I have noticed an interesting phenomenon.
It is something I am calling The Marty Casey Effect.
Yesterday a colleague, K, introduced me to a woman visiting our workplace. I had to turn off my iPod to join the conversation and the visitor asked me who I was listening to. My colleague jumped in and said "Oh she is listening to the Lovehammers. You remember last year...Rockstar? Yes?...well that is Marty's band."
Then this thing happened. As the woman registered who K was talking about...her chin lifted and her eyes and nostrils flared briefly. Her lips kind of parted as she drew in a breath and she said to me, very seriously..."Marty Casey?"
What ensued was a riotous conversation about hot boys and rock and roll, Rockstar and Lovehammers. It was a lot of fun.
Then later, another thing happened.
I went to the local cafe to buy my lunch. The woman who always serves me, N, started telling the new girl there about my obsession with a rockstar (everybody in my life knows. I am a walking frickin' tragedy).
"Oh, which rockstar?"
"The tall blond one" said N "from that INXS thingy"
And again with the chin and the eyes and the nostrils, the sharp intake of breath and the serious stare..."Marty Casey?"
...yes...Marty Casey...he has an effect.
