I don't know if anyone else is aware of this, but I thought I'd tell you anyway. Richard Roeper (of Ebert and Roeper) wrote a book called "Sox and the City" A fan's love affair with the White Sox from the heartbreak of '67 to the Wizards of Oz. During the section about Game 2 of the American League Championship Series of 2005 Roeper mentions Billy. this is what it said: The crowd seemed a little edgy before the game. See? That Boston series had been too easy. Now, we were a fight. Now, we knew that if we didn't pull this one out, the odds against a World Series appearance would nearly be astronomical. There was a lot of clapping and high-fiving and well wishing in the stands before the game, but a lot of us were casting wary glances at the field, as if we feared something memorably awful might happen out there. Enter the Lovehammers. Not the entire band-just their guitarist, one Billy Sawilchik, who had been tapped to play the "Star-Spangled Banner". As Sawilchik ripped through a searing, heavy-metal version of the national anthem, the South Side crowd roared its approval and seemed to regain its footing. That's right-we're not about the Three Tenors or some American Idol second place finisher or a Bobby Darin knockoff singing the national anthem. This version rocked. (I had to re-read this paragraph over and over again to make sure that my mind wasn't playing tricks on me.)

There is a message board at whitesoxinteractive.com and this is what some of the posters have said about Billy.
- All I know is the guy that played the National Anthem, ROCKED. That was awesome.
- I'd love to second the poster who enjoyed the national anthem. Good Stuff!
- Hendrix style, it was great! It was note for note the way the anthem sounds, simply amazing!!!
- Agreed the National Anthem Kicked a**
- According to my buddy that was at the game with me, the guy that played the national anthem is the guitarist from a Chicago band called the "Lovehammers". Supposedly they've been around for a bunch of years and their lead singer was the guy that finished second in that search for a new lead singer for INXS.
- I agree the national anthem was awesome. It sent a few chills up and down my spine.
- The anthem was amazing but the guitar he used to play it on was just as good! Anyone know where you can get a guitar like that???
- And here's another vote saying the national anthem was amazing.
- The National Anthem was awesome, and so was the guitar.

Are there any recordings of this that we can get a hold of? I would love to be able to listen to it!

So cool! GO Billy! Does this mean I have to stop hating Richard Roeper?

Thanks for those quotes, wildroses. I need to go register on that board and see if I can find the threads and put a link up to Billy's site. That would be cool! Ever since he played, I have wanted to see that performance soooo badly. Hence, my avie. I will check into this on my end and see if I can come up with anything. No guarantees. But, it's worth a shot. Very cool! Edited to add: I registered at that board and have no clue where to find those posts. wildroses, could you pm me a direct link to those threads that comment on Billy?
