I decided to write something for all the LH fans with little one's. I am a single Mom myself, and I know that finding the perfect bedtime stories can be a fun challenge at times. So, most nights I make up stories off the top of my head for my son. They are short, but they have a lesson to them. I hope this one is just fun for you to share with your kids. Feel free to print it up and read on to the little one's.
Once upon a time, in a very large construction site in Chicago, lived a little hammer named Marty.
Marty was a very strong and reliable tool. He never complained and worked as hard as he could every single day. Come rain, snow or coldest of days he gave all of himself to his job. Signing a happy tune every single time he struck a nail, he loved being able to create such marvelous things in the world around him. Yet, sometimes he longed for more.
He longed to be like Cupid's bow and arrow. Making love bloom in the hearts of other's. How Marty loved the idea of love.
One day while he lay in his tool box at the construction site, Marty looked up in to the brilliantly dark sky to see a single shinning star in the sky. It was perfect. Marty smiled happily as he closed his eyes and made a wish on the star above...
"Dearest star... please hear my wish. For I only want one thing. More than anything.... please oh please... let me bring love to so many things. I want to be like Cupid's bow and arrow."
Marty looked at the star once more and saw it shoot clear across the sky. Shimmering dust followed it's tail, showing down to the Earth in an angelic shower. The dust fell into the construction site, right before Marty.
Slowly, the dust began to glow brighter and brighter till a beautiful fairy stood before the awe struck little hammer.
Speaking with a gentle and graceful voice, the fairy knelt down before Marty. " Sweetest little hammer. I have heard your wish. You want more than anything to be like Cupid's bow and arrow. You wish to bring love into the world. That is a wonderful wish... to bring into the world love."
Marty spoke then merrily, "Yes. Please more than anything I want that."
The fairy reached a hand out to pick him up in her hand. " Dear little hammer. I will not change you into something that you are not, or where never meant to be."
Marty's smiled fell. He couldn't believe that he would not get his wish. He began to cry.
Just then the fairy spoke once more, " Hush little one. Not all is lost. I just am telling you that I will not change you. I believe that you are the most amazing and talented hammer that I have ever seen. You have a very wonderful gift. Each time you strike a nail you sing. I have heard your voice clearly in the sky so many times and it makes me filled with joy. I will make your wish come to pass. I will allow for you to help create love. In the morning you shall awake and start your new job creating love and memories to last a lifetime. Now go rest little one, and in the light of the new day you shall see."
Marty smiled joyfully, as the fairy vanished and he stood there in the construction site alone. Growing tired he laid down to rest and fell sound a sleep knowing that in the morning he would be changed.
The sounds of building woke Marty with a start. He looked around to see that he was not in the construction site anymore, but in another site that was building homes. He was in a new tool box, too.
People all around him worked steadily on creating this very large home. They were young, old, tall, short, and of every ethnic background that he could imagine. They all stood together building. One woman sung a happy tune as she fixed a light fixture on the porch. Another spoke to a nearby man saying how wonderful it was to have so many tools donated to help them in their work."
Marty thought to himself "Donated? To where?". Then Marty saw a sign being hung on another home. It read "Habitat for Humanity".
Marty smiled brightly, his wish had come true. He would be building homes for many families that were in need. Some of the homes the first that these families would be calling their very own. He would be creating love and making memories for these families to last a lifetime.
He realized that he didn't have to be Cupid's bow or arrow to create love. He was able to do that just being who he was. So, from that day on Marty worked just as hard as he could, signing loudly with every nail he placed into the foundation of these sacred homes. Marty was a love hammer, forever.
The end.
