[quote="taurusrocker"I was asked by a Moderator if I can write how I Street Team the Lovehammers in the Philippines.
This is how I've gotten them on the radio:
Street Teaming MCLH on the Radio
Tips on how to effectively market your favourite artist:
1. Identify the genre where your artist fits in? Rock, Country, Pop, RnB,
Trance, Electronica, New Age, World Music and so on...
2. Marty Casey and the Lovehammers will fall under:
- Rock
- Modern Rock
- New Rock
- Alternative Rock
and could also go under:
- Top40
- Mix
Note: Start with these types of stations first and then try the
Pop and Mix stations.
Here is a website that will help you identify radio stations in your country, state, province, region, city, etc.
RADIO STATION WORLD DIRECTORY:
radiostationworld.com/default.asp
3. Information Gathering
- It will make your job easier if you organize the information you've
gathered on an excel sheet.
Categories: Company Name, Contact person, Address, Phone nos., Email, Website...
- It's best to go to the top and contact either the Station manager or Music
Program Director.
4. Have press kits ready: MCLH CD, nice print out of the band's bio (which you can download from http://www.lovehammers.com). You can also include like a bumper sticker, magnet, coaster, postcard or whatever promo item in your press kit.
- Since Red/Black is MCLH's color, use a folder with those colors for uniformity. It would be nice if you can stick a nice photo of the band on the front of folder.
- Make sure you have a business card stating that you are an MCLH Street Teamer. It does help if you're actually a Street Team Leader. Makes you look legit and professional.
5. Call the station and ask to speak to the music program director or station manager. When asked why be honest and say that "I'm promoting a band called Marty Casey and Lovehammers. I'm part
of their street team. I would like to speak the program director or station manager about playing their music, if you haven't already". Always be professional and polite on the phone.
- They may be nice or they may not be nice but always keep your composure. Remember, you are representing Marty Casey and the Lovehammers and what you do will reflect on the band.
6. If you want to go to the station in person, there will always be a receptionist there to help you (in most cases). Wear business casual clothes. You must look the part. Ask to speak to the station manager or music program director.
The receptionist will inquire what is the nature of your business: Be honest. For example, "I'm promoting a band called Marty Casey and the Lovehammers. I wish to speak to either the station manager or program director about getting their music heard on your radio station".
If the station manager or program director isn't there, then leave your MCLH press kit addressed to either the Station Manager or Program Director. Follow-up the next day. Just keep on following up until you are able to speak to someone. But make sure to spread your phone calls apart. You don't wanna harass these people. Always be professional.

FYI:
- On Klite Manila, it took 2 months before they played Trees. I was interviewed 3 times before they added it on their playlist. I didn't have an orginal CD to give them until first week of March. I had to wait until someone sent me a CD. As soon as I got more CD's, I had the guys interviewed. I also started giving away prizes and coordinated the promos when the guys were being interviewed.
- But I couldn't do any of the additional promo stuff until the song was on the playlist. That is the goal. Get a song on the playlist first. You need a lot of drive, patience, diligence, organization, coordination, and perseverance to do this. If you are up for the challenge, you can make anything happen.
- It took 3 interviews that I personally did for the band with Y101 Cebu before I could get MCLH on. Again, I was waiting for the CD. Once a friend of mine sent me an original CD, they added Trees on the playlist. This was end of February.
- It took me 3 weeks before I could get NU107 Rock to add a song from MCLH new CD. Finally, they picked Casualty. I had to keep on following up. I think this was sometime end of April.
- It took over a month to get Jam 88.3FM to add MCLH. It was hard to get a hold of the program director. Eventually, they decided on Clouds. But, I kept on following up until this happened. They added Clouds 1st or 2nd week of May.
- I'm still working on getting 3 stations to add MCLH. Some of the managers and program directors can be nasty. Be prepared for that. However, don't let them psyche you out. It's nothing personal.
- It also helps to makes notes of what you've accomplished so you know your progress. I have a "Comments" column on my excel sheet.
- I don't know if they will interview a "fan" on US, Canadian, or other Asian radio stations. I guess you could try. I'm just lucky they were willing to interview me here in the Philippines.
- Now that I've got 4 stations to play MCLH songs, I'm able to go back there and hold contests and other types of promotions.
I HOPE THIS HELPS.
