That happens to me, but in my case, I've let these amazing thoughts & ideas go by. Can anyone fill in what I'm missing re: eyes can't see song? That was so nice of Marty to inspire and to me was quite intimate.
Anyone going to the Hammerfest Oct 14 in Chicago? Unfortunately, I can't since the family coffers have run dry! We're taking our 4 year-old to Disneyworld....................................................I'm hoping LH comes back to Toronto/NY or anywhere I can talk my husband in taking a road trip. I AGREE LH concerts are phenomenal - that's the best word!

I bought many copies of this CD when it came out to save me the trouble of having to move it from one CD player to the next as I went about my day. Listened to it non-stop. AWESOME. Some Hammerheads (including my teen-age daughters) prefer the harder edge of L'Strange and Murder on My Mind. I agree. But their next CD should rip it up!! Can't wait for another show out here on the northwest coast!! Anyone who hasn't MUST see them live!!

Lovehandles??? Not on these guys!!!
Seriously, Marty moves around so much because he likes to work the whole stage and get people really involved in his show. And he does! It's impossible to sit still or take your eyes off him when he is performing. I put my camera away after the first time I saw them ... I don't want to miss anything. They are a great, great live band.
This is a recent quote from Marty to let the fans know why he does what he does.
I continue to work hard and blow your minds with every performance. I hope that any influence I may have is a positive energy and incite you to take some risks and make good things happen for yourself.
Personally, I think that's awesome.
As far as the CD's are concerned, I prefer the raw sound of "L'Strange" and "Murder on my Mind" (you can sample them both at iTunes; just search on Lovehammers to find them). But the new CD, while it may be more "produced", has a great cross-section of songs and includes "Straight as an Arrow" which kicks butt and which you can't find on the other two albums. I like to compare the original versions of the songs with the new ones. Also, if you download the new album from iTunes, you'll get "Wish You Were Here" as a bonus track.
Keep rockin'!!!

I picked up this CD as soon as it came out because I got hooked when Marty was on Rockstar. I was not disappointed. I didn't know of the Lovehammers prior to Marty's turn on Rockstar. This CD freaking ROCKS from start to end. They are unbelievable live...and of course you can take photos. Just do it quickly because he IS such an active performer If you want to see someone who stands in one place, don't go to a LH show. He may be in the last row, hanging from the rigging or up in the balcony. You just never know.

It was an intentional typo when I referred to the Lovehammers as Lovehandles. Glad to see someone is paying attention. Perhaps I judged the band too quickly. I have to admit that the music is not what I expected when I saw them live although I do like the tune "Trees" and I remember a few others that sounded good. After reading all the positive feedback about the C.D. I think I"ll just go out & buy it.

I wanted to add my two-cents to this thread, but there's not a lot I could add that hasn't already been said. I was a fan of Marty throughout Rock Star (as well as a few of the others) and kept tabs on him via his website. I bought the CD as soon as it came out and really love the intensity and variety of the songs on the CD. I'm not sure if Marty is the one who writes the songs...but somebody in the Lovehammers is an excellent lyricist.
I agree with whoever wrote that the song "Clouds" could have been a Billboard hit, had it gotten any promotion. I'm actually **** (can I write that?) that the record company let that one fall through the cracks.

Harleygal! So good of you to change your mind and BIG enough to ADMIT it! You'll love us for swaying you! Anyway, you were already a MARTY fan, you just needed a little gentle shove... I did see your boo-boo/typo, but thought it best NOT to mention it. Me mom taught me to be nice...
Barbarella, yeah, it was poor marketing for Epic as I didn't know that Marty had a CD... Lovehammers' fans have "street teamers" that spread the word/love of anything Lovehammers to the world so, I thought this thread would be a good thing!
The lyrics are good. There's a bittersweet quality to most of the songs, like the girl is always leaving or whoever is writing has not found the right girl to love yet... I likened that to "Destiny" being illusive... ONE day, whoever is writing these songs will FIND that soul mate or success or happiness or contentment or peace etc. and BOOM! I'm thinking that most of the songs are written by Marty... I could be wrong, but an educated guess...

Hi Letgo,
Yes, Marty writes almost all of the songs. They are often autobiographical. He sometimes talks about them, and the process he goes through, when he is on stage.
Barbarella, most of us who are Marty Casey fans can't understand why they don't get more air play. "Trees" is a cute song, but it's not really representative of what the band is all about. If you like a particular song, would you call or write your local radio station and ask them to play it?
And Harleygal, I'm so glad you decided to get the CD. You won't be disappointed.
Finally, I'm so glad to see that this year's RS has a thread devoted to Marty!

Here's one of the pics I was able to "capture":

Lisa, what a perfect SHOT of the moment! Marty is so soulful, intense, passionate, articulate and gorgeous. He'd be a perfect friend! One day, I hope to meet him.
I forgot my camera on concert day, so I was bummed for a while. I have my memories, but will keep going to the concerts when I can and CDs!

I am not disappointed with Marty Casey & Lovehammers Cd's I've purchase!!!! Very rare when a CD comes out with every songs on it is above the 9 level on a scale from 1 - 10.... I find it really difficult to pick my FAV song!!!
Each song has it's own style, memory provoking to down right Rock n Roll!!! Best $ I've spent in a long time. No regrets!!!!
PS... Marty Casey Rocks!!! Not hard to look at either hehehe
