I was just wondering why at the end of WYWH, marty turned around and started 'crying' but then controled himself.. just curious

From what I recall, his emotions were running high because of the meaning of the song. I believe he said he was thinking of everyone back home...his family, the Lovehammers, friends...that he left behind and he wished they could all be there with him.

I also heard somewhere that that he was thinking of some friends of his that had died in a car accident just prior to the show.

You can read his description of that performance in his RS diary. Of course, the following night Gary Beers was wiping his eyes after Marty's encore.

Had to add this actual quote here, just in case anyone has never seen it before. This is from his Rock Star diary: www.martycasey.org/photos8a.htm"When it was my turn to perform, I was unusually calm. My focus was dead-on and the band was so tight. I felt humbled by the magnitude of the song and all the musicians backing me. As the song progressed I started getting more and more emotionally involved with the lyrics. It took everything I had to hold it all together and be a professional. I saw snapshots of my life flash before my eyes like a hologram and I had to stop them before they tore me up. It was a deeply personal moment for me that happened to be viewed by millions of people. This is truly one of the greatest moments of my life. "

I'm going out on a limb here............ Pink Floyd has got to be one the greatest bands ever.......their style is extremely unique and Wish You Were Here is one of the greatest songs ever written. I would like to think that Marty was overwhelmed over the magnitude of what he was experiencing at that moment. On Stage In front of millions Singing Pink Floyd A legendary song Backed up by first rate musicians and vocals And Marty...front and centre.... Priceless THAT.....is what every singer/musician aspires to......and Marty found himself there.......a truly defining moment...... I'd have cried as well...........

You know, this is an emotional song for many people for many reasons. I know I have my reasons for getting choked up everytime I hear it. This song has power and the lyrics have been known to bring me to my knees. I don't know what Marty's reasons were but like Stiletto said, Marty was at the center of a very powerful overwhelming moment.

What I like about how Marty performs is that the songs all seem to well up from someplace deep inside him ... he may be "cerebral" but when he sings, the songs aren't coming from his brain (although it also seems like he's always thinking and always aware of what is going in around him). I enjoy hearing artists describe what the creative process is like for them, and his description of the first performance of WYWH is really interesting and honest.
The first encore of WYWH is also very revealing. I'm not sure if he knew in advance that he might be singing it (you never know with these reality shows what is spontaneous and what isn't), but when he got up on stage, you can see when he is allowing the song to come to him and when it actually "lands." He's moving to the rhythm until the end of the first line ("So ... you think you can tell") and from that point on, the song is inside him and he just sings ... until the bridge, when he closes his eyes and lets his body do the singing ...
It was also cool to see Gary Beers get emotional from that performance. Gary seemed to "get" Marty pretty much throughout the entire show.

Another great example that Marty is real.. not the usual real as far as no duh he is a human being.. but that he is a Real performer.. somebody whom we all can truly look up to and admire.
He just rocks.. ya know?
