What an
AWESOME night of street-teaming!
Den (dlh), her daughter-in-law Liz, and I street-teamed the INXS concert in Indianapolis (Clowes Hall at Butler University), and it went SUPER well!!! I am still psyched!
Den was kind enough to give me her extra ticket, so that I could get into the venue and get flyers put in the restrooms, etc. Both Den and Liz were a huge help--I simply could not have gotten all the items passed out to all those people by myself.
DEN AND LIZ, YOU ROCK!!!!!!!We gave out everything we brought. I had made 100 CD sampler discs, over 100 magnets, and over 200 flyers. (I worked all weekend putting everything together.) Den brought a boatload of flyers and magnets, too. So we had over 500 items to give out, and we gave them all out BEFORE the show.
Clowes Hall has a capacity of around 2100 people, and most people came there in groups of 2 to 4. I would say that nearly every group I approached to give things to took them, so that comes close to giving something to every group of people there.
People just COULD NOT GET ENOUGH! I wish I had unlimited resources for street-teaming, because I could easily have given away many times more CDs and magnets than I had. (People really love magnets. It's like the little kid in them comes out again, and says "Oooo--a magnet. COOL!") When people heard that these were for Marty's band, they were practically snatching them out of my hands. Some people who saw what others had came up to me saying "I want one! I want one! I love Marty! I wanted him to win!" Many MANY people did NOT know that Marty has a band, and that they have a CD out. This is the same thing I encountered when I was street-teaming on the first leg of the INXS tour. Our street-teaming was the first these folks knew about Lovehammers. The big smiles on their faces when they found this out made me happier and happier all evening. I was going from group to group handing things out as fast as I could, and could hardly keep up with demand. Den and Liz were at the other approach to the venue, and I could see that they were getting the same reactions.
One of the funniest parts of the evening was that for a while when I was doing my S-T thing, there were a couple of INXS roadies, with their passes around their necks, sitting on a bench behind me having a smoke. They were seeing all of the reactions from people, and one said to the other, "That's marketing genius for this band's fans to do this!" I later told them, "See? Everyone knows who Marty is! Everyone loves Marty! If INXS still had his band opening for them, they would have sold out this venue for sure. You should tell them that!"
LOTS of people wanted to know why Lovehammers weren't on tour with INXS, because as they said, "INXS
said that they would have Marty open for them!" I told them, "Well, you would really have to ask INXS why that is." People were disappointed to not be seeing them that night, but they were excited to hear that tour dates are being scheduled.
Then in the lobby, I heard many snippets of conversation of people talking about the items, and the word "Lovehammers" was buzzing around the whole crowded lobby! 8) And...all the flyers I put in the women's restroom were gone by the end of intermission. They had even pulled off the ones I stuck on the inside of the stall doors. ;D I saw people leaving the restroom with them, so they did get into fans' hands.
YEAH, BABY!!!!! I am still buzzed!!! The only thing that could have made the night better would have been if the guys had been playing there. (And if I'd had more stuff to give out.)
WOOO HOOOOO!!!!!
A couple notes about the show--Scott Stapp was opening, but I totally missed him, because I stayed outside S-Ting until no more people were coming up. Then I put my last few flyers in the restroom just before intermission. Maybe Den can post her thoughts about his performance.
I stayed for 3 songs by INXS, then I couldn't take it anymore and got out of there. They had the bass up so loud, and on such powerful subwoofers, that it was physically painful on my entire body. I was about 10 rows back, right in the middle. Those would have been great seats for Lovehammers' show, but horrible for the sound system that INXS was using. The sound was so overloaded with bass that everything else was garbled.
Also, this show had not sold out. There were still tickets available at the box office, and I could see a fair number of empty seats. I know that when Lovehammers were on the bill, they were selling out venues this size and larger. Indianapolis is a large city--this should have sold out easily.
As I watched and tried to listen to those 3 songs, I was thankful all over again that Marty didn't win that gig. I'm SO glad we get him as himself, with his band, not forced into someone else's mold.
GO, LOVEHAMMERS!!!!
