Adrenochrome,
Thanks for that insightful post. It really summed up the way I and many others have been feeling.
I am new to the Koolaid commune and extremely proud to be part of it.
The sense of fellowship and understanding has been great for my sanity. Knowing that it is not just me...well y'all get it.
And the witty, intelligent, artful posting is a bonus too

I am so glad I found this site. "I, Alone" was the performance that hooked Marty completely for me. I thought he was cute and interesting before that, but then.....wow. He became a true rock star at that point, and I, like many of you, got excited about music again. I very nearly got on a plane to Chicago this morning, but managed to talk myself into waiting until they play their own show.
Off to have some Kool-Aid.....

Well said, Amy, palari, xsivelyhammered, beantown and del901. The Kool-Aid thing is also self-deprecating, imho. As grownups, with full lives before, during and after all this, most of us are pretty stunned to find ourselves so focused on a new band/singer. We realize it's all a bit silly, a bit crazed, but our (dark) senses of humour are intact and we're having fun with it. Many of us have had our interest in playing music and going out to live shows sparked and renewed. Some commune members have picked up the guitars, drums and mikes they dropped years ago and are once again expressing themselves musically. We're supporting each other not only by passing on info on where to see and hear Marty and LH, but by encouraging one another's self-expression and other talents. Marty is what drew many of us together in the first place, but out of that has also come much hilarious and insightful writing, visual art and music. So, yeah, it's about Marty, it's about the fan thing, it's about the craziness we acknowledge in ourselves, but it's also about the communities we've formed, both online and off. Yet another proud member of the Kool-Aid Commune and, yup, Hammerhead. Well, this is a perfect example of why I'm so at home in the Kool-Aid Commune. Very well said, adrenochrome! Our commune is full of witty, intelligent people who understand how to snark with love, and squee with subtlety. Okay, sometimes it's not so subtle! But it's usually well thought out, relevant to the conversation, and always entertaining. I'm proud to be a Kool-Aid drinking Commune Wife, a Hammerhead, and a steadfast, swooning servant of our Lord of the Peaches. Pass the Kool-Aid! Edited because alliteration is good.

Yes, "I Alone" got me, too. I hadn't even been watching the show before that night, unfortunately ... but i saw that performance and I thought, "Who is that guy?" From then on, I was hooked. Marty is really a very clever, innovative performance artist, as well as a great straight-ahead rocker.
His comment to his sister over at the Rockstar site (week 4 exclusive video) that he never thought of himself as a singer, he just thought he could scream really well, was surprising. I hope now he sees that he has a huge range of styles and can really do anything he wants.

Isn't that a CREEEEEPY reference to the Jim Jones cult and the massacre of his converts? Yes, a little creepy...but if you're going to make a cult reference, it's not quite as creepy as the one with the Nikes and purple satin thingies.
